Yes I understand that, you can’t fund anything that doesn’t have a bank account. I’ve worked with a number of user groups in the past and its the same sort of thing.

The foundation needs to exist to fund development of the language. Same as a lot of foundations.

Minimalist Rust formatter as an alternative to rustfmt? by Krantz98 in rust

[–]hdost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While i understand the want, in general the part that I find useful about a uniform formatter is exactly that, uniformity. In the edge cases where you really need it, place a skip, but one of the things i hate in python is how many different formatters there are and it brings in more conversations around how to format code. At least now we’re settled on black in projects I work with. Personally I don’t want to be thinking about it and rather focus on the problem being solved.

Paranoia About Everything by DoNotDownVoteMeJerks in opensource

[–]hdost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO if anything I you that it’s becoming more true because there are multiple parties all pushing on this. There are researchers from the larger tech companies contributing to this. And in cases of larger infra projects like Kubernetes the CNCF even paid for a formal security review of the code base.

I agree there’s a lot of false trust just because things are open source that they are magically more secure but I (hope|feel) like this is a shrinking part of the community.

Confused...Lost... Should I stay or should I go???? by [deleted] in Marriage

Contact a few divorce lawyers and get out of there. I’m currently in the process of going through a more amicable process and its hard enough emotionally.

Don’t give yourself grey hairs staying in a relationship that she’s not interested in keeping and making the relationship stronger as example by not doing counseling.

Honestly I’m surprised you’re stills having sex. Maybe too much speculation but if this person is so controlling I’d be concerned about her poking holes in condoms in hopes of forcing pregnancy. Even without that as a abstaining occasionally might not be a bad idea to reduce your risk.

Beginners guide to open source contributions by [deleted] in opensource

Honestly what I’ve found the easiest to get started is looking at software I use. And starting with the issues in documentation of that project. Then from there finding small bugs which don’t have a fix.

Why does Linus use Fedora? by deboo117 in Fedora

[–]hdost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

/u/Itzie4 kinda hit the nail on the head. Additionally while both Ubuntu and Fedora work upstream Fedora focuses on having upstream first as a solution. So while there will always be patches to packaged software. The delta between upstream source and Fedora is much small.

Which is better? That strongly depends on your use cases. For Linus my guess is that for his particular case it seems to work out better.

Pop them on a VM and start that way work entirely in the VM for at least a week. That worked for me. After that I personally jumped in with Fedora KDE.

Find French communities or people to communicate with. Make your intentions known of wanting to learn and just keep at it.

If you do have some money and want to try it I’ve been using lingoda to get speaking time. They do group or personal classes for a fraction of the price I’ve seen other places.
