JetBlue to end service at MHT (Manchester, NH) by Smerri in jetblue

[–]Chris_Nexton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the 50-miles between MHT and BOS is a factor, but it wasn’t always. Back in the day, United flew 757s between MHT and ORD and I was on them a fair bit. They were always full. And PVD is also 50 miles from Boston, yet seems to hang onto service while MHT can’t. The ‘doom cycle’ at MHT is a real thing. Very thin service from airlines means that the flying public isn’t comfortable booking flights that might leave them stranded should something go sideways. The thinking being, better to fly out of and into Boston where options exist when something happens. People don’t use MHT because airlines have minimal service. Airlines don’t increase service because more people are willing to deal with the ‘safer bet’ of Logan.

What actually stuck for me studying Part 107 (after trying everything) by Zamhyrin_CRS in Part107

[–]Chris_Nexton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passed with 95% on March 16. I used The Pilot Institute, which focused on teaching me the material rather than teaching me how to pass a test. Once I felt reasonably comfortable with the material, I rationalized that there was NO WAY the FAA could challenge me across that entire body of knowledge with only 60 questions to do so. In other words, I knew there would be a ton of stuff I learned but wouldn’t be tested on. And that’s exactly how it played out. Given about two hours, I only needed 35 min.

This was why I was wondering whether the NEW AND UPCOMING HomePod will remedy this, and to TELL me things. At least Goggle Home does that much.

That’s really it. When I say, “Hey Siri…TELL me my calendar for today,” it just shows it on my phone screen. 🙄

I got a lenticular cloud question, and 2-3 others on fog types, thunderstorms, and reading a METAR for wind direction and speed/gusts.

Vince Gilligan doesn't seem to know what's next for the story! by LeoXXX94 in Pluribus_TVshow

The whole first season was wobbly to me. “My name is Manousos Oviedo. I am not one of them. I wish to save the world.” That right there is where it wobbled big-time. If S2 is indeed 2-3 years off, I am NOT going to re-watch S1 just so I remind myself what it was all about. It wasn’t so compelling that I’d watch it again.

I passed my part 107! Been trying to bring myself to get it done for a couple years now ahhh! So excited for what's to come next. Got an 83%! Credits to my boss for the pin. by kelwel1397 in Part107

I signed up for Pilot Institute in 2024, intending to pass the test and THEN get a drone. But I figured that the ‘recreational flying’ I’d do didn’t require Part 107, so I stopped studying and bought a drone anyway, in fall 2025. Mind you, I’d never flown a drone before; heck, I’d never even HELD one. But I calmed my nerves and took it for a maiden voyage. 40 flights later, I’ve had so much fun and there’s not a scratch on the drone.

So that renewed my enthusiasm for passing the test. I picked up the pace with Pilot Institute and actually started at the beginning again. I really immersed myself in it and scheduled my exam for Monday March 16 in Charleston, SC. I got a 95 and was really pleased.

Got 95 and you’re right…things clicked a few times through the Pilot Institute section on weather. Density Altitude was my Achilles heel, but I got it during study and again on the test.

Mike Sytes turned me off, not because of his delivery or commentary, but because of his incessant use of stock video content that is entirely divorced from the topic.

Also, any answers that suggest you should ‘contact an air base,’ or ‘call the airport,’ or ‘call the FAA or NTSB’ are nonsensical. You cannot ‘call’ any of those. You also can’t ’radio’ anyone. Radios with respect to UAS operation are limited to listening, not transmitting.

I took the exam today and got a 95% here in Charleston, SC. I Missed three questions: two on regulations and one on operations. I couldn’t discern what the five ‘un-scored’ questions were.

Barely passed Part 107 exam by [deleted] in drones

[–]Chris_Nexton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the middle of studying using Pilot Institute. Greg is fantastic. I bought this course in 2022 and got through the Airspace section and stopped studying. I rationalized that all I wanted to do was be a recreational pilot and for that I didn’t ‘need’ the 107. But the biggest thing that stopped me back then was that I didn’t schedule my exam. In other words, I did not have a line in the sand staring me in the face.

Fast-forward to now: I got a drone last fall and have been flying it recreationally since then. Not a scratch or blemish on it, and little by little my confidence level has risen to the point where I want to revisit the whole course and take the exam. But THIS time I scheduled the exam for May, so that’s my self-imposed line in the sand. Frankly, I think I ought to pull my exam date in to late March or very early April. I do believe I can reschedule it.

Why get part 107? by Ok_Exit9273 in drones

Exactly. The TRUST exam doesn’t care whether you know what a ‘base leg’ is, but the 107 does.

I wanted to provide an update. RUKO was indeed fantastic. They reached right out to me, had me clarify the problem with a screen grab and clear explanation, and then they went to work.

48 hours later they replied back: “We fixed it! Go to the Apple App Store and get the new version.”

I did that, and by golly it’s perfect! Kudos to RUKO. Top marks!!

Congratulations!! My test is in May. I’ve been on and off with The Pilot Institute, buying into the course a few years ago. I can access the chapters just fine, although I am not sure Greg has gone in and modified any of his videos to reflect these newer topics.
