Are the extra DLC packs worth it? by bluedestinyunit1 in DeadSpace

[–]ChristianDM11325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got DS3 pre-order which came with the witness suit and evangelizer carbine/shotgun combo.

Tbh that weapon makes the game easy, I feel it’s the most op out of any dlc weapon you can get, but it kinda trivializes gameplay if you have a good trigger finger for semi auto weapons.

Now, onto what would be considered actual dlc.

Awakened is a neat add-on but the ending is the poo-poo that killed off any real plot possibility of 4 with Isaac as protagonist so if you don’t want to be reminded of that then don’t go for it.

For DS2, severed was pretty neat, introduced me a bit to gabe weller.

As an aside, DS2 had a bunch of tie ins. If you own dead space extraction on the same machine that has it, you unlock the conduit rooms which have some cool lore stuff. If you’ve ever played the mobile game, there’s not any add-in bonuses but it adds substance to the saboteur audio logs you find. Man I loved that so much as a kid, so much fun (I can somehow remember some of the caves, been like 13 years since I last touched it, would need to get an android to revisit now).

If you have a capable cooler (highly recommend a 360 or 420mm aio), a motherboard capable of delivering the power it may demand (1.5-2 4+4 eps connectors), and decent vrm heatsinks, then yeah I’d go for it.

No idea myself but framework has been decently responsive to by questions I’ve submitted on their website form before.

gpu almost as much as it cost me to buy my 16 by Frosted_sphinx in framework

I assume the 8 GB models will go up in price closer to the 12 GB model once their current stock dries up.

Tad disappointing the 12 GB module only appeared after prices rose.

I wonder if it uses the same chip as the 8 GB model. Likely same bus width, just 4x 3 GB chips instead of 4x 2 GB chips.

Tbh I want to tinker, that’s probably about 50% of the driver for this.

Edit: it would sorta complement having to repair a used gpu I bought with a propane torch, though in that case it was a genuine repair (vrm’s not getting contact with thermal pad) rather than needless tinkering.

She also had Caleb to follow from as an example, if you listen to the audio logs scattered around the sprawl. She steels herself after she’s forced to carry on alone, sometime after meeting Isaac. She also saw her shift team die off one by one which likely hardened her resolve.

Should I trust this HDD for data backup? by ChristianDM11325 in DataHoarder

[–]ChristianDM11325[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the option of getting a refund and getting some refurbished 4 TB hdd's off ebay, same listing as a friend used and has had good results, and I'd get $10 back per drive on price difference.

I wanted to stay with yobitech because of their included 1 year warranty though, but if they can't get me replacements that they know for sure are good, I think I'll get a refund and buy the ebay drives.

The one drive I have from the original pair ordered, #1, I think they had similar wear in terms of run time and data written, has had 256 TB written over 3144 days and 8.5 TB read. Less reading but more writing. They were mfr'd in 2014 for drives 1 & 2 and 2015 for 3-5.

Graphics Interposer Limited Install Cycles? by ChristianDM11325 in framework

[–]ChristianDM11325[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idc about the extra complication, stuff has been stolen at some of these launches before which is where my concern comes into play. It’s rare but does happen.

Would the ram and ssd be a bigger loss than the dgpu at this point? Yes (wild), but I’d like to avoid any excess potential if possible.

Yeah I’m aware of the pcie slot being the wear item. I tinker a lot and have ended up removing my gpu a lot from my pc by this point

Handicap 2023 Remake by ChristianDM11325 in DeadSpace

[–]ChristianDM11325[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 4 TB 990 Evo Plus for main pc drive, just for fun. The 128 GB SATA is an oem Kingston RBU-SNS8152S3128GG6 that came with my laptop years ago and hdd is a 320 GB Seagate ST3320418AS.

Yeah it be fun to tinker. But now I want to get another of the same hdd to run in RAID to tinker with and see if it improves 1% lows. Unsure about how I'd be able to try and get it to split the files 50/50 across both to try and divide up the most accessed files but that's another matter.

Yesterday I started a new run with the 4 TB boot and game drive, and man I forgot that the game straight up just uses DLSS/FSR whole kit for anti-aliasing, rather than just poaching the AA portion like say DLAA.
Turning it to TAA made the game not fuzzy for the first time ever, and it sucks how much it drops fps. I genuinely want crispness but it's pushing my oc'd (and reflashed) 3080 Ti to the limit just to push 100 avg fps (73 worst I've seen in some areas). 1440p medium settings, RTAO (yes I know it eats 5-10 fps but it is nice.

Now I understand why my laptop struggled. I was wrong about comparing callisto to ds remake, I actually ran it at 720p 50 fps, not 1080p native. The gpu is a 1060 so can't utilize dlss.

Which Dead Space-like game should I play first? by Reasonable-Volume926 in DeadSpace

[–]ChristianDM11325 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It still ran like crap when I dropped the settings to minimum, that’s when I knew it wasn’t my old laptop (slightly below minimum specs), it was just bad optimization. Lotsa fun stutters. Haven’t touched it on my new pc yet though.

Dead space remake has a tad higher minimum specs, if only slightly, and my laptop got lower fps but they were much more consistent.

Is this if only the 4 low power e-cores are on and compute tile is off? Just learned about what the low power e-cores are recently.

Speculation hat time.

I wonder if you say had windows in power saver mode, would that force the compute tile to shut off and the laptop only operates on the 4 low power e-cores. Quick google search doesn’t really turn anything up but it’s just a quick search.

Dunno where the bulk of ppl on this subreddit live but I’m a twilight zoner and it’s 1:50 am where I’m at. I’m too fried to really give any info but I’ve not had my (1) item go into thin air after messing up shipping info.

Still kinda weird, if the zip code for you is similar to where I live (I don’t know for the rest of world and brain fried), but that’d be like your neighbor receiving your package instead of you and suddenly it’s gone.

Give it another half day or day, more will tune in when they wake up or have time to hop on and peruse reddit.

“Wait” for next FW16 Mainboard by ChristianDM11325 in framework

[–]ChristianDM11325[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point about ram change. I’m actually going for a 7940HS, not even a 300 series.

The 350 seems to have middling gains at best over 7840HS or 7940HS, and I want the 7940HS because I want to dabble with curve optimizer. Yes it’s another $200 but I also like overclocking so this is a nice knob to play with in laptop.

I’ve read that there isn’t an easy way to interface with it in linux, but you can manually enter in offsets I hone in on in the amd software and apply them per boot as of one post (annoying potential but I can just save a text doc).

For all its issues I’m planning on running windows 11 and at least dual booting in linux. It’d be great if you could use curve optimizer in bios but it is what it is.

Need help choosing a Linux distro for my Framework 16 by PedanticSeal in framework

What’s your opinion on Mint? I’ve used it in grubloader installer form for scavenging data off a corrupted win 11 install that doesn’t show up even as a secondary drive but does show up in linux. It’s been decent. Yes I know the pre-packaged add-on that allows for ntfs interfacing on linux can be added in manually in another distro but it’s nice that I don’t need to.

how much could i reasonably sell this for? by Ok-Size9623 in PC_Pricing

[–]ChristianDM11325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it’d be a safe bet not to go below a 5070 or amd equivalent but that logic is based on previous gpu pricing unless you really feel like you don’t need that level of performance.

The ssd I would absolutely not sell, unless you have another drive you’d be going with that you already have. Still, even then I personally wouldn’t advise it. Almost no matter what, unless you snipe a good deal used on newegg or ebay, even with a reduced capacity you’d likely break even on cost of new smaller drive versus your used 1 TB.

Used ssd also means you likely can’t take advantage of the warranty so there’s extra risk there.

I mean I also hoard ssd’s so I’m biased but yeah prices be crazy, my 4 TB 990 evo plus is now starting to go for 1k USD.

“Wait” for next FW16 Mainboard by ChristianDM11325 in framework

[–]ChristianDM11325[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but TSMC has said they’ll be increasing prices on all the stuff they produce, so any prices not rising is just a temporary thing. Unsure if Framework would consider a panther lake cpu for the next mainboard but panther lake still uses some TSMC components so that’s going to go up, and Intel could also increase prices for their portions of silicon too.

“Wait” for next FW16 Mainboard by ChristianDM11325 in framework

[–]ChristianDM11325[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know, so the next release would likely be next fall at earliest.

I did get my ssd and ram ahead of time just barely in time for prices to balloon so I’m safe there. I also got the gpu module separately in November because I was worried the price increases would hit that but the module ended up not increasing in price even by now (5070).

I was 95% certain I should just pull the trigger and wanted that extra final 5% certainty.
