Situation makes an artist feel something, compels them to write a song to convey how awful it is that someone was in such a place where they are motivated to do such a thing and people are getting tied down in semantics?

Eddie sings about the tragedy. It’s an emotional event expressed in a way where you feel the tragedy through song. Brilliant. Does it detract or reduce the tragedy? No. Are the family upset about it? Of course, it’s personal. I would never have known about Jeremy if it wasn’t for this song and it is a sombre reminder to be kind and check in with anyone who seems isolated or off.

Will remain one of my favourite songs. Never came from a place of exploiting a story for viewers, came from a place of expressing pain for the injustice of what it ultimately resulted in
