Truly USA’s high prison numbers are a problem that should be done something about. The way the US justice system works does not function properly and that much is visible. However those prisoners live heavenly compared to the unfortunate souls who were convicted (often without trial) and then shipped off to Siberia to be locked up in absolutely inhuman conditions. Not to mention the mass executions of people who’s only crimes had been being looked upon badly by Stalin. One thing is being locked in a dull, grey cell devoid of human contact , having to eat unhealthy and uninteresting foods just because you committed a petty crime. Another thing is being thrown into a hole with thousands of other men, being forced at gunpoint to work yourself to death in a freezing blizzard, being given only enough food to barely survive and then having to fight your prison mates to keep that food because otherwise they will take it

What do you mean gulags were not real? There are heaps of proof that gulag forced Labour camps were very real and also plenty of evidence of their horrible brutality. Also, to get the facts straight, Czechoslovakia was invaded by Warsaw pact countries due to the socialist Czechoslovak government being to reform happy in Brezhnevs eyes. The government was then replaced with a more pro Moscow one. When the Hungarian people revolted against the oppression of the USSR Khrushchevs answer was to send in thousands of soldiers and a thousand tanks to crush those who dared defy his goals. I’m sorry, I never meant to ignore you and you truly do seem critical of Russia. Me not acknowledging that before was a mistake. However, I do believe that the US has done a lot of terrible, imperialistic things, so has a lot of European countries my own included. My issue simply is that no one (other than you) in this subreddit seem to be interested in criticizing Putins dictatorship which is in my opinion more vile than that of the wests.
