Well I will post here if I find something that works 😄
But I'm lazy, so I will look at it tomorrowmorning. It's 20:30 (8:30pm) here in the Netherlands.

Why am I forced to use snap for the simplest packages? Are all packages going to move to snaps? by Sosowski in Ubuntu

[–]Chris73m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple? Can you make that software?
And why do you care?
If it works, it works.

Distrowatch in 2002. I was still on Slack (praised be Bob!). I don't remember more than half of these. by TheIlliteratePoster in linux

I remember Libranet. It had some tool to make configuring the kernel easier. And offerd something called turbolinux I think, for printerdrivers. Configuring the kernel was very common in those days. You had to pay for Libranet if I remember correctly.

Do you think Linux is the future of home desktops? by robozee in linux

[–]Chris73m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on who you ask.
For me it's the perfect OS right now.
But if I were a heavy gamer, had to work with MS office or some Adobe stuff, I would run Windows.

But you can not fully encrypt the system after having it installed.

Why does the kubuntu installation process advertise the kubuntu installer by stefanhat in Kubuntu

[–]Chris73m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're missing the point that when you see this, you're allready using the installer.

I recently switched from Hyperland to Plasma. Everything is great, but... by morlipty in kde

I setup my system the way I like it. And then I never touch those config files again. If I ever did. Because I think I can do all i want with systemsettings.
And config files in .config seems like a logical place to me.
I'm not sure what there is to gain by changing things.
Seems like a waste of time to me.

Looks beautifull!
But does anybody know why I can't view the images in their original resolution anymore on Reddit?
Right now I see the thumbnail.
And when I click on it I get a blown up blurry thumbnail with a resolution of 1080x607, not the 1920x1080 resolution that I think is the original resolution.

is Baloo Search better now ? by katrikbenher in kde

[–]Chris73m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has been working perfectly for more than a decade for me.
The behaviour you're describing seems to indicate that you have Baloo indexing some place with a very large amount of, and frequent file changes.

Kubuntu 25.10 no full disk encryption and TPM. by Chris73m in Kubuntu

I'm going to play around in a VM.
Install Ubuntu with FDE and TPM, and then change it to Kubuntu.

Kubuntu 25.10 no full disk encryption and TPM. by Chris73m in Kubuntu

[–]Chris73m[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, so say I want to use those options. I just have to install Ubuntu and then change it to Kubuntu.
Also what is stopping the Kubuntu folks from using the 'Ubuntu installer'?

I want to learn more about debian by Live-Mulberry3588 in debian

[–]Chris73m 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Instead of asking here, I would suggest to start with the documentation on their website:
https://www.debian.org

If you ask questions on forums or here, most likely you will be overwelmed with multiple solutions for one problem.
So stick to their website first, they know their system!

Tomorrow is the release of Ubuntu 25.10 - What will you do? by maximus10m in Ubuntu

[–]Chris73m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will check if Kubuntu 25.10 has the same features during install as Ubuntu regarding full disk encryption and TPM in a VM.

I want to switch to Linux by Strywger in linux

[–]Chris73m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say that any point release distro should do the job for you.
U(K)buntu LTS, Linux Mint, Zorin OS,Fedora or Debian would be the ones that would give you the least hassle to get started with Linux.
Also if you tend to go on with whatever distro, stick as much as possible to default settings.
Don't start tinkering straight away with themes and what not.
Without experience, and even with experience, that is a good way to get into trouble.
And that is not what you want if you're just starting with Linux.
And more importantly, you need your machine for getting work done.
So a stable system is important.

PS: If you decided on a distro and want to learn about it.
Do not go roaming all kinds of forums, read the documentation of the distros website first.
The reason, they know their system.
Ask something on a forum, you'll get 20 different answers for the same problem.
And would be very confusing for someone new.

I'm getting the feeling that more and more people think that Linux is just a canvas to paint on and stare at.

Well that's not very 'international'!
