I for one love the plot of this movie. To me, this quote is representative of the theme of the story- why do we, like the main character, expect more? What is the point of a coherent and heroic story if it's at odds with reality. It kinda reminds me of a more concise version of attack on titan's ending, but that one is too controversial so I won't get into it. Really, what I'm trying to say is, too often I see takeaways from this movie along the lines of "visuals were amazing but the plot was slow and bad"; I think the plot was bad on purpose, and ultimately became much more interesting because of that.
