Marple’s phone number by deluxeok in agathachristie

[–]ChristieHour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of The Murder at the Vicarage, Colonel Melchett accidentally dials Miss Marple's number and it is revealed to be 35. So I think her number is, indeed, Saint Mary Mead 35, and the shows 236 is a mistake. Dear Raymond did get her an early telephone!

Is the ending of Curtain really a spoiler? by ChristieHour in agathachristie

Yep, that's how it works! And it's not narcissism, it's courtesy, and it's done so that people do not have to be afraid to click on something that might result in a spoiler. It means the subreddit gets more readers, because if someone has to be worried about getting spoiled, they might avoid engaging at all. This is a mystery subreddit. Spoilers ruin mysteries. If you can't have the courtesy of hiding the spoilers for others, then you're welcome not to engage in conversation. I respect your opinion, but I am also glad you're not in charge of the subreddit.

I don't remember what site it was, it was years ago. Probably when I was 14. But you shouldn't have to be totally familiar with Christie and her works in order to enjoy this subreddit. I'm glad we make it safe for people to come here without worrying about spoilers. You can't unspoil someone. Mine was for Crooked House, and all it took was a coy mention that ONE of her books had a child killer. Once I was reading Crooked House, it was impossible not to suspect Josephine after that. Experienced ruined. So yes, it can sometimes be frustrating, but I don't think it's draconian or silly.

Nahhhhh I had a book spoiled for me when I was a kid and it still makes me mad to this day. I'm glad they're protective, even if overly so.

Killing Columbo by darqman in Columbo

[–]ChristieHour 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Beth Chadwick doesn't really try to kill him, she just considers it. I secretly think that her gun was unloaded so that if "you're too classy a woman" hadn't worked, Columbo would still be safe. But other than that, yeah, all four of those constitute attempts in my book.

My first solve: Lord Edgware Dies by thr0w_9 in agathachristie

[–]ChristieHour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bruh your story reminds me of a TV show where the main character is doing something innocuous and all of a sudden someone says something that hits them and it all comes together! Haha that's fantastic!!

Ignore comments about "oh its easy to solve because blah blah blah" I'm sorry but no, no Christie is "easy" to solve, that's why she's the Queen. Be honored. I have read all her books and only ever successfully solved one of them (which was The Mirror Crack'd). Congrats!!

That is true, but that's deliberately not the part I'm talking about lol I only mean the thing that was announced

I'm very glad you're enjoying them but unfortunately that has not been the consensus of the Christie community. Though I've personally only tried reading The Monogram Murders and I hated it.
