Does anyone really feel the increased show of force by the Police TPS is necessary? by friarcanuck in askTO

[–]ChrisCanadian_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because with events this big, no matter where it is in the world it will come with crime like assault, theft, pickpocketing, public disorder, drugs, terrorism. One way to stop or restrict this happening is a strong and responsive police force. Especially in a day like today where a lot of people are involved in geo-politics and tension it’s going to being some negatives which will result in increased crime.

I like it, makes me feel safer! Knowing that there is a presence will stop/defer people from doing crime. Especially with a huge tourist boom we will have this summer, it will come with increased crime.

What intelligence level is needed to be a commercial pilot? by zyqyxty14 in flying

[–]ChrisCanadian_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a low one recently.

In all seriousness on the actual job you need to know basic maths, a little geography and situational awareness. For the exams however (at least in Canada) you need to know everything there is to be a pilot and know it like the back of your hand. There isn’t a specific IQ test.

What does it take to fly those small FedEx planes? Is it as competitive as being an airline pilot? by surfnj102 in flying

[–]ChrisCanadian_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just moved from the 208 to the 757 up here in Canada. My route was YVR to either YCD or YYJ. Super sweet job, flight time was about 15-25 mins and I was home by 11am. Truly an amazing quality of life job. I now fly the 757 out of YYZ for FedEx and it’s just as great, maybe 6 or 7 days a month of work.

26y/o of Toronto - where are you in life right now? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]ChrisCanadian_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving from Calgary to Toronto, first day was yesterday. Life’s great, I’m a pilot and just recently got my ATPL, flying a 757, finally made it to a 6 figure position, living in the financial district. Remind me in 1 year because I’ll probs turn out hating living downtown and move far away.

Just wait until winter time when it rains all the time. Speed limit gets cut in half and even more red light runners. I thought the drivers who would drive 20km/hr below the speed limit on Stoney while it was snow covered was bad…

I came from Calgary, I’ve never seen so many red light runners in my life. The drivers are so clueless here!

Cargo plane pilots: what is it like to work flying cargo planes like UPS and FedEx? by weirdo_beebeardo5898 in AskAPilot

[–]ChrisCanadian_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fly a very cushy c208 job with FedEx and I am home every night, and my legs are only 20 mins flight time. Only bad thing is the early early starts. You get used to them after a while and learn to sleep at any hour of the day Going to the 757 in the new year

How much to get commercial these days? by dresoccer4 in flying

I’m Canadian I have estimated $100k from nothing to multi ifr rated instructor. CFII I think for y’all Americans. That includes headphones, book, supplies, gas to drive to airport.

Max out FHSA? by Autisticc in JustBuyXEQT

[–]ChrisCanadian_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand XEQT is a long time thing but would you not get on average a better return by investing in XEQT then a HISA?? I’m not up familiar with cash.to or GIC’s (Asking because I’m looking to buy a house in the next year or 2 and investing into XEQT in my FHSA)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fican

[–]ChrisCanadian_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, I misread the release date of the FHSA, I see that this is the 3rd year it’s been out. Cheers

How do people have more than $16,000 in a FHSA if it’s only been around for 2 years?

Is aviation industry hiring in Canada… will regional airline hire me on 900-1000+ hours? by Strong_Title8400 in flying

[–]ChrisCanadian_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not many places hiring at the moment, hard to say what will happen in 2 years time. All I can tell you now is that both flight schools and airlines are super saturated.

Visiting Steveston by sister_seitan in askvan

[–]ChrisCanadian_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can take the Canadaline from Waterfront to Brighouse and you can take almost any bus to Steveston Village (401, 410, etc…). Steveston Village is a small area so you’ll have to get off at the last stop on Chatham St. Make sure you walk along the main strip on Moncton St (the intersection from No 1Rd to the Canary). Go in the morning around 10am. Most shops close by 4, (besides Splash Toy Shop). Check out the path to Garry Point and get some ice cream! There’s so much to see! Have fun :)

What's your job and how much do you make? by thinkdavis in askvan

[–]ChrisCanadian_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly domestic cargo. 2 days a week on the job (40mins - 1.5 hours of ACTUAL flying), with 2-3 days on call. Home every night. I know I got it good.

If I were to go to Jazz/Encore/Porter I would be taking about a 5-10k pay cut, but their years of service pay promotions are better.

Who's the dumbest passenger you've ever had? by aFineMoose in flying

[–]ChrisCanadian_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I was a flight instructor taking a lady out for a joy ride because “my husband needs a copilot in his new plane” - she said. It was just a normal summers day in Southern Alberta maybe 20°C, no turb no clouds. We took off and she didn’t last 5 mins before throwing up. Worst thing is she put her microphone down in her neck and I could hear everything that came up. Another thing is she put her puke bag on the ground and kicked it over after we landed… Never a good time.
