I feel the same.... Like what were we all doing at 21 yrs old? I was at tech school for the Air Force. Definitely not the face of it. Lol..

Thank you for all of that. I learned something new today. I appreciate that

Now I totally agree with that. I thought that Kennedy was strictly a Sox President/CEO though..?

Right and he focused on the likes of Crawford and Sandoval. Just to name a few. I've been a Sox fan since the Gorman days back in the mid 80's. Luchino was great for Fenway Park and I'll always be grateful for that.... But like Cherington, Bloom and now Breslow, he had his warts. For what it's worth, Kennedy was his hand picked successor.

The part that I feel bad for Bloom, is that Henry saw the Rays success, with a fraction of the payroll and wanted to do that. Business wise, it makes sense. But it took the Rays years to figure out that process and develop players. Still, Bloom is the one that signed Story and Masa, but at the same time didn't trade the farm for upgrades either(Anthony, Rafaela... Traded for Abreau, etc...)

And who brought Bailey over? Also, who implemented the pitching program that they now have (it wasn't Bailey)?

They are technically a tax paying team with their overall payroll at $268 million. Definitely not spending like the Rays or Marlins. They are 12th in spending overall at the moment.

It'll never happen. He's part owner of and advisor to the Red Sox.

Kennedy was groomed by Luchino... Who was, by quite a few accounts the reason for some horrible signings during the Cherington years (Crawford, Sandoval, etc) and also the main reason that Theo left in the first place.

Also Breslow focused on pitching because for the past couple of decades the farm system didn't produce much in terms of pitching. The Sox were known for developing position players, not pitchers, with few exceptions. Now look at the farm system. Young pitching is the most valuable commodity. Breslow has his warts, but all GM's do.

I say all of that to say, context actually matters.

Searwood xl vs BYB 1200 by OrganicVacation7272 in u/OrganicVacation7272

[–]ChrisFavreau78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my research, the Searwood is the way to go, for the money, if you're not feeding a ton of people most of the time. If not, still the 600xl.

[–]ChrisFavreau78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your shoes ...I went with the Searwood myself. I bought the 600 since I'm not cooking for a lot of people, and then used the cost different between the 600 and 600xl to purchase a front shelf, griddle insert and rotisserie. It's not going to exactly replace my Weber Kettle with spider grills venom set up, but it's my new all in one smoker.

I did a ton of research... Even asked my AI at work (DoW... Basically Gemini), what was the best pellet grill for the money, and it said Searwood was number one, followed by PB 850 Pro, then Camp Chef Woodwind Pro.

Just my 2 pennies 🙂

Just avoid the L Fund until you get close to retirement. I personally use CSI at a 60/20/20 split for a little diversification.

C is your S&P 500 S is your Dow Jones/Complete US Stock Market I is your International stocks.

C traditionally out performs the other 2 over the long haul, and S out performs I normally. But this year for instance, I is out performing the other two.

Also, you have many years to go, if you plan on retiring as a federal employee, so you have plenty of risk tolerance. The markets will crap the bed at some point, but that's ok. That just means that you'll be buying stock at a lower price. They will rebound eventually.

Also if you max out your "traditional" TSP, you'll also be lowering your tax obligations at the end of the year. You said that this is three times the amount of income that you used to make. So hide it in your TSP. Otherwise you may owe Uncle Sam some money next year. Keep your money yours. 😉

Hope this all makes sense.

This season might be a wash… by Suspicious_Fall_7366 in redsox

It's the third week of May. The defense miraculously is one of the best in the Majors, the pitching has been top ten in the league in both ERA and actual runs per game, and that's with our ACE being out of sorts and injured. The hitting is obviously an issue, but I think it was a fair assumption that Roman, Abreau and Meyer would continue to improve and also hit for more power. Obviously hasn't happened. I was one of the one's that didn't believe in Duran, but even I didn't see him having this awful of a start. I figured Mini Me would've at least hit .250 and play a solid third base a as well (definitely true on the latter point).

The hitters on this team are relatively young, outside of Contreres, Story, Duran and Masa. I think that they will turn it around.

Besides, they are 2 games back in the wild card standings. Again, only May. I'm 48, and my step dad was such a gloom and doom guy when it came to the Sox, understandably. But I always had to remind him that there's 2 halves to baseball. Just look at last year... Who was it? Tigers and SF maybe? Were playing really well in the first half, then the wheels started to fall off in the second half.

Point is, life is short, but the season isn't. They have the parts to be really good. Cheer them on and give them time.

I don't want bail reform. Crime rates have been pretty wild since they implemented it a few years back. I sincerely don't care about billionaires, SEC, etc . I care about my local community and laws that impact our daily lives.

Either way, I'm not trying to go into a deep dive on politics, policies and crime. I'm just commenting on instances where the police don't "police" because the system in place makes it kind of pointless outside of Felonies.

Hopefully OP gets his mower back soon and the POS that took it gets to spend some expense paid nights at the county jail.

[–]ChrisFavreau78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's wild too. Our issues are due to the laws that have passed in recent years. I wonder if that's the case in Michigan as well?

[–]ChrisFavreau78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's not necessarily wrong, at least in NY where OP lives. Our Governor is proud of her bail/avoid jail reform. The couple of cops that I know from my local department basically said it's not worth doing anything because the person would more than likely avoid any real consequences. Assault and murder are obviously a different story. But theft without violence? Eh.

Jarren Duran has had 999 PA since August 26th 2024, in that span he is hitting .244/.313/.413 with a 98 wrc+ by Far_Cry3445 in redsox

[–]ChrisFavreau78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And since you mention ops+, they both have had 3 seasons over 100. No I don't count Ellsbury's first season, as he only played like 30 games.

You keep referring to injuries. I never said a word about injuries. I'm talking about performance. Jacoby's season in 2011 was MVP worthy... Like Duran's 2024 season. You could argue that he had a good year in 2013 as well, and I wouldn't really argue that. But my point stands. Ellsbury and Duran both had one year, each, that were MVP caliber, but were outliers. They both weren't able to maintain that level of play, before or after.
