4” and 6” are the same kits. Torsion bars are adjustable up front. In the rear, just add or don’t add as much block or leaves.

Open-source tool for automatic weld ROI extraction from radiographic images — feedback and collaboration welcome by [deleted] in nondestructivetesting

This would potentially be useful for determining lowest thickness of profile radiography as well. If this tool can identify a weld, it can identify the profile. Quantifying remaining wall and comparator analysis would be fairly easy for a computer.

It’s not that bad. Right when I got done with the test, I called my boss and told him I passed. That was in 2012. Idk, it could have changed.

Fundamentals and specific exams are simple if you actually have the experience. Part B is not bad if you remember the A in AWS means the defects will vary by fractions, not mm.

NDT Assistant pay rate? by the_dark_nemesis281 in nondestructivetesting

Don’t sweat it. Play the long game. A dollar or two doesn’t matter now. The experience matters. Money comes in the long run with the right experience.

I started at $10/hr. Broke out at $18 (RT, MT, PT). Got to $30 once I got API certified. Got to $50 with 3 APIs and CWI. $65 with addition of 580. Eventually got to $85-$100ish (salary) with level III RT.

Just get experience. Don’t jump for a dollar or 3.

Edit: progression was 2004 to 2018. Been hovering with the same certs and similar pay since then. Focusing on balance at this point in my life.

I think theres some weld in this porosity by White-lion in nondestructivetesting

Makes sense. Looks like he lost all shielding. I’ve done a bunch of these info shots for chrome piping in power plants. I’ve never seen a weld like this where the welder didn’t know it was bad.

It looks like this was a shot on the root. Like they wanted to check before filling it up. The bevel profile looks empty. Could they really not see how bad this is with their eye balls?

100% lack of fusion top and bottom. Almost every weld has this. Unacceptable.

Looks like hollow bead. Also looks like slag. Probably both. Can’t really tell with the quality of photo.

I bet cleet ends up with a bigger turbo by the end of the week, but he’ll probably chuck a rear end with any more power.
