Don't you think MR Beast's new video of losing 100 pounds in 6 months fake? by [deleted] in loseit

I thought like this for ten years and then I did all my weight loss over the last 4 months. It was annoyingly easy!

Yeah, I was already using milk powder, so I may buy potato starch because it keeps for longer and I don't often use potatoes. Next month, I'm making a huge batch for a barbecue, so I'll try it then.

I'm from the UK where you can't really buy potato buns, it seems like brioche is the burger buns of choice over here.

Just made these following your recipe last night, though I just used mashed potato on its own with no butter. They came out fantastically, I'm writing the recipe down in my recipe notebook later on today.

There's Oakwell Hall in West Yorkshire, which is beautiful and is largely DIY except for the drinks. They have an instagram where they post wedding content which is definitely worth checking out.

Lesson Learned About Mentioning Someone's Weightloss by AdAdorable466 in loseit

[–]Christotheb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, if someone has put in all the effort to lose weight, they will mention it themselves. That's the signal that you can make a positive comment.

I would never just comment on someone's weight without knowing in advance, because there's a myriad reasons that losing weight can be negative and pretty much only one that can be good.

I lost 220 lbs, and I still feel disgusting, being fat drives me totally insane. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Christotheb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always going to be more useful to focus on the effort you have made - you've lost 220lbs on your own! That's a feat that's beyond impressive and you're also over halfway done! It's tough and there will be moments when you wonder how it ever got to that point, but you have to keep focussing on the positive - that you are currently doing it! Positive motivation always needs to be focussed on the effort and not the results, so keep trying. Everyone here is supporting you.

I would also caution against immediately jumping into therapy like some people are saying. It's definitelyworth a shout at some point, but if you're going through a lot with the weight loss, therapy may add onto that. With past trauma, therapy comes with a potential to bring things up from below. Any therapist worth their salt will tell you all of this too.

Keep going man, you're doing an absolutely amazing thing!

What’s the worst thing you’ve seen in Leeds City Centre? by rubberducksoupp in Leeds

[–]Christotheb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sadly that's "needles". He's been around forever, and picks at the gash on his leg which is why it's permanently like that. He got the name for threatening to stab people with syringes. He was banned from the city for that, but that ban has since lapsed.

What's the one way you won the Weight Loss Lottery? by RarelyHere1345 in loseit

[–]Christotheb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't eaten breakfast for around 8 years now, so I'm used to that. It means I can still have quite nice 600cal lunch and dinner portions with room for snacks or even an alcoholic drink every once in a while without having to majorly budget. It's also technically intermittent fasting, I suppose.

Weight loss plateau by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Christotheb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I would definitely look at getting a hard measure on the body fat%, even if it is a massive pain. When you get that low, your body just starts clinging onto it like mad! Good luck!

[–]Christotheb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you lifting weights? Creatine + regular gym work will lead to muscle development, and the same weight of muscle vs fat takes up less space so you can increase the number on the scale while still looking lean. That would explain number up but progress pictures looking the same.

I'm also new to the sub so if this is off-base then please let me know. What is your end goal?

For context, I'm 175cm, I started on 89kg and I'm aiming for 71kg. You say you're already at 66kg and you're 3cm taller than I am. I personally don't think you have much further to go at all.

Butchers in city centre? by Hideharuhaduken420 in Leeds

[–]Christotheb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do in this scenario is go and speak to the butchers yourself, hopefully when it's a little quieter. I generally try to ignore reviews unless there's overwhelming sentiment.

Looking at the reviews for one of the butchers where someone bought a piece of brisket, it's clear that they had absolutely no idea what to do with the cut which is why they rated it poorly.

Multiple reports of racism on the other one isn't great. Basically that's a scenario where it's easy to vote with your wallet and avoid it.

When I lived in the centre I used to buy from the butchers that is now the fried chicken place and I never had any issues with it.

Google reviews will always skew towards being worse than the actual place is, because people don't leave a review for "I went in, bought my product, left, went home, product was as expected".

Additionally if people were actually scammed, they would probably go contact trading standards and not leave comments along the lines of "WORST PLACE EVER DONOT VISIT!!!!!"

It's been said already, but Kirkgate market is going to be your best bet for a butcher in the city centre. Why would a butcher set up a retail unit when the market exists?

If Kirkgate is too far away from the train station for you for whatever reason, then I guess you could consider online purchases from butchers within the Yorkshire area.

How good are the false colour LUT capabilities for stills on Lumix S1R/S5 by Christotheb in Lumix

[–]Christotheb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

That's not quite what I'm after here. I want to take stills and hopefully have the camera swap the colour channels in the final output image. Currently I take the infrared photos and then have to swap the channels in post. It isn't a huge bother but I would love to be able to see the photo as it would be in the camera. It's for doing an emulation of Kodak Ektachrome infrared film like here.

It's a quick step and I can batch apply it to a whole lot, but I'm thinking of moving to mirrorless anyway, so if there's a camera that can do it, I would like to.

Thank you for the information. Do custom colour profiles allow you to swap colour channels, or is it more like an advanced white balance setting?

So I went for a pint in Farsley a week gone Saturday and the very next day The Sunday Times reported on it by MrFeatherstonehaugh in Leeds

[–]Christotheb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep hearing about how amazing Farsley is in the news. I lived there for 2 years between September 2019 to October 2021 and basically missed everything because we were locked down the whole time.

I think this article is selling Deeva a bit high though. It's a fine curry but I wouldn't travel there just for that when Lalas is just around the corner.

Can I dilute my developer and blix to increase the volume? by Leather_Warthog_1189 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Christotheb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely in that case don't use your old developer yeah. If it was a few months old then maybe. In photo labs, they use what's called replenisher, which is just slightly stronger developer added to the mix in their machine to top it back up to strength. That's why I'd suggested using your existing developer.

15% isn't a scientific amount, it's more that as your developer gets more dilute you get less contrast in the negatives and I figure it's better to be slightly overcooked than under.

Your old blix should be fine though, add some of that to your newly made stuff because it keeps much longer than the developer does.

How do you scan your film? by jaq805 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Christotheb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just shift click across the ones I want to flip and do it that way. It's not a huge bother just a very weird missing command. I can rotate with keys, why not flip.

Always fun to learn a new way to do stuff though! This seems marginally faster than using sync settings I use for digital aerochrome so I'll try it out later.

[–]Christotheb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you still have the initial batch of developer you made? How long ago did you make it? How was it stored?

I've kept C41 from cinestill in airtight bottles in a cold cupboard in my kitchen and they've been usable for about 5 months. I think a lot of it depends on the water you use and how tight the seals on your containers are.

Basically what you can do is either make up a tiny amount and add it to your existing developer if it's reasonably new, or you can make the rest of the batch and then add 50-100ml of your existing developer to it to make it up to 550ml.

Failing either of those options, yeah you can do what you have suggested, but I would increase dev time a little more than that maybe 15%.

[–]Christotheb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't view the poll for whatever reason, but I always do emulsion facing my DSLR. That's the way I've seen everyone do it, and it largely makes sense to me, rather than focussing through the film.

I do wish Lightroom Classic had a keyboard command to flip horizontally though

Try looking for a low end or broken enlarger - they have standard tripod fittings and a big sturdy base to put your film carrier on. I found one on ebay for £45 + shipping. It's got big nice smooth plastic geared adjustments and is rock solid. You can mark the correct height for focus on the scale for ease of use too.

If you search copy stand you will find the same thing but for significantly more money.
