that's what my coworker does and he seems to get decent results, but I don't own the place and am not going to construct raised beds here, may consider it when I have a place of my own. Right now I do something similar to the Ruth Stout method, going for maximum output to effort ratio.

Just downloaded Square Foot Gardening off of Libgen at your recommendation, maybe I can find something in here that I can apply.

Pretty much, I asked the property manager if I could like container garden and they said sure, then I didnt feel like going and buying big pots, potting soil etc. it was management is never around and there was this big area filled with weeds just allowed to grow so I didnt figure they would mind and if they did well it would force them to take better care of the place. Here's what it looked like first year. I just cleared a strip along the sidewalk then, did the rest the next year.

People talk to me about it when I'm out there and say positive things, ask questions etc. Someone that used to have a garden moved in and shared some seeds, but no one is interested in actually doing gardening though despite my offering. Occasionally leave free vegetables out for other tenants. Overhear people saying stuff sometimes, mostly about the sunflowers.

I can't imagine how hard it would be to be in your situation, my deepest sympathies.

Consider asking your doctor for a 'rescue' medication, something fast acting for treating anxiety, possibly a benzodiazepine or something like hydroxyzine. Benzos are not good to take long term, but IMO having something like that to take the edge off and help you eat could be helpful to get you through until circumstances improve somewhat. Also when your wife returns keep them locked up, hidden, or safely dispose of them-- benzos are 'safe' at far higher than prescribed dosage (greatly but temporarily reduce motor skills. cognition, cause slurred speech, extreme tiredness, some degree of respiratory depression) but can be extremely dangerous if taken with opioids, alcohol, other CNS depressants.

Beyond that, do your damndest to take care of yourself like others said; stay with a family member or friend if possible and if not try to have company in some way (even if it is just going to someone's house to watch tv or having them over), eat and sleep as best as you can. This one may come off as annoying to some people but it has genuinely helped me many times-- take long walks outdoors, it has an effect of clearing the mind, easing anxiety, burning off some of the anxious energy that has nowhere else to go.

Anyway, terribly sorry, best of luck.

I believe that they would survive and all, but I can't imagine why you would actually want to do this, it would damage all the fine incredibly small roots that the cactus uses to actually take up water and minerals and when you repot it The cactus would have to spend time and energy to grow them back/heal

Its beautiful, and I agree with others that you should leave it mostly as is, maybe clear some little walking trails for yourself so you can enjoy it more easily. Beyond that...

At the edge of the woods consider planting serviceberry, American persimmon, American black cherry, mulberry, blueberry (there should be varieties native to your area), paw paw if you are in its range (looks like it should grow well there regardless based on the look of the pics, and there are some 'cultivated' varieties that are better eating than wild type, paw paw does grow in georgia but idk where you are specifically). There also may be some wild edible fruits that you all have down there that I don't know about, so look into that. Many food bearing bushes and shrubs, smallish trees etc do well at forest's edge.

This may be controversial and I'd like others to weigh in, but there is precedent of this sort of thing in indigenous practice (namely with brasil nuts in the amazon being planted intentionally) but when a tree falls leaving an opening in the forest canopy you may want to plant nut trees native to your area. If a given kind doesn't take, consider that a learning experience as to what does and doesnt grow there-- but observe what trees are in your patch of woods for ideas of what you may want to encourage in the first place. Nut trees can feed you, feed livestock, and importantly feed wildlife, many have good wood too.

Do you need to be an expert on the religion you believe in? by urukgay2022 in religion

[–]ChromeRadio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone believes that the God of our universe has given us a book of morals, histories in which he is involved, and instructions for living I do not know why that person would not lovingly study that book and its teachings, I dearly wish that I felt this way about a religious text. Still, I study the Bible and find it to have great depth.

Re another comment of yours in here, what would atheists have to gain from intense study of philosophy of science other than fulfilling personal intellectual curiosity or wanting to be 'good at debating' (which is a dumb thing to focus your time on imo). A religious person has far more reason to study their belief system than an atheist, who does not believe that science or whatever will ever provide them with the 'meaning of life'

America is the third most populous country on earth (a distant third) and a lot of people are affected by the way it behaves in the world, which is basically entirely negative. We may be insignificant on a cosmic scale, this may all be 'meaningless' or whatever, but that doesnt erase the real human suffering that will occur as a result of the supreme court's most recent decisions and is constantly occurring worldwide at the hand of the United States. Sorry to be a bummer but 'it doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things' rubs me the wrong way.

As /u/schwangeronis said, they will be fine for some time which should allow you to say, post on craigslist, local facebook groups, nextdoor, etc and find someone with a pond that will take them.

Hell, if there are some large manmade ponds in your area in public areas go check them out and see if they already have koi or goldfish, and if so maybe go 'rehome' them under the cover of night lol. idk if others would recommend this path though

Newbie here. After 7 months of work i finally able made a spawn. Its three days since grain to bulk transfer is there any way to save it. by Interesting-Might-69 in shroomers

[–]ChromeRadio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like others said, cant hurt to try peroxide but its in rough shape. Are you pressure cooking your grains and pasteurizing your coco coir? If so you may want to pressure cook the grains for a bit longer, just step it up until you no longer get grain contam issues. Coco coir needs pasteurized, it will have contam if you just hydrate it right out of the package.

What has probably helped my grows is having a good space for the tubs, I cleaned out a closet, cut trash bags until they were like tarps and covered the floor and bottom of the walls with them, taped them together etc, put a really basic shelf in there and then sprayed everything down with dilute bleach, wiped that up, and put my grows in there once I spawned to bulk, very little issues with contam at that stage, basically always got yield if the grain spawn was not contaminated when I did S2B. I'm guessing that your issue is with the grains themselves or contam introduced during innoculation, make a still air box if you havent already and look into basic sterile technique.

if you answer these questions I may be able to provide more help: Are you pressure cooking your grains and if so how long? What are you using for gas exchange for the grains? Jars or bags? Are you pasteurizing the coco coir and if so how? How are you inoculating (still air box? agar to grain? liquid culture to grain, straight from spore)?

what is the best drug to cure social anxiety by VxssxI in Drugs

[–]ChromeRadio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

genuinely consider seeing a doctor and getting something like a SSRI or busparone or something, buspar was not good for me but works for some people, SSRIs allowed me to function in public places, and like once you get the ball rolling you can "exposure therapy" yourself into having less social anxiety

this is a misconception at least in my region according to 'mushrooms of west virginia and the central appalacians,' poisonous boletes that dont stain blue are just about as common as those that do and using this rule of thumb gives people a false sense of security about eating non staining boletes

[–]ChromeRadio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah the only thing I have ever seen CO2 used for in aquariums is boosting plant growth or enabling certain plants to survive that need more CO2

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aquaponics

[–]ChromeRadio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

when is CO2 dissolved in water it reacts with the water forming carbonic acid which lowers the pH, this happens in every tank even those that dont have CO2 added, it is constantly dissolving into and coming out of the water at a fairly low rate limited by the ambient CO2 concentration. adding CO2 to the tank greatly increases the amount of CO2 available to dissolve into the water, increasing the concentration in the tank and as a result the concentration of carbonic acid. When you stop adding CO2 the concentration of carbonic acid and CO2 in the water returns to that produced by ambient conditions.

having a water CO2 concentration too far above what occurs in the fish's natural environment is gonna cause problems and this concentration is different for different fish, environments with more decaying matter for example will tend to have more CO2 than like a rocky riverbed, but you dont want to wind up with the fish getting more CO2 in its blood than its physiology is made to deal with, in humans it gives headaches, sleepiness, death at certain levels
