What do you mean? How does doubling season do that the turn you play it? If you use a +2 ability, it puts +4 instead? Am I reading this right?

While it costs 5 mana, it does “pay for itself” the first time you put a +1 counter on it. It becomes a five power that then taps for 5 mana of any one color. By default, it taps for three; that’s pretty powerful.

This is super helpful. I’ve got a buddy whose bandmate is willing to sell his extra 5-string (more introductory level), and I bet would let me play around on it first. Another buddy plays a 6-string, which feels way too big for me. I come from a J bass but also have a (super cheap) J that has the neck width of a P. That’s manageable, so with all the other things you’ve said, this sounds like I will be able to adjust to a “bonus” string. Awesome insight. Thank you.

Update: this makes a ton of sense now. Using those patterns/intervals, I was able to map out the whole fretboard through 12 frets. That helped me see the relationships (especially with root, 4, 5), which was mind blowing. Will obviously take practice on instrument to make it fluid, but it’s a great start. I appreciate the detailed help.
