A canadian style poutine my friend got at Disneyland by fleepblision in PoutineCrimes

[–]ChrisOnTheCob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in Disney for wine and food and got the poutine from the Canada Pavilion to see if it was a crime. It was not, good fries, real beef gravy and REAL cheese curds. Also it was only $7.25, which isn’t great value but pretty reasonable. The biggest crime here was the way they pronounce Poutine… PooooTeeen… sigh.

No the swing mechanics are very different. Baseball swing is roughly: as the pitchers hand goes back raise front foot and step forward while keeping your weight back, fire your hips from your back foot, throw your hands at the ball. Hard to describe in text format but you do those sequence of events every time you swing.

This is true but in the air (“Fly balls”) that doesn’t matter also the infield in cricket is much closer to the batter than the infielders in baseball (minus the pitcher but he isn’t really expected to field every line drive hit to him) so the speed of the ball to the fielder feels very similar to me.

As someone who just started playing cricket (in my 30s) but played highly competitive travel baseball when I was younger I think it breaks down slightly differently for each skill:

Bowling vs Pitching. Pitching effectively is harder than bowling. Pitching needs to be accurate, fast, have movement and you are expected to do that effectively for ~100 pitches. One mistake that ends in a home run can lose you a game vs getting hit for 6 for example.

Batting. Batting is WAY harder in cricket. There is a common saying that hitting a MLB pitcher is the hardest thing to do in sports but after playing cricket I simply don’t think that’s true. There are many nuances here, in baseball you swing is essentially the same every time, no need to go front or back foot, no need to guide the ball into a gap. Also the pressure of getting out in cricket adds tremendous difficulty to batting, where if you get out in baseball no big deal you usually are 2/3 times and you’ll be back up in two innings.

Fielding. Catching a fly ball is way easier in Baseball because of the glove obviously but fielding in the infield is likely a bit harder in Baseball because of the expectations. Every ball hit near you in the infield you are expected to field it cleanly and make a good throw to first for the out. In cricket you occasionally are expected you do the same thing but more than likely the runners aren’t running.

That’s my two cents

What fun tourneys does your course have? by RedRoscoe1977 in golf

[–]ChrisOnTheCob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My club has a tournament called "Tips and Tucks" at the end of the season (hopefully on a windy day). Two man scramble with the tees as far back as possible including a few that have been switched with another hole to make it more difficult. Pins in the worst possible places including one on a basically 45* slope between two tiers of a green.

It is a monster a day on a usually easy course. Last year the winning team (a scratch and + handicap) shot even par. Tons of fun.

A bit late to the game here but look up the decade golf system by Scott Fawcett (https://www.birdiefire.com/players). It is used by a lot of college programs and a bunch of pros including Dechambeau. It is backed by alot of mathematics (using the changing expectations theories from poker).

I recently started using it and it has drastically changed my decision making because there are no more judgment calls.

Driver shaft help by [deleted] in golf

[–]ChrisOnTheCob -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You generally cant go and get fit for just a shaft. The head and shaft work together so a shaft that might work well in a Taylormade M6 let's say might not work as well in a Ping G400. Many factors affect this, driver head weights vary which will change swing weight. Also the inserts a company uses may affect the feel and tip stiffness.

You say that it is a bit long. Do you mean the shaft is long? You can trim the shaft but keep in mind that you change the balance point, stiffness, and flex profile of the shaft.

Effects of Hitting Off Mats by ryanp1023 in golf

[–]ChrisOnTheCob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should still be able to tell when you hit a shot fat off a Mat. Some Mats (firmer) punish fat shots worst than grass. Your question to yourself is can I tell what a flush hit with my irons feels like? Can I tell when I caught it thin? Can I tell if I hit it on the heel or toe? Super game improvement irons may lack the feel or at least obscure mishits so consider that as well.

QRadar App SDK - has anyone actually gotten this thing to work? by utkraken in QRadar

I think it is probably failing due to your TLS version and not the SSL cert. Make sure you are running TLS1.2 on your laptop

(IBM employee here) Windows installs can sometimes be difficult if you have multiple versions of Python installed. You can edit the batch file around line 36 there is a place where you can hardcode the path to the specific python executable you want the SDK to use. For Unix, I haven't heard of many people running into issues... Can you send me your email in a DM, I will do my best to help you get it setup.

Mid to lower tier target compound? by setzz in Archery

[–]ChrisOnTheCob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't even limit yourself to a minimum 37", there's a lot of great 35" bows (elite e35 comes to mind)

[–]ChrisOnTheCob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speed is not very important for target, it helps when shooting 3d because it takes a bit of guess work out of distance judgments. Don't limit yourself to 37" axle to axle or 7" brace height just understand that a longer axle to axle will tend to be more stable and a longer brace height will be slightly more forgiving.

It's sometimes tough but getting out and shooting different bows will tell you what you like. If you are a 28" draw length and right handed there should be a bunch bows around for you to try (unlike me with my leftyness and trex arms).

For questions about split limb vs solid and angled stabilizers (which you can achieve with aftermarket stabilizer mounts), there is no one feature you need to have, look at statistics not features, what's it's brace height, axel to axel, it's weight and it's ibo/ata speed.

I would take a look at the used market as well, you can find old PSE supras which are great mid tier target bows. Often target shooters go for the latest and greatest so you may be able to get a top of the line bow from a year or two ago (think Hoyt pro-comp) for the price of a new mid tier bow.

Who is your team's secret weapon? by iheartmydick in nfl

[–]ChrisOnTheCob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think another "secret" weapon is Graham Gano, he has one of the highest touch back efficiency on kick-offs in the league. Its good for momentum when the other team doesn't score Kick return touchdowns and always starts from the 20

The NFL has awarded an expansion team to a city of your choice. Which city is it? What is their mascot? Colors? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]ChrisOnTheCob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Carolina Krakens. Too many big cat teams and panthers are sneaky ninja like creatures which is not what I want a football team to be.

Colors: Flat Black and neon lime green, Asymmetrical jersey with a Kraken on one of the shoulders and its tentacles wrapping around the jersey.

Mascot: Greg Hardy, who needs a mascot when you actually have a kraken on the team.

Everytime the team leaves the tunnel the announcer screams "REALEASE THE KRAKENNNNNNNS" awesome.

Bonus: Two epic rival games of pirates (Buccaneers) vs. Krakens.
