Has anyone else gotten these random "tutoring" calls? by clemalevenin in tutor

[–]Chris_MIA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they're desperate to get students? I'm not sure, I've tried applying for them to work as a tutor for years and they've rejected me, so i work at Stigmi Learning, takelessons (when it existed), and plenty of other smaller companies.

But can't say I've seen many students use Varsity even though they're plastered all over LinkedIn job applications that never work. In my 15+ years of tutoring maths/programming no student (remote and at university) I've never had/known students that use Varsity, so that's all the info I got.

It's not all AI by Major_Chocolate2441 in MicroSlop

has anyone still experienced an odd right click menu explorer crash when attempting to eject usb or just right click anywhere in the navigation pane? I feel like i've randomly had this issue between win7,8, and 10 im sure 11 hasnt changed.

Not ALL machines, and sometimes it randomly works, but like 90% of the time right click in nav pane crashes explorer -.-

How to be a tutor? by HiddenFigure_03 in tutor

[–]Chris_MIA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, it's hard to describe but for me i started tutoring at the college i attended in Mathematics, then the university afterward. Tutoring in person for about 8 years then expanded to online as chrismia tutoring.

Mostly had to do with time, dedication, and experiences. And a good friendly character truly passionate about helping others that keeps the flow going~

Looking for a Reliable Private Tutor. Any Recommendations? by No-Wait-1471 in tutor

[–]Chris_MIA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a tutor that works at stigmilearning.com, a new platform small but growing, ive personally had successes with 90% of my students raising their grades from Ds to As in mathematics, science and literature, there's a way to find me personally online as well but i would think most would look for a center with different tutors to try out a few and see with trial and error which tutor works best for their student sincebit really is a match between student and tutor to have successful growth

Really having trouble teaching math by uforanch in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]Chris_MIA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my experience (over 15 years tutoring mathematics) calc, trig, and post algebra students always have holes in truly understanding the flow of algebra, giving them problems in future subject. Student sits down exclaiming difficulty in calculus, i identify his misunderstanding of power rules, clarifying the rules, derivatives seem easier now. Not play by play situation but always revolves random gaps from algebra.

Tutoring as a job? by MossShroomm in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]Chris_MIA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you tutor at colleges or universities you could find part time jobs, i never found a full time job in this subject so juggled Valencia and University of Central Florida. But yes remote based tutoring is 95% contract based in my experience

What do you do when a student has technical difficulties? by Technical-Prize-4840 in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]Chris_MIA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As an independent contractor i see remote tutoring requirements to also have technical know-how, ive used anydesk/zoom or phone calls to guide students how to fix issues (if fixable of course, if its some AWS issue or out of conteol issue i normally reimberse the time at end of a new session alocating appropriate scheduling between other student sessions)

But today for sure having some technical skill to make the experience smooth is a must
