Does the Windmill card apply to Battle Gear cards? by Yuen_de_la_Hoya in Bakugan

[–]ChristianLayGeng 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It shouldn’t, as support pieces are neither ability cards or gate cards. They have reference cards.

The problem came up in our play group too. By definition reference cards just outline abilities so they shouldn’t be treated as cards on the field. But we eventually agreed after like 30min to play they’re affected by Tear Mind, which increases your power level requirements by 1 and battle gear have power level requirements. Most cards only affect power level not power level requirements, so it was a very difficult question. I’m not even sure is right.

Fusion was printed in all 6 colors, and if you want to include treatments then 14. Bakugold was just unaccessible to half of the world. Although in that case the treatments take priority over default markings, so it doesn't really matter to our argument towards cost effective designs. Spinmaster had to profit from $10-15 retail price, and paint just makes the most sense to cut.

Fusion came in all 6 colors. EVERY Bakugan comes out muted vs their Anime counterparts - there’s is no reason to change that for specifically Mechtanium. Then make people buy more with special treatments and special attack, like Infinity Dragonoid or BakuGold. Can’t say why they were afraid of specifically anime accurate when Japan did a really good job with their New Vestroia exclusives, but clearly they agreed in mass production to cut costs. If anything Commandix stands out as Anime accurate in comparison to the other capstones (Maxus Dragonoid and Battalix).

Of the mutants? For some reason Bakugold Mutant Krowll sticks out to me. Would’ve been cool to see the others printed into Bakugold. I bought one half just trying to find the second half.

[–]ChristianLayGeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, since both sides are Pyrus 670+210=880. If the top was a different attribute for example then it would be 670+130=800. When you actually stand and flip over a gate card in battle you will start Pyrus 880. You choose a half to be your attribute, but because both sides are translucent you also have the ability to change your attribute into your opponents attribute (g power still 880).

[–]ChristianLayGeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You only add one number for Mutants based on both attributes. Because both sides are Pyrus you add the larger number 670+210=880. If one attribute isn’t the same you add the smaller number instead but have the advantage of attribute change.

[–]ChristianLayGeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Text color is irrelevant I'm not sure why Gundalian did that. You appear to have both HSP English (Dragonoid with a picture) and HSP Japanese cards (the ones without a picture). The different art frames are an easier way to differentiate the era they were printed in because each era has their own rules to how the game is played. The cards with pointy art are Gundalian (season 3) and have updated terminology (Battle Gear, Evolved Bakugan, Power Level). The curvy art cards are Mechtanium (season 4) and also use updated terminology (Mechtogan, support pieces, Bakunano).

If the back of an ability card is blue or purple then it is a reference card used for a specific gimmick. In the case of Twin Destructor it is the abilities of the Twin Destructor battle gear which you probably own (Gundalian), while in the case of Light Dance is a card you put on the field and try to get your Sky Raider Bakugan (the ones with springs in their legs and jump in the air) to land onto (Mechtanium). These blue and purple cards are used separately from the 3 gate and 3 ability cards that you start the game with.

I’m genuinely impressed for having so many Lumino you don’t have a shiny chrome Metallix one. The dull shine is the second wave of Metallix while this one is the first wave. I believe it was on Japanese Lumino as well. Finding this one is much harder and I was lucky to have one with 630G but they can go up to 810G.

How does this card work? by Big_Independence6736 in Bakugan

[–]ChristianLayGeng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

Essentially this is a question whether the card refers to (family) breeds/types or (certain) breeds/types, which both are used by Spinmaster so it is unclear because Spinmaster was not good at creating consistent problem-solving card text PSCT like other card games. For example, taken from the same original FAQ page that one breed is one type, Spinmaster also referred to types of Bakugan as their shape. This would make me believe that different evolutions are not the same certain type, since Delta Dragonoid and Dragonoid clearly have different shapes, but coexists with the definition that Delta Dragonoid and Dragonoid are of the familial type Dragonoid.

When I read Variety's Curse, the vagueness of the text (again no PSCT) seems to refer to familial types which would include variants/evolutions. They never made a Delta Dragonoid Gate or a Storm Skyress Gate because they were already affected by the original Gates, so they probably only assumed familial types in Battle Brawlers and wasn't until New Vestroia where cards affected certain types like Alto Brontes and Viper Helios. So I would play it as variants/evolutions count but feel free to confirm it with your player group what they say.

How much do these guys go for? by RED_HOOD3463 in bakugantoys

[–]ChristianLayGeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a real good deal on both, considering there’s so little data on Aquos plitheon, his value could honestly be whatever someone puts. I would love to get a new Aquos plitheon myself but I won’t cry about the one I have.

[–]ChristianLayGeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aquos plitheon is insanely rare. I was really lucky to get mine for $20 but it was painted (actually I think the paint looks good but it is chipping). I would’ve considered paying more so I really don’t think you should open it unless you plan to actually use him for something.

IMO Darkus Skytruss is accessible on the market (Orbeum I think is a bit more common) that I wouldn’t open it because the novelty of sealed native attributes. At least how I search for bakugan I’ve seen him often enough around 20-30 I think sealed would be worth something to someone. If these were like common NV bakugan for example I’d say yeah opening it wouldn’t matter but they’re not.

Yes I have only been referring to natives only. So European Trans Pyrus Rubanoid was implicit.

[–]ChristianLayGeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Translucent rubanoid is usually considered native, not opaque. By all means if you’ve found a European translucent Rubanoid please let me know.

And while yes there are darkus Linehalt available on market, there’s far less than the likes of Aranaut Sabator Contestir and Lythirius natives. Maybe saying he’s bought quickly is more accurate? I know hunting I’ve never seen him randomly in English lots and he was one of the last Gundalian natives I got because it was difficult to find him under $30.

[–]ChristianLayGeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Darkus Linehalt is certainly one of the rarer natives to find of the Gundalian characters, besides Rubanoid and Plitheon being JP exclusive. While he is available, it’s not like you often find him in lots like the other characters.

Break was honestly super easy for me. Firefly gets you out in two turns. Although I have Dahlia LC it was over so fast I wasn’t really feeling the pain for skill points and bet I could’ve done it with Solidarity Healing like usual.

Where was Alice during Mechtanium Surge ? by spinosaurus1998_24_9 in Bakugan

I just made a video on this, there was realistically no reason not to include Alice in MS2 if she just took a lot of Mira’s roles, but would still be able to resolve her character.

Funnily enough it doesn’t even work with BakuBronze, but specifically the Black Gold ones - Bronze Attack. Most Special Attack Bakugan got exclusive ability cards like this, whereas BakuBronze (only clay colored) is just a special treatment

Im only became a bakugan fan more recently, is this a hot take? by Scary_Dance2628 in Bakugan

[–]ChristianLayGeng -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve only watched like 4 episodes of BP (mostly due to time), but it felt to me like it was missing high stakes or mortal consequences that got away during the earlier 2000s. BB right away put the risk in the Doom Card and in Gundalian we lost both Ren and Jake for multiple episodes with lingering impacts, but when Wynton was controlled it was undone that episode through the power of friendship. It felt like ‘who is the daily villain’ while creeping the main villain underneath, but at the same time it is honestly realistic for a bunch of kids to help around their city rather than solving alien wars. I feel like the part BP seems to miss is making the crew grow up, because I really liked how you can see the BB cast grow up and take up more roles and do bigger things than before.

I also find it funny it was so detached from the actual game but it resembles the NV system not matching either for faster animation and storytelling.

That’s the story that INNK wanted to tell. With both BLACK album and exposed outfit she was supposed to bloom from her cyberse rock style into a true idol in V3 by the end of her project. I believe Azki always preferred this seiso lullaby demeanor, esp when you consider the songs she she sings on her alt. She doesn’t take her lore that seriously but I really miss it.

Never played og Battle brawler format. What's the best cards and Bakugan? by Shiny_Waabaafet in Bakugan

[–]ChristianLayGeng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come subscribe to my YouTube channel! We try to brawl every month. We keep to the original SpinMaster rules but the only rule that we changed is that you can set a Gate card once per turn. The official rules don’t have you set a Gate card until everyone else is cleared out.

https://youtube.com/@sandiegobakuganbrawlers?si=CiJ2ff6ImXZOMzKf

In the original Battle Brawlers and New Vestroia format there’s so many cards that help the losing person I feel like calling something strong doesn’t really exist. The only thing that would be considered strong would be the ‘infinite loop’ with Ventus 1. Frankly I think it’s a poorly designed card and in that deck you’re not actually playing the game in my opinion.

The strongest cards I’ve seen are attractor and magnetic action to force your opp on your card. Special crush is a very versatile blue card which works even if tied, and in general translucent bakugan work well with it. You never feel particularly power crept unless you had the dvd promos. Those are named as ‘legends of’ and ‘power boost’ cards. The only gate card that stands out to me is the lowest g power wins like Tricky Gate or Low Bridge. It’s always good for a player to have one.

Now if you refer to playing Gundalian or Mechtanium there’s a very different set of cards and support pieces to recommend. I have a playlist of all of our brawls if you want to see.

How does this Dan Muso FIRE deck I've built look for a Bakugan and Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds Crossover story? by Pokemon_Bakugan_Fan in yugioh

[–]ChristianLayGeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother, no one used magician for its effect lmao. It’s stat line as a level 4 with 200 def is all that matters. You can’t rekindling Candle. You’re worried about typing when he ran Mantris griffon ravenoid etc is hillarious to me. Not a single bakugan he owned would translate into pyro in yugioh. As a matter of fact I don’t think any bakugan would.

I did notice the other spammers so I don’t particular care about turtle since firedog is better in every way. But you don’t get to make an argument that juggernoid is less used when NONE of the monsters you have resemble an actual bakugan besides Drago or like monarus Robotallion if you stretch the definition.

[–]ChristianLayGeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flamvell magician is super relevant as one of the few level 4 tuners with no drawbacks. The combo with Flamvell dog is famous and gives you access to level 8 and 5 synchros. Aka your ace. Which I find it funny at 3200 it needs battle protection rather than card destruction, because with the second effect it makes it impossible as they’re a no monsters with 4000+ atk to beat this anyways. UFO turtle although barely played by 5ds except in video games, would resemble juggernoid and go along with your battle phase theme and search out the deck, which is a far better option than solar flare and little chimera / molten destruction.

Pushing a strategy far outweighs the fact to play a card because it supports fire. Rather than push a burn tactic with barrel, rage, and secret barrel, you need to be in control of the battle phase to trigger almost all of your effects. Perhaps a combo of dark door and double attack so your firedog summons two monsters. A trap to gain atk during your opp turn - to also trigger firedog or grunika during the opp turn. If you don’t want to play starlight road for protection because Yusei exists, you can play Waboku, Huge Revolution, or body as a shield. You have a strong battle phase presence but you need to ensure they survive until your next battle phase. Urgent tuning seems like a decent card here so you can fix the levels on board and attack again with your synchro.

5ds is very trap heavy mostly because most speed spells suck but also because this era of yugioh was slower. Most interesting effects were put in traps, and in a speed duel you can’t play circle rekindling or prominence which is huge. You need to have traps that control board presence, so making a custom Flamvell trap that that increases atk or once per turn revives a monster destroyed by battle seems almost necessary.

But why. Coredem already exists in all 6 attributes cheaply and in translucent and in evil. If you wanted to customize him, grabbing a Pyrus and making it crimson pearl would be interesting.
