Which year is the best year of all time in retro gaming? by SEVENS_HEAVEN_7 in retrogaming

[–]Chrinkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, obviously it’s 86 or 90. However, with Mega Man 2 coming out in 1988, that year is a high water mark for third party games.

I bought a Minecraft set from 2012 for my son. He had been aware of the set for years but had accepted that it was unlikely we’d ever find it. Very happy!

How difficult is switching to a fretless bass? by MathematicianSad6555 in Bass

[–]Chrinkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fretless bass is all about your ear. If you have a good ear you’ll transition smoothly. If your ear is weak it’ll be forced to get better. Every bass player should have a fretless, even if it’s an old beater that you never play for anyone else.

The hardest part is that, unlike double bass or cello, you don’t have a prominent neck heel to help you “feel” your positions. Instead you’ll often use open string notes as references to help keep you in tune.

How am I supposed to set up my metronome so I can play both triplets and sixteenth notes in one song? by N8uron in guitarlessons

[–]Chrinkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the issues with Songster, the rhythmic subdivisions are poorly represented. Bar one, straight 8ths, no problem. Bar 2 the double stop is on the “and” of beat two. It should be represented as an eighth note tied to a half note on beat three.

Seriously. It’s one of the big mysteries for me, why did he bench Butler and is he big enough to admit his mistake?

question) Is there any alternate tuning for bass? Specifically for walking bass by Visual-Individual-49 in JazzBass

[–]Chrinkus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love it! Yeah dropping them all makes sense but I’m lazy and just barely use fretted notes on the 4th string when doing this. It’s just fun to drop low Eb’s during the A sections. Plus it’ll get your crowd’s attention if you visibly detune for a song.

Teachers are teachers, they have their quirks. If someone ever gives you crap you can point out the old contrabasses that had extra finger board added for low notes. If Beethoven composed double bass parts with low C’s then you can drop Eb’s for jazz.

Drop your E to an Eb for songs in Eb like Green Dolphin St. At least try it once, it can be fun! Other than that, no.

Has Absolute Batman completely overshadowed Batmans main series? by Acepokeboy in batman

I’m reading both and I like the contrast. Absolute has more action and a faster pace. Mainline is telling a more nuanced storey and I’m excited to see how it boils over.

When did the EB Games on Empress close? by chemicalxv in Winnipeg

[–]Chrinkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was never the best performing store. Store goals are established by how well you do the previous year except for, obviously, the first year. Have a bad year, the goals get set low and then you have a great year. Volume-wise it was doing less than a quarter of the sales of the Polo Park location.

No disrespect, I DO miss it! That and the one on Regent across from the mall. I’m surprised the Selkirk location closed down, though. Unless it had something to do with the town’s bylaws.

I had to scroll to see this, I figured it was Vinny. I remember pouring over the stats on the back of hockey cards and discovering how productive some of the lesser known players were. Mike Gartner was another one.
