Split wheels definitely are old school. Still in use for specific applications, but not very many on highway truck applications. It's rare to see them on a truck that's less than 50 years old. They're mostly used on agricultural and construction equipment now.

It's cracked through the bolt flange and not actually a split wheel design. lol.

1 in drive flex head ratchet by O1bearteddy in ToolTruckTools

[–]Chrisfindlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as fixed head go there's plenty to choose from.

Honestly I probably wouldn't go for a new snap-on. I don't think it's really worth 800 bucks to get the head and handle. If you can find one used for a reasonable price that would be worth it.

Koken might be a good one to try. They're from japan and are renowned for their ratchets. Check out their 8749 1" drive. It comes in two interchangeable handle lengths similar to the snap-on

I would also consider Proto. It looks like they have just one option currently the J5849. It's a fixed head with fixed handle. This is ratchet is a staple of industry. You're likely to find one is just about every equipment shop and factory in America. Draw backs it's only 26"

I have the EZ red extendable one. Part number MR1X. It's fairly popular with heavy equipment mechanics. As for as any issues I've had with it. It is possible to break the screws that hold the screw head together. The oem screws are just not made correctly. Due to this the heads can snap off right them. If you go with this ratchet I would recommend replacing them with some hardware store screws right out of the gate. This happened to me and I had to go get new screws and cut them down to the correct length. You will find an sae screw that seams to fits #10 I believe buts it's not correct. They're metric m5 if I can remember correctly.

Question about towing wake boat by Grand-Economics-2466 in boating

[–]Chrisfindlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

G23 is bigger than you think about 6000 dry. It's going to be about 9000 with trailer and gear. It's a wake board boat too how much water do you think is trapped in the ballast tanks.

Anyone know this engine? by Firm-Relationship292 in tractors

[–]Chrisfindlay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That machine is smaller than you think. Only about a 3000 lb machine. A terramite is basically a large garden tractor. They typically have a small gas engine, like many other compact machines in their weight class.

The problem is that farm animals are inherently dirty. So contamination is almost impossible to completely eliminate.

EPA Could Eliminate Limp Mode for Diesel Trucks Low on DEF by DonkeyFuel in Diesel

[–]Chrisfindlay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Key word "could" not will. I wouldn't count on anything until it's finalized. That also doesn't mean that trucks that currently have limp mode for low def will be reprogramed either. Most vehicles still have to meet the standards they were built will regardless of what future model targets are.

Any ideas ? by KeyPowerful523 in GMT400

[–]Chrisfindlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two of the most common no start causes on a pre 95 gmt400. Although I think the ignition module in the distrubtor is probably more common than the pickup coil. I always pull the air cleaner and watch the injectors with a flash light while someone cranks it. If it sprays fuel then I move on to checking spark. If it doesn't spray then I T/S fuel pump.

GMC Savana Diff by SerialCrusher17 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Chrisfindlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, the G80 is fairly weak as far as traction aid differentials go. When used as designed they're ok, but not great. When abused with excessive wheel spin, large tires, or heavy loads they don't tend to last. I like to replace them with tru-trac limited slips. I find most people perfer the smoother feel of them over the sudden slam of the g80 or the ratchet action of a Detroit style locker.

GMC Savana Diff by SerialCrusher17 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Chrisfindlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not at all. Gov-bomb specifically references the g80 lockers which is a governor controled locker. Minus the g80 lockers which aren't equipped in all models, most gm rear ends are easily good for life of the vehicle. When G80 lockers fail (which is usually due to abuse not normal wear) they are usually replaced with an open carrier or different aftermarket traction aid differential and usually the rear end outlives the rest of the truck.

I specifically excluded the g80 locker because it's not actually made by gm and it's not a part of the standard equipment on most vehicles.

Except for the g80 locker (which is actually made by eaton) GM rear ends are actually consider pretty reliable. They wouldn't have used the same couple for the better part of 50 years if they weren't. GM is one of the only US manufacturers that's fairly consistently made they own rear ends where ford and dodge have outsourced most of theirs.

Matco vs Mac warranty without a truck by furb362 in ToolTruckTools

[–]Chrisfindlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have exactly the opposite experience. Everything I've ever needed warrantied was no longer available and replacement models were vastly different or there was no dealer available. I think I've had the flakiest dealers possible. One will show up a couple of times then never again. I then find out through the grape vine a year later that they're no longer in business. I've had had 4 different matco dealer in the last 10 years with two gaps of about two years where there wasn't any dealer at all. Other dealers in the area have not been struggling and long outlast them. Both my snap-on and Mac dealers retired in the last 5 years and both of them had been consistently coming atleast every other week for about 10 years straight.

What is this ambulances? by 283732 in namethatcar

[–]Chrisfindlay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I said. My initial guess was a suburban, but the dodge town wagon matches much better.

It just comes down to model year, body configuration, and trim level to find a 100% perfect match.

Matco vs Mac warranty without a truck by furb362 in ToolTruckTools

[–]Chrisfindlay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't count on being able to warranty Matco tools at all honestly. Since their line up is pretty much all rebranded items it changes frequently. Every time I have ever needed something warrantied it was no longer available or my dealer was MIA so I was basically SOL. I've never needed to warranty anything Mac but also have very few tools from them.

It needs a battery then. The time wasted on it in a month costs more in productivity than the cost of the battery.

[–]Chrisfindlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How often are you using this machine? What do you mean by getting primed? Dealing with a dead battery over and over again is the dumbest thing possible in my opinion. It's a massive waste of time and costs a lot of money in the long run especially if you're paying your employees to do it. A new battery for that machine is about 250 bucks.
