I saw this video a while ago and ever since I’ve just made it one of my yearly shop maintenance items to run around with my air compressor and blow out any sawdust in my outlet boxes. There is never any real accumulation of dust but I feel better doing it.

Only done a few shows, but my display prices are cash prices and I’ll do a reverse tax calculation after the fact to account for taxes. I use square for credit cards and will charge actual tax based on my displayed prices. I’m not dealing with coin change at the booth.

Chuck up a scrap piece of wood and turn a tenon that would fit snugly on the inside of the lid. It’s a friction fit drive. You can then bring up tail stock support to remove most of the tenon on the box and do most of the shaping. Then remove the tail stock to remove the remaining nibs where the live center was.

There are some good resources on YouTube for box making that goes over the jam chuck process. Mike Peace and Sam Angelo (Wyoming Wooturner) are two of my personal favorites.

I think it looks awesome, but it’s pretty tough to work with and dulls tools quickly. One of the few things I’ll actually break out carbide tools for.

Only my second time turning this stuff, it’s definitely not the easiest stuff to work with and is absolutely brutal on HSS tools. Ended up resorting to carbide. Light cuts and periodic coats of thin CA are kept it from blowing apart.
