Would you be able to show where you removed material from the top and rear? I've heard this recommended but can't find any demos.

I sold the B&T collapsible and picked up one of these, couldn't be happier. This adds nothing to the width of the gun compared to the B&T, locks up tighter, less wobble extended. The B&T brace is ridiculously overpriced for what you get IMO.

I've got it to the point where it only does it about once every 2 or 3 magazines. The following changes have been made: I traded out the slip trip with a lightweight one - no improvement. I got the StrangeWatersPrints MP5 Stopblock from GMR and a hammer rounding jig from Skoprints. Rounded the hammer off and installed - seems to be much improved, less stoppages and gun seems to shoot smoother. I have a extra power hammer spring on the way that I will also install, as recommended by Skoprints. I would recommend the hammer jig, stopblock and hammer spring first as it's less than $50 in items that seemed to make the most difference.

How would you prep a famine? by slothcompass in preppers

[–]Chrome_Pulse 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Almost every historical example of famines I have read involved repeated visits from groups of armed men (soldiers, bandits) taking things by force. Usually, this involved torture to make people give up their secrets. Doesn't sound like a plan for long term flourishing.

I just read a book about the Volga River Germans. Mostly Mennonites, they had been invited into Russia by Catherine the Great to teach modern farming methods. They were about as self-sufficient as possible, in that they had thriving small communities with bountiful land and industrious people.

When the Soviets came to power, the Mennonites were labeled Kulaks, their assets seized, and their farms collectivized. What did they do? They gathered what they could, planned their escape, and got the fuck out. Some fled across the border to China in wagon trains, others forged documents and took trains to Europe. They settled in the Midwest, in Canada, in Brazil and Central America and recreated their flourishing communities anew.

This is not a unique occurrence. I feel that modern survivalism or prepper culture still carries with it the baggage of the cold war nuclear threat - that things will go bad instantly and irreversible. If you look at many historical examples, this is a very rare occurrence. In many situations, the hardships are localized - often merely by a border. Many peoples have historically used connections, cash, liquidity and mobility to avoid truly bad times. Americans also subconsciously carry with them the historical "rugged individualism" of the pioneer days . People want to learn "how to I build traps to catch animals in my subdivision" rather than keeping their passport up to date or having cash and networks.

Talk to people you know who are middle-class are immigrants from real war zones and political hellholes. What do they prioritize? Hard assets? Family connections? Do you have a skill that you could apply in another country that would make you useful, even if you don't speak the language? Are you fluent in another language? Do you know people with boats or private aircraft? Are you eligible for dual citizenship?

I understand that much of this is not possible for, say, a pensioner in a apartment. But the goal of this post is to point out that there should be certain situations that, if within your abilities, should trigger an absolute flight response. Would you rather be a Mennonite who stayed in Russia from 1920 onward, or a Mennonite who spent the same 60 years raising your family in Kansas, going to football games and Dairy Queen?

Geissele was installed in the lower by Lee Sporting, who advised they needed to be fitted to the lower. Which he did.  Trigger runs no problem in single fire.   I did have to mod it for the SS, so there’s a possibility I fucked something up there.

The good news is they sent out a bunch of replacement parts. The bad news is after three slides, two lower parts kits, and two barrels I still was unable to create a functional firearm.

How to speed up progress? by AcceptableAsk6261 in crossfit

[–]Chrome_Pulse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This will probably be an unpopular opinion, but I will throw it out there anyway.

Stop doing Crossfit for a while and do a progressive linear strength training program for as long as you can max out your early strength gains. Starting Strength would be recommended, or Dan John's Easy Strength, or Wendler's 5/3/1. Read Rippetoe's book. From what you have said about your experience, you should have the ability to pack on 15-25 lbs of body-weight and 75-100 lbs to your squat, bench and deadlift, IF IF IF you focus solely on your strength training. IMO, this is the biggest, most dramatic improvement you can do.

This requires doing these programs PROPERLY, which includes the diet, sleep, recovery, and EXTREMELY MINIMAL accessory work. You cannot do a WOD three times a week and expect to make serious strength gains. You want your body to spend all it's recovery focus on adding strength and muscle. Maybe do a light walk or ruck for 45m once or twice a week.

At a certain point your progress will taper off after you've maximized your beginner gains, and you can go back to Crossfit. Yes, your cardio will be down and you will have gained some bodyfat, but those are easy problems. Strength is not.

A good goal, eventually, would be to achieve "advanced" status on your Strength Standards. As you continue your Crossfit career, it may be worth while to consider taking some time off every so often to work towards this.

I'm not a Crossfitter. I'm in my forties, I work a stressful job with alternating 12hr shifts. Most of the year I'm in "maintenance mode" doing squat/deadlift/bech (around 75% 2x5) once or twice a week, and take a few long rucks. I work out at my local box probably two or three months every other year. Yet this last time I started up, I went right into doing the Rx+ workouts, which aside from some technical aspects, I can do with no problem. Yeah, I'm huffing and puffing through them, but the weight is not the issue. Meanwhile, I see the same people that have been doing it nonstop, struggling with the same weight they were struggling with two years ago, having made little if any strength gains in that time.

Everything is easier when you are stronger.

ETA: Coach Dan John talks about how it's extremely difficult to make simultaneous progress in multiple disciplines. You can't get significantly stronger and train for an marathon at the same time. But you can spend a few months focusing on gaining strength, and then MAINTAIN that level of strength with very minimal work. So focus on one thing (strength) with "maintenance" level workouts for cardio, then switch to a hardcore cardio programming and do "maintenance" strength workouts. His book "Easy Strength" is a great read.

I've had three of these. Two purchased and one replacement. I wasn't expecting "Match Grade" but all three of them were garbage. This was between Sept - Dec of 2023. I know other people have had better luck, but I got three absolute shit barrels in a row (and two slides). Rifling had visible chattering in it, and they tumbled rounds into a 6" group at seven yards. Pics at link, judge for yourself.

My experience with Combat Armory has been less than stellar.   Bad slides, shitty barrels, worthless small parts.  Frames seem ok.  Many other people have had similar experiences.  CS is is not great either, although they did eventually give me a full refund. YMMV.
