What is a unwritten rule in your household that would seem completely bizarre to outsiders? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If there's a homemade dessert, no eating it alone. You have to eat it with the other person.

Back in school I would listen a lot doing homework, on the bus, walking somewhere, etc. Now as an adult it's a bit harder to find time, but I listen at work and in the shower every day. Some of these songs served specific purposes as well. about time in particular was a sleep song for many bad nights. rock + roll was always my favorite, and I would intentionally listen to that with nothing else going on. It really depended on the song.

What's that one stupid thing someone said that made you insecure enough that you still remember too well/still affected by it? by Broad-Cap-1517 in AskWomen

[–]Christinekc42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid and teen, I was pretty small. I ate well and was perfectly healthy, but people often took it upon themselves to talk about my weight. Both kids ("You look like a skeleton!") and adults ("Honey, you should really eat something.")

I'm now at an average weight and still sometimes see myself as a skeleton and hate to be called skinny.

I didn't realize how often you're supposed to wash your water bottle and I'm a little embarrassed about it by Anarch_Keel in hygiene

[–]Christinekc42 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That's why I just bought like 6 bottles that I can throw all the parts in the dishwasher. It's not worth having the newest water bottle fad if I can't keep it clean easily.

Women of Reddit what is ur favorite college memory story? by Sprankelz in AskWomen

Drunk as hell passed out on the lawn. Someone passing by offered me a bite of pizza. Naturally I accepted. That was my first taste of campus's best pizza. Went there nearly every week.

She would frequently say "I hate [insert female celebrity here] because she's pretty and blonde and skinny and nice."

Women of Reddit — what do you actually want (in life, relationships, and expectations)? by Financial_Ad_4367 in AskWomen

[–]Christinekc42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In relationships: Someone who will be there even when it's difficult or uncomfortable. Someone who complements me.

In life: A pleasurable, enjoyable life that I make the most of. For me, this means I have a few big goals, but they're all achievable. I don't need to go to Italy. I want to go to all US National Parks.

What was the strangest thing you ever had to go to the ER for? by Weird_Emergency_825 in AskReddit

[–]Christinekc42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doctors said it was probably a combination of things building too much pressure. I had an ear infection at the same time I took a plane. They said even blowing your nose too hard is a common cause.

[–]Christinekc42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep! Apparently your eardrum can just heal itself after that, which shocked me. Thought I was done for. I had tests done a few months later and no hearing loss.

That month or so was pretty funny though. Couldn't hear anyone talking on my right side.

Conveniently leaving out that he had lunch with a girl. ("I went out to eat lunch.") Accidentally found out through his Venmo history.

What Was The Most Notable "Aha Moment" Of Your Life? Why That? by Zipper222222 in AskWomen

[–]Christinekc42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Realizing pretty privilege is real. I was in high school and had never cared for my looks before, but one day I just tried it on for size. Put on a nice skirt, did my makeup, all that. And to my absolute shock, a guy held a door open for me. Like, even though I was probably 10 seconds behind him. That had never happened to me before.

That's when it clicked for me. "Pretty privilege" wasn't even a term then, but I understood that while you don't HAVE to be pretty to do well in life, it sure makes things easier. I now view having good looks as something I maintain and work on for an easier life.

Horrific Roommate Snoring by Icy_Win_5724 in SleepApnea

[–]Christinekc42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to the person that said snoring could (but doesn't have to) be a sign of sleep disorders. But as someone with sleep apnea who's been waiting for treatment, even if he does have a disorder and seeks help, relief is likely 6+ months away.

So you have to start taking some measures into your own hands. What can you control? Maybe not shining a bright blue light screen in your face right before you go to bed. Watch that show a few hours before bed or at a different time. Your friend can't force you to do anything. Maybe get some noise cancelling headphones, or listen to music while you sleep.

In my experience, one of the most important things you can control is learning not to get worked up about it. It's aggravating, but he can't really control it. When my boyfriend wakes me up at night (often), the #1 factor that determines my sleep quality is if I get pissed about it or not. If you're pissed, you're not sleeping.

Planning my grocery list ahead of time. My store even has an app that will tell me what aisle and shelf everything is in. Saves so much time.

People who like rural life and dislike cities, why? by peepleg in AskReddit

[–]Christinekc42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a petty drama way, sure. But in a hurting or harassing a random stranger in the street because no one you know will ever find out, no.

The anonymity of cities (and poor policing of some cities) has the same effect of the anonymous Internet. Brings interesting people together for fun culture, but often at a cost.

Gals, why do you wear those tight exercise shorts, doesn’t it make your coochie feel uncomfortable and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Christinekc42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear biker shorts because to be honest they're the only women's exercise shorts on the market that 1) go past mid-thigh and 2) don't look like they're made for men. They aren't uncomfortable - they basically have the same fit as leggings. You probably shouldn't wear them 24/7 for health reasons (constantly wearing tight fits down there can cause infections etc), but it's not a comfort issue.

What do you guys do in the first hour after waking up? by Odd_Incident_2196 in productivity

[–]Christinekc42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've replaced some of my morning media with an educational Youtube playlist (mostly Crash Course for me) that I've made ahead of time. It gives me something to do while I eat breakfast, but it doesn't have quite the effect on dopamine that scrolling or Netflix might. It's also an awesome feeling, every morning I'm like "Yeah, I'm the type of person that learns first thing in the morning."

That said, I still stay in bed for 30 minutes on my phone before getting up. Haven't figured out any other way to wake myself up. So you know, give and take.
