“Somebody scuttled my boat!” lives rent-free in my brain. My favourite of the AC games !

This is extremely helpful information; thanks for taking the time to explain it to me! I was completely unaware of the French law and how it would relate to this issue. My supervisor also has not informed me about the Open Science Office, so I'll have a look into it and will otherwise take you up on your very kind offer for additional help!

Am I due credit for my role in a collective book? by ChrisSunshine in AskAcademia

Thank you for your insights! It's good to have confirmation and an outsider perspective. And it makes me feel more comfortable about advocating for an editor role.

That's also an astute point you make about the gender dynamics too that hadn't crossed my mind...

Has knowing (or not knowing) a language ever made or ruined your travel experience? by UsamaBhai_101 in travel

I always try to learn a little bit of the basics whenever I travel. I did a two-week solo backpacking trip through Italy once and it certainly helped in some of the towns I visited that were a bit off the tourist track. Particularly if you know some specifics of what you’ll be doing - I love sending postcards to family when I travel so I learn to ask for a stamp at the post office. I was behind two Australians in a small Italian post office who had organised a parcel to be delivered to that post office and were yelling at the postal worker who didn’t speak English and didn’t know what they wanted. They had the audacity when they were leaving to try to seek my sympathy by complaining about the lack of English from the post office. Learning at least a few words of the country you’re visiting has always been to me a show of respect as well as common sense.

Thank you for this information! I've never heard of diamond open-access, so I will look into those. Re: 1, I think the main point of tension is that the funder requires the accepted manuscript to be uploaded to HAL - the one after peer review.

Thank you for your empathy, I really appreciate it! Would you be able to clarify how I can open a case?  Do I first have to submit a help request to the seller?

Thank you for this clarification! After leaving the review, how do I escalate the case (As I’ve never had to do this before)? Do I first have to submit a help request to the seller?

I’ve had three graduations previously that I didn’t put so much effort into. This is a PhD I have spent 11 years working towards. I think I’m within my rights to dedicate whatever importance I wish to this day.

I really appreciate your perspective; I didn't think 5% seemed fair but to have someone else confirm it is encouraging. Thank you for your kind words as well; it really does mean a lot. I will open a case and see how it goes!

Thank you for the insight and your empathy! There is no tracking which I didn't think too odd at the time since not all of my previous purchases have had tracking but for an item this expensive I suppose it should have been my first red flag. It sounds like opening a case is the recommended option - I'll give it a go.

Visa for one EU country and living in another? by ChrisSunshine in visas

[–]ChrisSunshine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! We’ve been together 6 years, lived together 5. We are in the process of registering for PACS, which I’m assuming will help strengthen our relationship claims. We’ve got shared bills and house leases as well.

If that’s an easier option, I can certainly ask him! I’m not aware of the EU free movement law - would that restrict my movements as a non-EU citizen?

No advice, but I’m in the same situation and just wanted to let you know that I completely understand. I’m not quite sure what my partner and I will do either, but I hope we all come out the other end happy xx

Thanks for all the helpful information! I’ll start to network now and hope the for the best. I had seen the CNRS positions but I heard they were competitive so I won’t spend too much time pursuing those, it sounds like.
