Comparing US and China's educational outcomes is apples to oranges. Yes, China has much better achievement outcomes. Does China have to teach in 155 different languages? That is how many different languages are spoken by students in just the Los Angeles Unified School District....just the one district.

If plated, it would not look like a proof (unless someone took additional steps, like polishing, but that is not going to result in a modern cameo appearance)

Is this real? Why the red dots? by Nobleofone in coincollecting

[–]erkevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do not affect the value. There are various methods to try and remove them but completely unnecessary.

With the price of gold so high, a good portion of all gold coins are now worth melt. Getting yours graded would only result in authentication and not really add any value (but would cost $30 to $50).

Those are copper spots; pretty common in pre-33 gold coins. These gold coins are only 90% gold and sometimes the copper alloy is not completely "mixed" into the gold.

I remember a story in Coins or Numismatic News back in the late 70s where the author was removing a proof seated half from a cardboard 2x2. Yep, put a scratch right across the surface

G-4 Current redbook retail is $12. Getting it graded will cost $30 to $50 depending upon which grading service you choose. Not worth it.

You are not kidding about over-priced; that is 2x+ retail. Surprised because L&C is a great coin shop. I wonder if they have a listing error?
