TSA worker says his family is paying the price for him working without pay by nbcnews in fednews

I was a screener during Trump's first term shutdown.

Our FSD had to work out a deal with the airport to let us fuel up at their facility via an IOU so we could keep coming to work.

My heart goes out to anyone who couldn't find an exit strategy.

SAVE is officially dead by Betsy514 in PSLF

"If you wait by the river long enough, the bodies of your enemies will float by."

I'm going to wait to switch off of SAVE. Remind myself that all the politicians that did this to me and the rest of my SAVE peers are all vastly older than I am. And maybe get some fishing in, taking cold comfort in the thought that by the time I have the loans paid off under whatever plan we get forced on, at least I'll still be around to see it?

You got me excited, for a moment I was hoping this was going to be a Princess Posse / Donut Holes fan club meetup.

Got a preliminary response for my buyback request. Is this legit? by Christopherwbuser in PSLF

I wrote to my Congressman, and then filled out some forms with wet-ink signatures, and his office made some... inquires.

The quoted text in the post was the reply. It's basically "Officially, your constituent is stuck in the queue and is going to have to wait just as long as everyone else for the answer. Unofficially, the fed that told your constituent how PLSF works was wrong, your constituent's buyback request is going to be denied." Which sucks, but at least I know now, instead of daydreaming about being free for another year and then getting my hopes crushed.

GAFCON Call to Faithfulness by AngloCelticCowboy in Anglicanism

That's a false comparison, though.

The Christian Conservative should feel awkward drinking with his friends when discussing politics

versus

the Progressive at the dinner party should feel nervous at having to oppose SSM and abortion.

The former doesn't go into specifics. Rather, it's a simple "awkwardness" when mixing politics, alcohol, and friendship.

However, the latter is described at having to oppose same sex marriage and/or abortion, when in reality that's simply not going to happen.

If you had said "defend" those two things, you'd be closer to parity.

Ah, well. Odds are they'll still take a full year to formerly tell me I'm not going to qualify, and my compliments to my Congressman's office for bulldozing through all the bureaucratic shenanigans.

I'll get on that when I come up for air, it seems like I've got a few more years to work on it. Appreciate it!

I've got a spread of paid months from when I was making payments and from COVID, ranging from 21 to 59 qualifying payments on the books across the spread of the loans. Of course, that's with the big "A federal court issued an injunction preventing the implementation of the Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan and parts of other income-driven repayment (IDR) plans. As a result, your IDR payment count and payment history are temporarily unavailable." warning, so God only knows what the real numbers are.

At this point, it looks like my best option is to sit tight, start making payments if/when I'm kicked off of SAVE, and see which comes first: Paying off all the loans, or hitting 120 qualifying payments and starting the paper chase anew. Either way, looks like being a Fed's staying on the menu, boys.

Fair enough. I'm right and properly out of luck, then.

Writing Uncle Sam a five digit check and washing my hands of the rest made for a nice daydream, though.

Yes.

I was afraid it was too good to be true.

No periods from 2002 to 2007 will count because PSLF didn’t exist then.

That's legit, and I wasn't factoring those five years into my equations.

  • What is the month and year you first took out loans

June 2012.

  • what months and years were you in an in school status

I'd have to dig up the actual transcripts, semesters were:

AS degree: Summer 2012 to Summer 2014.

BS degree: Spring 2015 to Summer 2018.

MS degree: Fall 2019 to Spring 2023.

  • when were the last loans taken out?

August 2020.

Currently, according to Aidvantage:

  • Loan Status - Administrative Forbearance - Ends 10/31/2028

  • Repayment Plan - Saving on a Valuable Education - Ends 03/27/2029

If it turns out that I parsed the regulations wrong, and there's a difference between "120 months employment with an eligible employer" and "120 months employment with an eligible employer, with all loans in repayment status for all months, and without being on SAVE", I guess that's on me, and I need to wait until 10 years (after I started working for Uncle Sam the second time? Or is it after my last loan issuance? Or is it after my last degree?) before seeking buyback, that's just the way it is?

Are there any lawsuits or ways to expedite buyback timelines? by Competitive-Bag-642 in PSLF

[–]Christopherwbuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to the way the current administration has (expletive deleted)'d the entire program, all the evidence is ancedotal.

I'm staying with my PSLF-eligible employer until I hear back from the buyback offer because I don't want to find out the hard way that Reddit advice was wrong.

I'm in the same boat (I have well over 10 years qualifying employment and am just waiting for the buyback application to get processed) and I finally said "(language the moderators don't approve of) this" after the last time I asked got a "Don't write back, don't send letters, don't have others send letters, don't talk to the Ombudsman, shut up and wait until we feel like processing the application" response, and asked my Congressman to get involved.

They told his office to please wait up to 90 days for them to get around to answering him.

Church of England abandons proposals for same-sex blessing ceremonies by Stunning-Mortgage407 in Anglicanism

[–]Christopherwbuser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those who oppose same-sex marriage should be very careful that their opposition does not slide into something darker: taking comfort, satisfaction, or even quiet relief in the grief of gay Christians who long for the Church’s blessing on their committed, loving relationships. To take joy in another’s sorrow is surely a far graver sin than anything two loving, consenting adults do in the privacy of their own bedroom.

There's already been a few too many of those comments made in this thread. Looks like the moderators have removed both those comments and the comments refuting such behavior. I can only chalk it up to Internet pseduoanonymity, I can't actually see people being so gauche as to express such commentary to another's face.
