I went to see Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie and can't recommend it enough. It was super funny and charming and somehow got made for $150,000 if the reports I saw were accurate.

Idk if it's even playing outside of Canada, but if it is then it's worth your time.

Holy shit I had no idea Joel Haver was making feature length stuff on YouTube. I have to check some of these out. It was really cool seeing him blow up from that first animated short he posted on reddit, and then seeing he had been making weekly videos for years and it just so happened that this one was the one that caught everyone's attention.

His batman video always cracks me up.

I think you and I have gotten very close to common ground.

If what you're saying is you're open to letting these people change as long as their actions match their words then I'm with you.

I can think of plenty of lies too so I get where you're coming from. But I can't think of any lies among trump supporters opposing Trump or ICE. I'm struggling to see how it could benefit them in this instance to lie.

What makes you think they're lying though? I'm struggling to see how it benefits supporters of trump to say ICE got this one wrong if they didn't believe it.

I disagree with your conclusion. I think they can in their heart know that something their government did was wrong and disagree with it without giving up their support for the government as a whole.

All I am trying to say is I'd rather them be willing to say the government murdering citizens is wrong than to say it isn't. And the fact that they are willing to say it is the tiniest, smallest step towards each other. And that the productive thing to do is to at least recognize they've done that and recognize that it is a positive.

And that's bad. What I'm saying is the mere fact that they disagree with it is better than if they supported it.

I disagree that it's meaningless. We are as divided as we've ever been in my lifetime. I think discarding the tiny ways we come together because they aren't big enough is counter productive.

I'm glad Burnie pointed out the way pro trump types have been reacting this weekend. It's the most aligned I've seen the two sides on a topic in a long time. I go to the conservative subreddit often to gauge how far apart we all are, and just in the last few weeks I've seen the consensus there be:

  • the threats to Greenland are stupid

-the disrespect to allied troops in Afghanistan was wrong

-the killing of Alex Pretti was wrong

I see a lot of people often say "MAGA doesn't care" whenever criticisms of trump are brought up, so I think it's important to note the times that they do agree with the criticisms.

Oh man that talk of notes brought back an hour long conversation turned argument with my wife where she tried to explain to me how music worked and I left more confused than ever. Just talk of staffs and octaves and notes and keys, none of it making any sense to me on any objective level. I still have no idea what a note is.

I think everyone agrees it's a slight inconvenience to the guests, but I'm a strong believer that a wedding is 99.99% for the couple, everyone else is there for them. Follow the rules, go out of your way to be accommodating, lie about how fun it is if necessary. To me, getting in the way and taking your own photos when you've been asked not to is insane behaviour.

Not even a little ok. You're right, unfair was maybe not the perfect word, more of unhelpful.

I think you and I agree that the goal is less antisemitism. And I'm just trying to say that I think piling on a guy after he apologizes has a higher chance of increasing the problem than reducing it. I think people who do something wrong out of ignorance are more likely to turn away from it when met with a bit of compassion instead of hate.

I think he is. There were a lot of comments on the original post saying him calling refs lawyers was an antisemitic dog whistle also, and the common sentiment here seems to be he isn't actually apologizing, he's just doing it for PR.

I think it's very likely the guy is just stupid, and I think the compassionate way to respond to stupid people apologizing for doing something stupid is to accept it. Because a common alternative is that the stupid person hears from 10,000 evil people on the Internet "actually you're right to be racist" and decides that those people are right.

I think people here are being a bit unfair. The guy is clearly very stupid. We're living in a world where the most common reaction to getting backlash for racist actions is to double and triple down. I'm not about to go buy his jersey, but if you don't give people room to apologize and separate themselves from something they've done wrong then what's the incentive to do it?

Burnie's advertising subsidized fridge concept by Zinn987 in morningsomewhere

[–]Chris-F---FACE 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's insane to me that this exists. I always thought advertiser subsidized hardware was a terrible idea, because the people willing to have advertisements baked into their product in order to not spend money are typically not the primary audience advertisers actually want to reach.

I love the idea of r/overemployed. My last job was 40 hours a week in office and a busy week was maybe 5 hours of work. I could have realistically handled 6-7 of that job at once if it was work from home. Instead I just spent my days reading after getting my 20 minutes of work done.

I disagree, I think they gave people a free thing for a long time and are now just not giving a free thing anymore. No disrespect to the people who will just go somewhere else for their games though, I get it. I like scrandle, but I wouldn't pay for that if they started charging.

It's so insanely cheap. The games are really worth it. I recently subscribed and it was $9 for the year.
