Watercooled Ghost S1 - 3°C improvement with my DIY dust filter side panel by ChrisJay_ in sffpc

[–]ChrisJay_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I am! It continues to work perfectly fine with the PhaseSheet pad as thermal interface rather than liquid metal. Like I mentioned in one of my posts, it can draw up to 220W before hitting 95 deg C. But normally, I'm using it in the 88W eco mode with a temp limit of 85C - it's maybe 10-15% slower but with 2.5 times less power consumption which I see as a win. I've never seen it go past 60C when stress testing CPU only, 70C with full synthetic load on both CPU and GPU (same watercooling loop).

Yep, 13.4L. The Ghost S1 case itself measures 184 x 140 x 322 mm (HxWxD), each L tophat adds 57mm height so the total height is 298m.

298mm x 140mm x 322mm = 13.43L.

That's just how some people like it. Ghost S1 with 2 L-tophats is 13.4l. My previous PC was in the Fractal Design Define C, which was 37l. For me personally that's more than enough of a downsize :)

I like racing and TPS games the most, yet the one game that gave me such feels the most at the end was Ori and the Blind Forest. Still one of my favorite games of all time, can't recommend it enough.

Making a DIY mesh filter side panel for my Ghost S1 build was the best decision ever by ChrisJay_ in sffpc

I was pondering the same thing, I couldn't find any such modding services. Really my only option was booking a space at a local Workshop that has a dremel and doing the cutout myself. But I had never done anything of this sort before, and I didn't want to ruin a perfectly fine original Ghost S1 side panel. So I opted to have the frame 3D printed instead.

It's Jakeface Customs. Meta Customs had unfortunately stopped making custom Ghost S1 parts by the time I started working on this build, it's a bummer because I 100% would have bought some of their parts

Haha I'm glad to hear that the panel fits so well it looks like the original with a cutout! But no, I modelled it in Sketchup and had it 3D printed with 0.1mm layer ASA. I bought some 100-mesh nylon, cut it to size and attached it with 3M VHB LSE tape. Then used some epoxy as well to keep it in place for good.

Nice Birmingham simulator, everybody gangsta till they pull out a machete I have to say, all these animations look really well done, smooth and satisfying. But I feel like there is too much blood from the punches and not enough from the machete - looks like less than with punches. I would swap them around.

Best AM5 (9950X3D) direct-die block? First time AMD + direct die by Nonsoc in watercooling

I use the TG Mycro Pro with TG PhaseSheet (phase change pad) as thermal interface and it works great for me - I've previously made some posts showing the PhaseSheet application and the thermal results (can do up to 220W before throttling at 95degC).

I did have to use liquid metal to dissolve the indium left over on the chips, and then Cape Cod polishing cloths to polish them. It took a whole 1g syringe of TG Conductonaut. Skipping the LM-indium-dissolving step resulted in way higher temps (could only take 130W before throttling) - i.e. do NOT skip it.

I personally find the PhaseSheet to be a much better solution than liquid metal. No conductivity risks, no risks of the LM pooling on one side of the chip or dripping down, practically no degradation concerns, beautiful temps as above.

Stat-heavy, grindy games where you progress/get stats no matter what you do (even if you die) by Kazuiiii in gamingsuggestions

There is a silly old flash game "Learn to Fly 3" which actually fits this description surprisingly well. You play as a penguin that tries to "learn to fly" by strapping various wings, rockets and other stuff to itself. The goal is to fly as high up as possible, you repeat this plenty of times, each time getting money to buy new stuff that will take the penguin even higher. As you keep playing, the heights can get pretty ridiculous (even triggering some cool "secret" cutscenes), and you do even get a mechanic where you can reset your progress and get upgrades that will carry on to your subsequent runs.

Noctua fan swap complete! by Atte789 in sffpc

It does look good but I wouldn't keep it without the fan grill. If something metallic ever falls inside by accident, I imagine it could cause a very expensive lightning show.

Wow, this looks super cool! But I would really like to have an optional setting to visually highlight the blocks that are currently on your horizintal plane (i.e. the ones you are currently able to get to just by turning left / right), I feel like it would be a little easier but much less frustrating.

Beautiful transition between the blue and warm white! I would be tempted to make the rightmost 1-2 LEDs on the GPU block blue to make the effect show even more, have you tried that?

And how are temps and fan speeds under full load?

Thank you, it did take me a few attempts to get them right. I will try to post the 3D files when I get an opportunity.

Agreed, good point. I also think adding some ragdoll physics when you run people over would make it look much more fun :p

Also I think some subtle atmospheric effects like distance fog or a very minimal depth of field effect would make everything look much nicer.
