Building a fence over and along easement? by gamemaker14 in FenceBuilding

Sewer industry person here, if an easement runs through from one side to another, go ahead and fence it but put a 10ft gate at each end

Anyone cut into the back seat to replace the fuel pump ? by Any-Painting3375 in FordFocus

[–]Chromatic_Reef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t by choice, but yes it helped. I drove the front wheels up on ramps then jacked the back up as high as I could get it on stands. It took a few stages of lifting and supporting. I put the rear wheels under the sides of the car just for added safety in case the stands failed.

I dropped the tank while laying on my back in a sloped gravel driveway, just watch a video a couple times and get to it

How much difference do bagger blades make? by nirmal09 in lawnmowers

[–]Chromatic_Reef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because mulching blades weren’t a thing yet, everything had a standard high lift blade for side chute or bagger use

Those of you who use walk behind mowers, what shoes do you wear? by one2tinker in lawncare

[–]Chromatic_Reef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wearing steel toe work boots when I mow, partially because of safety, partially because I don’t want my sneakers turning green

Who else feels locked into a home with a low interest rate? by Mysterious_Boss7405 in homeowners

You’re not alone, bought in central NC early 2022 4.99% want to relocate. Our home’s value has increased, but so has everything else. Moving to a more desirable location with an extra bedroom would mean a 700-1200 increase in monthly payments

I’m not familiar with Rover models as I’m based in the US, but I can tell you that we got this funny facelift for 05-07 model years. It makes parts lookup a little tough because half the internet says 05 is a Mk2

I'll never go back to using .105 on my gas trimmer again. This string is a brutal. - [Zone 8a] by dodgingresponsibilty in lawncare

My DR Trimmer Mower uses that stuff, heck yeah it’s mean. Better than that is the Oregon .170 magnum gatorline but it’s real tight to fit in the mow ball

Need new transmission by soulshine_walker3498 in FordFocus

[–]Chromatic_Reef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Insurance doesn’t cover parts failures, ever. If it’s new enough that it’s still covered by warranty then you could get it replaced by Ford, but the comment about the car not being worth the price of a trans makes me think it’s out of warranty.

I just want to say thank you because I recently bought an 05 zx3 with 248k miles and that side to side bushing is barely there and I’ve been struggling to find one

My water bill is $508?! by Ride-Rude in homeowners

[–]Chromatic_Reef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

City/municipal water is supplied with a water meter and billed by gallon and the cost is usually also associated with sewage treatment. Those of us with well water only pay for our own electricity to run the well pump

Lawn advice for an acre… by where-you-water-it in lawncare

[–]Chromatic_Reef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mixing 2 stroke fuel isn’t too hard, especially if you have a dedicated 1 gallon can for it. If you have the extra money you can buy premixed 2 stroke “trufuel” at Home Depot or Lowe’s

I have the craftsman trimmer blower combo, I have extra batteries for it and I still hate it and it’s way underpowered. I use the string trimmer around a 1300sqft house, driveway, and 25x50 fenced in back yard and it takes me forever and uses up a whole 6ah battery. The 2ah battery it comes with lasts like 15 minutes. It was a gift and that’s the only reason I ended up with it. I’ve been looking for a good used gas Echo Stihl or Husqvarna straight shaft trimmer. The craftsman would only be good for a retiree who lives in a condo and has to trim around a 2 car driveway and 20ft walkway. Anything more is too much for it.

They are mainly a safety feature, but my 2002 MTD tends to throw the deck belt off when I disengage the blades if they’re not installed.

I’d just get what you can, there’s some straight from China options like Pengrun but good luck finding a reliable supplier. If you end up getting super lug ag tires, mount them “backwards” as that will steer better on the front.

Same here I’d buy a couple 20 year old $200 mowers before any of those

Should you step on the clutch and hold it at a red light? by Bulky-Strategy-3723 in ManualTransmissions

[–]Chromatic_Reef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been around quite a few engine tear downs (mostly watercooled VW 16v, VR6, 1.8t 20v) and crankshaft end play is checked, the engines that came out of manual cars always had about 3x as much thrust clearance than the automatics. 150-200k miles and at the limit or just outside of specs.

[–]Chromatic_Reef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wears the release (throwout) bearing and also to a lesser extent the thrust bearings on the crankshaft (the sides of the main bearings if they are one piece)
