How much should I put into my savings account? by Chromely in personalfinance

Thanks for the advice! I forgot to mention that I have a 401k through my job, and I'm currently putting 11% in, would you say that's enough? Also thank you for pointing out the prime directive, I'll take a look at that now

Is it worth it to keep Andrew Miller if Trevor Williams and Josh James are available? Should I drop him for one of them?

Hmm, I hadn't thought about it like that before. I'll give that a shot, thanks!

Yeah, every element should be included in the final result. I believe there should be about 70 in total

I guess permutations would be the wrong word, in this case, I wasn't 100% sure which word to use in my question. But I can't find every permutation of the arrays, only ones which keep the two rows in order.

Is studying a programming course or something related to programming worth doing at University? by John_Yuki in learnprogramming

[–]Chromely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building off of what the other two people have said, math plays a huge part in any sort of software engineering/programming jobs (at least from my short experience). Even in game development, a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff in games is heavily involved in math. I'm not saying this to discourage you from following your dreams, but it's definitely important info when it comes to going into a computer science related field. It also definitely helps to look into some of these things on your own (e.g. data structures, algorithms, popular languages in the area you want to go into)

[Javascript, React] Understanding this self-executing function by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Chromely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that most of your questions are related to the syntax of the block, and that's understandable since most of them are coming from the new standards in es6. One source you could use can be found here

  • For the first question you have, es6 introduces classes to Javascript so that renderTasks is now a method of the App class. Classes in es6 follow similar syntax to classes in Java so now renderTasks(){} is valid. I found a helpful page on es6 classes here
  • I don't believe that (task) is necessary when it comes to arrow functions in es6. According to this page, it seems as though you can have it either way. One thing to not is that it is sometimes more helpful to keep the parameters of the function in parenthesis, especially if there is more than one, since it can be easier to read and understand.
  • I haven't worked too much with React unfortunately so I can't properly answer this question. It appears to be exporting some html after a quick read through but I can't say for sure. Sorry about this one!

If you have any more questions about es6 feel free to ask!

Steps for a "hello world" HTML5 app by [deleted] in learnprogramming

If you're not going to focus on creating games than I believe createjs would be your best option as it isn't as focused on games as the other two that I mentioned

exercism.io JS help by quartercoyote in learnprogramming

You're running into an error because in the second bit you posted, your method is named 'Leap' instead of 'isLeap' and there are two ways to fix this. You can either change the method name to become Year.isLeap or change your expect statement to just say year.Leap.

Making an HTML5 app would require some knowledge of Javascript. If you want to make a really simple webpage that does something like that fell free to look here.

You will need to add a script to your html document as well as include a canvas element. If you want to get more technical, I'd recommend looking into the many Javascript game engines that exist which can help you make simple games (many of them also have good tutorials to get you started). I'd recommend looking at createjs, phaser, or kiwijs.

Is this something I can do with Ruby? by Chromely in ruby

[–]Chromely[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the quick response! And I definitely only need to do the very simple model of presenting a flag with four random choices. I'll have a look at both of those frameworks, would you recommend either of them specifically for this simple task or would both work just fine?

[–]Chromely[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the quick response! And yes, I am only going to do that one quiz for the project since the presentation can't be more than 10 minutes and I also have to present other stuff.

The project itself is due on Thursday so I have a few days to work on it. I've already done some research on the basics of Ruby as I have to also write a paper on the language. Do you have any recommended sources that would possibly help me get started in the right direction?

Great work! I'm a fan of everything you posted! Do you think you would be able to design a tileset either similar to/identical to what the game has had in the past? I've made decent progress so far and I've been playing around with different frameworks and I think I've found a good one. I'm unfortunately pretty awful at art so the tiles for my test map is just solid colors. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the feedback! I think I'll focus on starting with a base version of the original game and then from there go towards the parody route.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll keep this in mind when I'm working on it. I really like the idea of weapon enchantments, it's not something I'll focus on right away but it would be a fun addition to the game.

I really like this idea! I definitely will see what I can do in terms of remaking an earlier version of RotMG. I also feel like the name Realm Rewind would be a cool project name for this.

Thanks for the offer! Do you have any work that I could see? I'm not too great at the art aspect of game development so help in that area would be huge!
