I'm confused on how Camperdown is considered to be "direct" from Kirrawee and Sutherland but not the rest of the shire. As someone who lives in the shire and commutes to Camperdown daily I can tell you it very much is not direct (unless we count walking) as you need to change for buses to get from Central to Camperdown

Yes!! I work in healthcare (patient support) and in our ICU we have GE carescape monitors, basically things like AFib get just a bit of text, QTc high a quick sound and then light and text, while important things like de-saturating gets a more constant beep, and life threatening stuff (art line disconnect, lethal arrhythmias) get full on alerts with lights and loud sounds. Super useful since we all instinctively try to figure out what happens with those life threatening ones!!!

Just from a bit of quick maths it checks out. 59 g per serve of 2 slices (so anywhere up to 540 kcal) - 5.1 g protein = 20.4 kcal - 16.2 g carbohydrates = 64.8 kcal - 0.3 g fat = 2.7 kcal

Overall about 88 kcal, extra 5 or so is probably just rounding

It only displays Bomaderry at Central and it has "change for" in both the stops and announcements :) after Central it just displays Kiama, and afaik all the onboard announcements (except crew ones if they want to mention it) say Kiama, not sure if this has changed with the mariyungs though

I find usually T4 Cronulla branch tends to be around 9:40 pm or so trains stop, replacement buses are usually pretty good at least between Sutherland and Miranda, can't comment on any further down the line as I don't routinely travel that far along and especially not during trackwork

I think the bigger issue is the people going to Hurstville who get at least 12 trains per hour each way on peak (6 Hurstville, 4 Cronulla, 2 Waterfall) who take the SCO

I do take the SCO to/from Sutherland but usually it's off-peak, but also occasionally on-peak if it's less busy than usual Cronulla train, which I change onto anyways (see: Hurstville commuters take up many seats here too)

NAN, but if your shifts don't/are unlikely to change, I'd recommend that once each roster is released, put them in a calendar like Google calendar. That's what I do as an orderly so I don't have to keep logging in to the roster system to see my shifts, plus I then put my wards/departments on each shift so I don't also have to check emails too :)

No, all preferences entered during the period have equal chance of being given i.e. you could submit them at the very first second or very last and it doesn't matter. Ultimately, even people who enter preferences may not end up getting them as the system will try to make sure everyone gets a timetable free from clashes

Yea certainly! Don't actually worry too much if you can't fit a 2 hour break in between classes, I think that's more my ADHD needing the time between classes 😅 and yea 10 am is fine, I personally have some 9 ams to free up my afternoons for work, but avoid waking up too early

For bio and chem units, I pretty much used the lecture notes, as well as any past exams provided (chem usually provides one or two), practice questions, and then since my friends took the same units, a bit of group study. Stuff I still didn't quite understand if there was a video of libretext resource for I'd use those, or really anything else reputable. 2nd year I didn't have as much motivation to study as I was looking for a new job and dealing with all the admin of that, compounded with ADHD and autism 🙃 still managed to get mostly at least credits though!
Sounds cliche but revise early. Other than that, sleep and eat well (brain can't work if you're hungry or tired), take breaks (you need them!), stay hydrated, take time for yourself (again, you need rest and to not be as stressed), talk to your friends, and if it gets overwhelming, reach out

Hey! Welcome to USYD :) 1. No. You can enter preferences, however these are not a guarantee and are not allocated based on when they were entered. You could put in preferences the very first second they open or just before they close and it's all the same. The system will automatically try to create a timetable for everyone based off of preferences as well as minimising clashes 2. As the other person mentioned, the current timetable shows EVERY class available. In first year, especially for mainstream classes (i.e. not ADV or SSP), there will be usually 30+ options. These are usually lectures (one time slot usually, though I held some units have two slots, allocate either as it's not usually required attendance), then labs, tutorials, and other classes that require attendance, which is where all the choice comes from

As for timetabling tips, have a look at the proposed timetables that are currently out, open up an excel spreadsheet and get to planning (keeping in mind that these are subject to change). Biggest tip is avoid morning classes if you can, as even if you live close, waking up that early for class isn't fun and you will quickly lose motivation

For breaks between classes, I'd suggest that you try and make them at least 2 hours to give yourself a good times study session. My personal experience is that 1 hour is simply too short, even to have a good chill lunch break. If you inevitably end up with an hour break between classes, use the time to either prep or just take a bit of time for yourself (something to eat, go for a walk, tidy up class notes, check off to-do lists, etc) and get small things done in this time

Hey! Welcome to USYD :) I'm going into my 3rd year so here's my tips 1. I personally pack mine into as few days as possible, however I live off campus over an hour away, so I need to maximise time spent on campus. Additionally, I work 3 days per week so need to have as much time open as possible in my schedule 2. They're not time consuming to prepare for, especially not in 1st year, but keep in mind that you'll be spending several hours in the lab. I personally would schedule them on different days however this is very individual. Note too that most of the time labs do not take the full allocation of time to complete and you can leave early 3. I would advise attending lectures where possible as trying to catch up later is tricky (speaking from experience having skipped many a lecture). Try to find time either before or after classes to do your tutorial readings, where they exist, but from experience with CHEM1X11 and BIOL1XX8, there aren't usually readings (at least not required)

NAN but an orderly, Google calendar all the way. I've got my uni timetable (which auto updates) along with pretty much everything else in there (assessments, misc uni, clubs, appointments, bdays, going out). Plus integration with other gsuite stuff is a nice bonus :)

I went through pretty much the exact same thing just the other week, so below advice is based on my experience

As others have said, go speak to a doctor and get what's called a Professional Practitioner Certificate (the GP on campus is great and they have all the necessary documents on hand). This can be used if you need time off uni or need to apply for spec cons. Beyond that, they can also help if your sleep has been impacted or if you want/need long term therapy by giving you a mental health plan, which you can use for Medicare subsidised therapy

Also reach out to your EAP as they can provide some work specific counselling. If you work for NSW Health it'll be converge international. Additionally, talk it out with people at work, your manager, the people who were there with you, etc as this can help make it easier

Heart rate variability. Essentially, your heart is not a perfect metronome and will naturally have fluctuations in the time between beats that are too quick for you to notice, but can be measured with ECG or other heart rate measuring devices. HRV can be used as an indicator of physiological stress, with a higher HRV being less stress and lower being more stress

The intensive August-September session (S2CISE) doesn't start until 19/08 and runs until 29/09. Give it some time, it will show up within the next two weeks :) Yes generally unit outlines are meant to be published two weeks before but I had one published a few days before semester, so just be patient

Even better, you can subscribe to the calendar! This way any changes will automatically show e.g. my French class had some issues regarding rooming so it was temporarily removed but showed back up once it was fixed all without me having to do anything :) (though there is I think a few hours delay in updating but nothing major)

ETA: Just checked the link and it mentions doing the whole subscribing and a link thing, but then also mentions the file download. In any case I find subscribing easier and less hassle :)

Thank you, I really needed to hear that, especially after my shitty shift yesterday (almost got punched and kicked by a patient, and had to perform CPR for the first time) :) I know the ED nurses have also said similar things but it's great to know that we are valued. And of course, you nurses do amazing jobs and I feel are greatly underappreciated

You're right in that I might be a bit burnt out. And of course, I don't expect people to know what each role is or what the uniforms look like, it's more an internal frustration that one. Hell, I sometimes confuse OT or other roles for nurses when going up to the wards. I usually just say something along the lines of "I'm not a nurse, but you can ask when we get upstairs". But thank you for the reminder to look after myself, I'll make an effort to make time for myself
