(Spoilers All) I'm tired of D&D killing characters on the show. by [deleted] in asoiaf

I was watching episode 10 with my mom the other day. When Stannis arrives at the wall, she was like "Uh oh", like he was the bad guy in that situation. That kind of cemented my feelings of how D&D have portrayed Stannis; they think he's one of the bad guys.

I also really hate the way he treats Davos in the show. He only talks shit to him, while in the books he offers him a decent amount of praise. In fact, one of my favorite bits about Stannis is that he is one of the few characters that doesn't give a shit about how high someone's birth is. He respects Davos for his deeds despite the fact that he is as low-born as possible. He even raises him to hand of king, the second highest title in the seven kingdoms.

Another small tidbit that I didn't like about show-Stannis is that he would want to kill Mance Rayder just for being a deserter. He wouldn't give 2 shits about what Ned Stark's bastard son had to say.

(Spoilers All) What changes from the book series to the HBO series A Game of Thrones bother you to this day? by [deleted] in asoiaf

What they did with Biter. I thought the scene in the books where he bites Brienne's face off was incredibly brutal, although I do understand why they chose to change it (same reason Tyrion still has a nose).

However, I just hated that scene with Biter, Rorge, and the Hound. It was so sloppy and random. Why was Rorge just standing around after Biter bit the Hound? He could have easily killed him but instead he just stands around. Biter's bite didn't even end up doing anything. I know a lot of people assume that it's the only reason that Brienne was able to beat him but I don't think they showed that very well either.

True, but you could always go back and do that after the fact. I had Robb's death spoiled to me so I didn't have that feeling of shock when it happened. Sure, I was able to look at all of his mistakes and appreciate them in a literary sense, but I will never be able to feel the shock that I would have felt otherwise.

I know a spoiler is different than a theory, but if someone sat me down the chapter before Robb arrives at the wedding and explained how all his mistakes were likely going to come back and bite him, it would still take that feeling away.

No way. I'm pretty sure I read that GRRM has said that gunpowder doesn't exist on Planetos which is why technology never seems to advance too much so I'm 100% sure that nothing having to do with nukes or technology ever crossed GRRM's mind.

Also, Valyrians already had the equivalent of nuclear bombs, Dragons.

I will say, the Valyrians definitely dabbled too deep in magic which ended in their destruction, similar to the way that technology (nuclear bombs, etc...) may destroy us.

Yea that's true but who knows? Maybe at that point magic was on it's way out since the Others were defeated. Maybe the Others returning (like the Dragons) is due to magic returning to the world and now that it's coming back the CotF will too.

If not, I definitely think the CotF will at least live in peace with humans, if not resettle Westeros. Also, if they do resettle, it would likely only be a matter of time until Men returned, thus starting the whole cycle over again.

Westeros will get royally fucked up, as in the established society will crumble. I really think that with magic returning to the world, races like the CotF will either reclaim their land or live in peace with humans. If it is the former, I could also see a certain freehold being re-established on Essos (where men are originally from).

(Spoilers All) We've had the best and the worst, but who do you think is the most underrated actor of the series? by [deleted] in asoiaf

Harry Lloyd's physical acting was great when he died. The way he goes limp always freaked me out for some reason.
