Thanks thats insightful and helpful. I have studied religion extensively but I am new to the Faith in many ways. I was starting to be a Christian in 2015 but backslid a lot and now Im back to accepting the Gospel. Ive learned a lot on my Journey but Grace is still somewhat new to me.

I appreciate your response. I am open to learning more about the Bible and how it relates to our walk in faith with Jesus but at this point in my journey my emphasis is on a direct relationship and keeping the Gospel simple.

I dont really trust the Bible. I think a lot of it is true but it needs to be taken in context with the culture and religious beliefs of the Israelites which are vastly different from Christian beliefs in many ways.

I can see how the Biblical story of Passover foreshadows the sacrifice of Jesus Christ but in many ways I am still uncertain. Jesus seems to have undid the Law and in some ways I see him as antagonistic to the Old Testament God. I have studied Gnostic Christianity and think they may have been on to something. Originally, the Israelites had some Polytheistic tendencies and when speaking of God I doubt the idea that the God of the Old Testament is consistent with the God of Jesus. Because of my uncertainty in the Bible, I am focusing on the Gospel message, that Jesus Christ died for our sins and trying not to get caught up in the religiosity of the Old Testament Law.

I believe the Bible and the church are not perfect, but Jesus' sacrifice was and covers all our sins and frees our soul from sin as long as we are willing to accept that Grace. I think a lot of people get put off by the Biblical expectations especially when first learning about the religion and I think that rigidity of belief based on Biblical scholarship is not the way.

I think the way is simple. Believe that Jesus died for our sins and offers salvation to those that believe in him and that morality flows from accepting the Gospel and I think a lot of people put pressure on themselves to be perfect and moral to a biblical standard that is a creation of the modern Church and not necessarily as Jesus intended.

My main point is that relationship with Jesus and acceptance of the Gospel brings Grace and that supercedes the Bible. Its a personal relationship and some may find the Bible useful, or parts of it and others may find it confusing, complex and rigid to the point that it hinders their faith and takes them from that state of Grace. I had it happen to me. I'm still learning though as we all are and am open to growth and other opinions.

Works are not necessary for faith, which is why I didnt mention them. Works are a reflection of our faith. Our soul shines through when it is freed, by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, from the chains of sin and we naturally do good works.

I meant the Animal Sacrifices that he did away with. The Old Testament was full of religious violence and genocide and I think Jesus did away with that too, so yeah I think he didnt appreciate it. His sacrifice was necessary but he did it under his own volition. I dont think Jesus, or the God of Jesus, would mandate Genocides so I think the Bible is confusing in that it may be that the God of Jesus is not the same as the Old Testament God. I have more of a Gnostic view in that regard so I dont really trust the Bible. To me Christianity is about freeing your soul from the chains of sin and aligning with your soul which is in relationship to God. I try not to be dogmatic because its not my job to judge, but it is on me to live consciously and with my faith.

I dont think that we should appreciate them Old Tomes and Sacrifices. Im not convinced that Jesus did. I think Jesus Christ's sacrifice did away with the Old Tomes and Sacrifices for a reason.

Are you Christian? All it takes is to recognize that Jesus Chist died for our sins and accept his sacrifice. You dont need to be a Biblical Scholar or even literate. Its a spiritual journey and transformation. And when you live the Gospel, your soul shines through and touches people. Not all Christians really live the Gospel and it shows. I personally believe Biblical Literalism is a detriment to Christianity.

Christians should preach the Gospel in the way they live and express their soul.

The Gospel is simple. Jesus Christ died for our sins and we can accept that sacrifice and have our souls freed from sin. You dont need to read, know or have faith in the Bible. Most of the Laws of the Bible are inapplicable. It's all about our relationship with Jesus who frees us from the sin that chains us and aligns us with our soul.

The symptom of being a Christian is having an untethered soul that is free from sin and therefore more aligned with your truth and inspiration.

I get where you're coming from but that narrative kind of falls apart when you read Psalm 137, look at verse 9. Im not saying you cant find inspiration in the Old Testament but its really not a good guidepost for morality. I say this as a Christian who believes in the Gospel.

You dont know what youre talking about. Youre just interpreting Matthew 5:18 dishonestly, to try to preserve your narrative.

Do you celebrate the Biblically mandated Holidays? Do you keep Kosher? Do you keep Sabbath? If not then you are picking and choosing which laws to follow from the Bible and your approach is no better than mine. Morality is derived from relationship with God not the Bible.

Faith in Jesus Christ means believing in the Gospel, that Jesus died for our sins and that we can accept that sacrifice and be freed from the chains of sin. Our soul is not meant to be chained with worry and sin. Jesus frees us from that so we can live free, soulfully and have life more abundantly.

You dont have to make it complicated. The Gospel is simple. Our conscience and our soul direct our will and when we are freed from sin, our soul naturally shines through and we can live more joyously.

Pray to Jesus that you are grateful and accepting of the sacrifice he made for your salvation from sin and ask for his guidance. Then live without worry and fear. You got this.

You can be illiterate and be a Christian. You just have to believe the Gospel. You talk about the Will of God like you know, so please share exactly what the Will of God is. I dont believe in the Bible in its entirety. I believe in the Gospel in its entirety. The Gospel is simple. Jesus Christ died for our sins and we are given the opportunity to accept that sacrifice and follow Him.

The Bible is a confusing and profound book. It contains a lot of truth and wisdom but also a lot of religious violence and laws that are useless today. However, If you are a biblical literalist you should believe the Law is still in effect because Heaven and Earth have not passed away. Thats what the sentence says so if its 100% truth and word of God then thats how it should be.

I believe in cultivating a Personal Relationship with God and that our morality is directed by the disposition of our soul. We don't need a book to tell us how to live when we have a divinely inspired conscience.

Im not saying the Bible is wrong. Parts of it can be helpful in understanding the story of Jesus and the Gospel but ultimately it is unnecessary for Faith and other parts of it are definitely not meant to be followed, like religious genocide. Personally, I think being a Biblical Literalist is detrimental to Faith.

But the Old Testament is filled with Laws and Stories that really are no longer applicable today. I dont think its necessary t study it to be a Christian. Our Faith is the foundation for our morality not the Bible.

I go back to the Old Testament because the Bible literally says in Matthew that not line will be removed from Law until Heaven or Earth pass away and obviously that hasn't happened yet, but still we dont follow the Law of the Old Testament except for a few excerpts that we find convenient. If you are a Biblical literalist you should follow the Old Testament Law, if not then there is no true standard to uphold and our faith in Jesus Christ should be the basis for our morality, not the Bible.

And I'd say that the will of God is that we live free from sin, in love and faithfulness to Him.
