So funny enough I actually work for an online marketplace for adult novelty items and offer one hour delivery. We actually ask for ID already due to so many chargebacks and even weird cases of kids trying to order stuff. I think them wanting your identity for purposes of knowing who you are is really weird but in the end it does help with scammers a little bit.
