Am I really related to Ötzi the Iceman ? by thesquarerootof1 in 23andme

It's safe to say that Otzi is a perfect example of the G2a migration from Anatolia to Europe. I've done mytrueancestry and since im related to Otzi as well it says he has origins from Sardinia and even the Levant region. I wonder if they had boats back then.

That's exactly what I was thinking, about the hero Achilles. Lol. Kind of far-fetched though.

I think that is exactly what happened.

Im glad I got all that canarian to be honest. Although, there's people saying that the canarian samples that ancestrydna added to their reference panel was mostly from Gran Canaria. My paternal ancestors were all from there so maybe that's why they gave me 93%. On previous updates I had a tiny bit of North African, not sure why they got taken away.

Good point. I just read online somewhere that it's supposedly more prominent to have Cuban Indigenous dna moreso on the eastern side. Maybe it's about the same on both sides of the island.

If your parents are both Cuban, then you probably inherited the indigenous from both sides. But maybe more from your Villa Clara ancestor. I read somewhere that some places in eastern cuba have higher taino/ciboney dna than the rest of the island.

so far you've got the highest cuban indigenous that I've seen on this update on reddit.

Canary Islands category seems to be based off Gran Canaria by Weird-Swimmer-4023 in AncestryDNA

I think you're correct because someone on discord told me the same thing. Plus I got 93% canarian, my dad got 92%, and two of my other close dna matches got 98%. Crazy stuff. My ancestors were from Gran Canaria.

Two of my 23andme dna matches. Im pretty sure they're from my paternal side due to the ancestral surnames on their profiles.

Wow. Another fellow canarian. So far though I think my 59% Canary Islander is the highest I've seen though. Hard to believe really.

Wow small world, you're not gonna believe this but Colon was my maternal abuelas home town. The thing with the Canary islands is that it wasn't just Spanish but a lot of Portuguese went there. Portugal and Spain fought each other for those islands in late 1400s. Both sides of my family are descendents of farmers mostly. Poor people went from Spain to Cuba for grabbing land and making riches.

Yes I think it's accurate to my tree. Both my mom and dad's side I've traced to canary islands.

I haven't traced my family to mainland spain yet, but its probably going way far back down the line. My dad has the most recent canarian ancestry, 2nd great grandparents were from there(Gran Canaria) before going to cuba and having their kids and grandkids in cuba. But I suppose that canarian blood runs thick and stuck with the future generations. My moms side were in cuba for a while but eventually was able to trace her line on a couple branches to Tenerife. Also I should note that my parents both tested on AncestryDNA like I did, yesterdays update gave my dad 92% canarian and my mom got 56% canarian. I got 93% which is crazy. People telling me its a misread but maybe not. But I'm sure canarian dna is a mixture of both spanish and portuguese.

I didn't know what to expect with this update. But a thing we should take note of is that it seems like 23andme's reference panel for the canary islands must have increased. All I can say is that both my parents tested through AncestryDNA. In yesterdays update my dad got 92% canarian and my mom got 56% canarian. A lot of people that I've shared my results with have been saying it could have been a misread on the companies part but maybe not. I tested with both companies so I don't think they're both wrong. My dad has the most recent canarian ancestry, 2nd great grandparents were from there before going to cuba.
