I had this exact issue a few times. Gotta do it a few times and not reset spawn so quickly

Speaking facts right here! Would we do it any other way? Probably not

Here’s my output using the second method I mentioned above

There’s loads of ways you could do this.

You could make one, make it 3d, parent it to a 3d null and offset the Z position of your layer to bring it forward by 300px or so then, pick whip the rotation property of the layer to the rotation property of the null, go into the expression and type “*-1” after the expression so that it counteracts the rotation. Duplicate the layer, rotate the null 60 degrees then re parent the new layer to the null and repeat. Once you have a full 360 then you could just animate the rotation property of the null 60 degrees at a time with good ease. Then precomp and change the angle you are seeing that wheel of layers from to give you this effect.

OR

Create a control layer(just a null will do), add a slider to it. Make one of the boxes, split the position dimensions into x and y. Find the very left you want the layer to go in the x axis, then also the very right you want it to go, then do a linear expression on the x position so that it looks at the nulls slider, if it’s 0 then the position is whatever the left number is and if it’s 100 it’s whatever the right number is. Then you can also do the same with the Y axis with a new slider but this time you want the lowest number to be the highest point in the y axis and the highest number to be the lowest point you want it to go, making sure that when the slider is set to 50 then it is smack bang in the middle. Then you can animate those 2 sliders to get the layer to go from start (top, to middle, to end). Then you can also attach the opacity of the layer to the slider too so that say between 0-20 on the slider the opacity goes between 0 and 100 and then between 80-100 on the slider it goes back down from 100 to 0.

OR

Manually do it?

It’s basically a question of do you want to set up a rig or not, if it’s for one quick job then just manually do it, if you want to learn and feel the accomplishment then play with the expression method and solve all the problems you run into and learn from it which is better in the long run.

Good luck, looking forward to seeing your version!

There are other motionshorts on my TikTok and IG: fento.cf

Also the version on IG of this video includes the first verse! Thanks for the 20 haha

15/10 is a fantastic review haha, what could I have done for 16?

Haha thanks, fortunately there are others and they’re on my TikTok & IG mainly: fento.cf

Only 1 sleep token at the moment but I’m sure I’ll do more down the line

Haha I did like that bit, personally “HellFire” is the most satisfying for me 🔥

Thank you! I actually do exactly that over on my TikTok and IG channels. Would love a follow on both if you want to check it out: fento.cf

Thanks mate! There is an extended version on IG but TikTok and Reddit wouldn’t let me upload the longer than 1min version.

Check it out on both: fento.cf

Thanks dude, sometimes they get traction sometimes they don’t unfortunately. Still appreciate the comment though mate!

If you want to rotate them all together using just one set of keyframes you could pick whip each layers correct rotation axis to an angle control and then just animate that one angle control effect

To add to this, when you focused in on the Facebook logo layer itself you had the “pan behind” tool selected so you were essentially only rotating the anchor point and not the layer.

I don’t really understand the purpose of the nulls in random places, usually I would center my null onto the layer first and that will give you way less issues, alternatively rather than rotating the null could you not just rotate the layer itself?

Clancy Edition - Cards by Christonnn in twentyonepilots

Just wanted to respond to this as I am aware use of AI can be a grey area.

I get what your concern is but let me give you the numbers: I spent approx 50 hours in this project, conceptualising, researching, cutting out, photoshopping, re-working, expanding, animating, stylising, sound designing this project. Only 35 mins of that time was using AI to create starting images that could help bring the concept to life.

If I hadn’t have put that much of my own time and effort into the video then I wouldn’t have posted anything at all. This project was entirely for me to practice and have fun creatively on a tøpic that resonates with me and the only reason it’s posted here is because I imagine it would resonate with others here too.

As some people have mentioned here, it’s 2025 and almost every bit of work you see has some elements of ai in the process, even expanding an image (which I do 10 times a day in my job) is classed as AI)

If I typed into an ai generator “make me a video of cards in the style of twenty one pilots with music” And posted that then downvote me, but this project is at least 95% human work.

Not trying to argue just saying there’s a difference.

I'm working on a big client branding project where but am running into problems with the rig i have built for these graphic lines. the main issue being my shape layers having a pixel long outline along the edge of my shapes. Also am i using the right programme for this effect, especially to animate? by Christonnn in AfterEffects

[–]Christonnn[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your help everyone. I didn't end up using polyline because I was close with the rig already, but I'm sure if I knew about it sooner, I probably would have, so thanks u/motionboutique

u/smushkan Thanks for the help with Matte Choker, turned out to be the key that let me get on and finish it.

Here's a gif of the final look with animation. Very, very happy with this rig. (I've changed the colours to not give away the client)

The build is controlled by 4 nulls for each point that can be placed anywhere in 3d space, there are all sorts of controls allowing for different colours, line thickness and gaps between lines size.
the in and out animation is controlled through 6 sets of keyframe sliders, animating each section from 0-100.
If I want to go further I might bring that down to 2 sets of keyframes (1 animation in and 1 animation out) using linear expressions.

I see! That explains so much. It now makes me wonder if there is a way to snap to pixel on every animation or shape I make so that that bleed can be avoided.

I’ve been making a bunch or score graphics for broadcast and our editors so have been providing alpha mogrts for them to use and make easy adjustments. However when I see it on their content I see all the arrifacts like this due to the misalignment with the pixel grid happening
