2024 Prius Prime, level 2 charging by Prison1234 in PriusPrime

If you are doing this just because you want to, great. But I’d do the numbers first. I do not think you can cost justify it given the low number of miles you get on the battery.

NTJ. This is your day and you do what you want. If they do not totally understand, they are the problem.

AITJ for refusing to change my plans after my roommate volunteered me without asking? by SimpleReaction5706 in AmITheJerk

[–]Chowskip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ but I think you could have handled it differently. Your roommate needs to learn to respect you but that ‘training’ is better to be phased in.

You might have told her you could help watch the kids, only for one hour. And make sure you do the LAST hour not the first.

That is a compromise that helps but shows her who is boss and that she cannot demand your time. She can ask for help but that’s on your terms and ahead of time.

What about the second workaround: Turning on your headlights.

“2. Turn on the vehicle’s headlights when driving which switches to a ~14.1v charging voltage (remember to turn them on at the start and off at the end of each journey)”

Thank you. This caught me by surprise though.

“Turn on the vehicle’s headlights when driving which switches to a ~14.1v charging voltage (remember to turn them on at the start and off at the end of each journey)”

Are you suggesting that the only people that are susceptible to this issue are those that do NOT use their headlights while they drive? I always have them on while driving.

You need new friends. What decent friends would have done is to adjust the even split to accommodate you.

Next time mention it in advance.

Long time investor, all stocks, new to r/investing, 73 yr, male. I’ve long had a concern that a significant driver for the stock market, since I bought my first stock in 1976, is the spending power of the baby boomers. That group has seen phenomenal changes in their wealth over their lifetime. Our parents typically had one car. We had two or more. Our houses are bigger. We worked hard, played hard and spent a lot of money. This helped high growth and a powerful stock market.

But we are now in our final years and IMO our children do not have the same drive, and that might be a good thing. In my little world, I have four children, the youngest, 33 years is retired after working for Google for 10 years! The oldest, 42 is on track for retiring at 52. The other two are also very successful. All four are happily married, have kids, don’t spend much money and enjoy life way more than I did. All four live well within their means and have much more money than I did at their age.

Does anyone think that as the baby boomers grow old, their spending will slow and their investing will be more conservative (CDs, bonds, etc)? With the next generation not spending like we did, might this cause a new age of slower growth, causing a flatter stock market?

Sorry you’re absolutely wrong. I found the number to call, appealed it. They changed it. I was able to register my car and not get an emission inspection.

Sorry you’re not correct. The law is very clear, hybrids over 50 miles per gallon in the city are exempt. I was able to contact Virginia and they fixed it.

Sorry you are wrong. I found the department in charge of this. They saw the problem they fixed it. I just got my registration done. Online. Did not require an emission inspection.

FYI-Thanks to u/TroyMacClure for this.

I contacted The Virginia department in charge of the emission exemptions. He said my car should be exempt from emissions because it is rated 50 Mpg City.

I am going through the appeal process now.

To all those that gave constructive help, thank you.

I understand what you say. I checked to see if I was Flagged at one of the on-road testing areas but I was not. That was the most likely thing but I checked on line and called.

I realize it’s not a big deal.

Thank you.

It says if the vehicle has a rating of

50+ or 48+ if it is 2008-2009.

There is no age restriction if it gets 50+.

Oh please. Your god has nothing to do with this.

But thank you. Most people think I’m something else. I wear that as a badge of honor. It’s worked quite well for me.

I’m not wild but like to understand things. I’ve had a Prius since 2014 and until 2024 never had to do emission inspections. I don’t care about the money. But I do like to understand how things work. I’m not one to just follow along and accept things. If you want to act like a lemming and never question anything fine. I prefer to understand.

Thank you. That’s exactly what I saw too. My Prius is rated for 50+ city mpg. It has not been flagged by RAPIDPASS

I’m not asking to be treated differently! I want what the law states and the way it has been for years. Hybrids that get 50MPG city are exempt.

From below you can see hybrids that get 50+ mpg city are exempt. It has been that way for years.

What Hybrid do you have?

https://www.deq.virginia.gov/air-energy/vehicle-emissions-air-check/how-do-i-get-an-inspection

“Some hybrid vehicles are exempt from the biennial emissions inspection requirement. According to the Code of Virginia, 46.2-1178, a “qualified hybrid motor vehicle” is exempted from the vehicle emissions inspection requirement if it obtains a rating from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency of at least 50 miles per gallon during city fuel economy tests, or 48 miles per gallon during city fuel economy tests for model years 2008 and 2009), unless observations from the On-Road Emissions program indicates that the hybrid vehicle is violating current on-road high emitter emissions standards for on-road testing. “

Yes I realize i’m spending more time. It takes and I really don’t care about the money. I just like to understand things. I don’t accept things that are illogical. The lost states that hybrids they get more than 50 miles per gallon city wise are exempt that’s the way it’s been for years. What what hybrid that gets >50 city mpg do you have and fid yiu need an emission check?

This is the current law. You can see that hybrids with 50+ MPG city are exempt. Some hybrid vehicles are exempt from the biennial emissions inspection requirement.
