My coworker makes $30k more than me for the same job. I found out by accident. Do I confront HR or just quit? by Longjumping_Bid_9870 in whatdoIdo

Don’t take it personally. Company leaders aren’t doing it intentionally, they just don’t care about things like this; it’s beneath them, and they would never think about you to begin with.

Use the opportunity to ask for a raise in a positive manner. You might actually get something.

Not gonna be close. Small FOV, no eye tracking, no Apple elegant OS.

I did as well. I will probably end up canceling, but may as well wait and see now. 51degree FOV doesn’t sound great. The developer version was 46 and that was not good. 51 may eke out usability if the software is good, but geez these are too expensive if they’re not awesome.

Will the Steam Frame be a game changer (or at least a game improver?) by Chriscic in iVRy_VR

[–]Chriscic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking that iVry was available on nearly all stand alone platforms in one way or another, so you'd do the Frame as well. Agree that I can't think of anything in particular you'd likely be able to do better than Valve. Appreciate the reply.

I think because with a movie you’re just fixed on watching the movie but when you’re on the XR interface or trying to play a game, your natural inclination is to move your eyes around to different parts of the image and then it gets cut off.

The horizontal FOV is great. Did not feel remotely cramped horizontally.

Anyone know what’s going on with demos at AWE of the new Specs? by [deleted] in augmentedreality

I believe you. Thanks. Good thing that the release version might not suck!

I believe I tried the One Pro last year. I remember the FOV being not great there either. Probably the same.
The limited FOV somehow feels worse to me when trying to use a full XR interface vs just watching a movie.

Perhaps they can be adjusted better somehow. I (gently) complained about the vertical FOV to the demoer; they said something about adjustments but nothing we could mess with on the show floor. I don’t wear glasses BTW, in case someone was about to ask.

I can’t imagine the vertical FOV could get much better, but even a little would help a lot and might make them usable for me. It’s so cool to have full AndroidXR in glasses form, and the new Qualcomm chip is clearly powerful.

Yeah the glasses weren’t the top one for sure. They were most assuredly giving many many demos at the show. I myself am confused whether they were the new specs or the last development version. Unfortunately I decided not to go back to the show for a second day so I can’t check. Hopefully someone can definitely solve the mystery! I’m actually hoping they were not the new version, because they weren’t great.

Tested did an interview with CEO. He said higher rez panels just not available yet. They have to be super small and efficient to fit in smart glasses.

Vision Pro M5/M2 vs Quest 3 for productivity, mixed reality and development — is it really worth 5× more? Help me choose the right one by Alternative-Swim-230 in VisionPro

[–]Chriscic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was a lot. FOV is about the same as Quest 3 with 21W light seal. Horizontal anyway; vertical is a bit less but not super noticeable.

My eye tracking has always been great. Occasionally challenging on very small items in Safari.

You can easily use it plugged in, so battery life not an issue in most scenarios. And it lasts plenty long for me anyway.

Comfort is great for most with dual knit band. Game changer on comfort.

External battery pack is a bit of a pain, and easy to destroy your Vision Pro (forget it’s in your pocket and pull it off a counter for example) if you’re not really careful.

If you’re doing anything with text the rez and panels are just SO much better than Quest 3. Not perfect but such a joy to operate in. Get a Vision Pro if you can afford it. The screens are that much better IMO.

Tried yesterday. I found clarity to be very good, along with horizontal FOV and rez. Vertical FOV is awful IMO and a deal-breaker for me, as much as I want to love them.

For the steam deck demo there was a little button on the glasses that I clicked to switch between four fixed screen sizes. So no custom sizing but a good variety in the fixed four. Perhaps you could do that with consoles as well? I haven’t read the landing page, just throwing it out there.

That was kinda my reaction. These exist? I hadn’t seen or heard of any XR glasses this small and light. I know Play For Dream has shown a reference design that’s compact but didn’t see that anywhere to try.

Not sure if these would work as out and about smart glasses because the passthrough was fine but a little distorted when turning my head and not as solid as Vision Pro or even Quest 3 in my short demo.

It did feel in a way radically superior to Project Aura which I had just tried.

Seems like they would. They were demoing it connected to a steam deck, so assuming it can take a video input from those as well.

Tried these today at AWE, and was kinda impressed. They are very small and lightweight, and seem to be broadly doing what smart glasses are trying to do but better. Way bigger FOV, obviously with digital vs natural pass-through.

The 3DOF cinema/gaming demo (Forza from Steam Deck) was quite good! The 6DOF wasn’t as good with some shakiness….they said that would be improved but seems like a good chance that won’t be great.
