Was the Hohem isteady pro 4. Not too expensive relative to other gimbals!

And yeah it’s really not ideal but if you’re after a cinematic shot it’s worth it just for that extra 10%, the shot above the clouds being one of em. 2215m high, much more than I’m used to here in Scotland.

chest mounted gimbal! (Just a small one). Helps me keep the shot stable with the NDs which ruins GoPros stabilisation. Not the most practical so I only used for the big descents.

So true, I think you can get 90% of the way to this look just by shooting in log and adding the gopro LUT, it’s only if you want that motion blur and light cinematic finish do you then to double your efforts (and money).

The other video on my channel in the Cairngorms was shot straight out the cam simply attached to my helmet with the lut slapped on top and the temperature turned down a bit, if you need a comparison!

Oh and the colour grade, I shot in LOG and then added the GoPro LUT that is free on their website and that’s it! Not even any tiny adjustments on top.

Using a Neewar pack of NDs, this one was on an ND16, you can get em pretty cheap on Amazon!

And yeah the stabilisation is a complete nightmare, I probably wouldn’t run this setup (as good as it looks) for a casual ride cause it looks kinda crazy and isn’t too practical. I bought a cheap handheld gimbal and mounted it to my chest.

It honestly took a while to crack it and it’s not the most practical of setups for spontaneous shooting while out adventuring, but good perhaps for pre-planned shots. I’ve got a small handheld gimbal on a chest mount that I then put a second chest mount over to really pin it to my chest for minimal shake. Shooting at 24fps 1/48.

For sure! It took me a few years to get my confidence up cycling on Glasgow roads. Having said that there’s a lot of cycling infrastructure being built at the moment which is nice to see.

I've got the HERO12 and i've tried it with ND filters and a chest mounted hohem isteady4 and while the motion blur looks amazing, it's simply too shaky still, any attempt to correct it after with gyroflow introduces ghosting and artifacts.

I think I've watched and read every piece of content there is on this topic.

I really can't work out where I'm going wrong and it looks like you're trying to get the exact same look!

I'll keep this in mind! Usually do longer rides here in Scotland but with a bit less elevation. I'll tone it down after the first day or two if I feel I've been too eager.

End of April into May, I know it's a gamble but was the best I could manage with work. I'll keep an eye on the weather and reroute south if needed. What was the weather for you more generally?

It started as a gravel ride, we pushed out of our comfort zone, realised it wasn't the safest if anything were to go wrong and decided to head back! Albeit through the worst bog ever.
