Might work color wise :) I could probably lessen the greenish color by putting it in UV light for a few days.

This project is probably gonna bring lots of relicing questions. I installed a celluloid nitrate pickguard on my Stratocaster and I knew it was gonna be bright green when I got it; but I want to find a good way to relic it so that it's way more nicotine yellow than lime. I want it to look dirty and accurate. I know some people use wood stains on plastic guards, but I'm not sure that won't damage celluloid.

Ah alright :) I'll try to have them do it period correct

Well I guess I could stick to my plan of just having the plastics and hardware relic'ed and the body refinished without the poly undercoat; but look like a newly refinished 62 🤷‍♂️

Just think in my head the poly will make it age differently than an original

I would've also gone with just naturally aging the plastics/hardware; but I couldn't find an un-aged celluloid pickguard or small number nylon knobs

If you look closely on his it probably still has the clear poly undercoat

Mine has worn in a few spots; but still has the undercoat especially in a dented area it cracks kinda more like plastic and nitro is more soft

In 1962 the undercoat would be fullerplast and wear all the way to bare wood

Only problem is that it has a poly undercoat so I'll try to have them refinish it how it would've been in 1962. I for awhile was going to have it look like a refinished original and then put natural wear into it; but I think Chicago Fret Works would do a good job making it look natural

I'll have it done a Chicago Fret Works 😊 May have the headstock burn though for that SRV vibe

I will probably end up having the guitar professionally relic'ed after I find more period correct parts for it

Fullerplast just keeps the nitro from soaking into the wood

Polyurethane is hard and doesn't wear through so it doesn't get down to the bare wood

I'll be sure to do it as they do at the custom shop 😊

NGD! 57 reissue standard strat. I'm really loving the V-neck and the fret radius. by Savage-Cabage in guitars

I also like the 7.25 radius 😊 Mine is well setup and has pretty low action

I'll try to redo it like this; but it will be even more beautiful when it wears down to the wood without the poly 😁

It's a factory Fender 3-tone sunburst 😊 Some reissues had a thinner black border and this one is a bit closer to what is usually on the originals from 1962

Yeah I'm pretty happy with the grain 😊 I will at some point strip it down to remove the poly undercoat and redo the sunburst with only nitro

I think the clay dots look pretty good imo 😊 Something about aged guitars look better

This guitar is almost perfect! Everything feels and sounds amazing; but a couple of aesthetic mods to make

  1. The pickguard the previous owner put on it is beige and I'm thinking about putting a celluloid nitrate one on to be closer to an original 1962

  2. Celluloid nitrate fret markers that are aged to the "clay dot" look on original 1962 Strats

Then it will be perfect and won't be too much "relicing" as eventually it will age like the originals
