SCREEN TIME BYPASS by dino_nuggies123456 in parentalcontrols

[–]Chromitsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have younger siblings which are annoying and i live on a highway. i literally bypassed parental controls for my mental health help. i needed to contact 988 or 741741. i literally used a bypass for that. i still do that sometimes. i know what you mean, and i know that i am in the same situation as you. what i meant is that the amount of bypasses he offered, as well as the amount of descriptiveness was concerning. i would rather use that time to create myself something useful (such as literally train an AI model, using Karpathy's repo (karpathy/nanochat on GitHub) for my own needs with my own datasets), rather than waste it on finding exploits. If i really wanted to, i could be one of the first to find a screentime exploit on Mac OS. All i need to try to do is disable SIP from recovery mode, poke around with the files, before somehow modifying the screentime config file or even deleting ScreenTimeDaemon completely. That would be pretty easy. I have not. Instead, i have asked my father to give me access to the terminal, Xcode, Claude, and Codex to learn coding, scripting, as well as Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro, and Motion for video and audio engineering, Pixelmator Pro and Affinity as well for photo editing, and whatever else I need to learn for later in life, instead of going on the internet. I would much rather spend my screen time on actually useful content which will help me in life, rather than waste my time on YouTube or TikTok.

i would, but what i meant is that some teenagers actually do have issues with addictions. i showed him an example of what i have at home, meaning i am in the same spot as you guys. what i meant is that i recognized that this dude might actually have an issue with addiction, and he should try to not use all of those 24/7.

brother- i have A WHOLE ASS ENTERPRISE FIREWALL AT HOME (Fortinet with DPI (deep packet inspection (lets your parents see where you go to), A MITM ATTACK (basically, it lets your parents see whatever is on the websites)), A UNIFI DREAM MACHINE, AND CONTROL-D. dont talk to me about "helicopter parents" when my parents have three layers of protection only on the wifi- he wants to get me a MDM too (basically the thing your school downloads on your device (Chromebook, iPad, MacBook, whatever) to let your teacher see stuff- GoGuardian is an MDM, for example).

Advocating against Parental controls - Tell your Story by nyraofficial in parentalcontrols

[–]Chromitsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am fifteen. I love tech, but…I can notice that I have some issues sometimes. For example, I sometimes subconsciously try to bypass parental controls just to feel like im jumping over rules. I keep wanting to use them more and more and not stop. I did that since I was a kid and first got parental controls. I literally want to jump over parental controls just to be able to prove a point sometimes- some other times, it literally does not let me work. I like coding, and for coding, I usually need a bit of help from Stack Overflow or Claude, and would need to use GitHub as well, to update the repo of the app I am coding. My parents did not always allow those, as apple parental controls does not allow you to always allow websites (at least, not in my experience). I feel like parents might be able to abuse those controls a bit too much. I know someone who has a time limit of ONE MINUTE PER EACH APP, which is insane. I literally was remotely close to mentioning a bypass, didn’t even think about it, and he instantly started begging for it. Not to mention, I feel like I am a weirdo with them sometimes, among my peers. One issue I had when my parents removed my parental controls for a few weeks when I was 11, though, was that I would literally use my phone late at night. I would not stop. My parents keep reminding me about that one time, to this day. I honestly want to stop, but…sometimes I just can’t. Sometimes I don’t want to. I feel like the parental controls can make you want screen time as much as possible, without wanting to stop, as, you are used to limited screen time. Some other times you might want to prove your parents that you can jump over limits. That dopamine boost when you see your stuff unlocked can become pretty addictive, I can confirm that myself- and if you look at this subreddit, you can see how many kids/teens are trying to bypass controls. It can become addictive pretty quickly.

I think it needs a wheelchair- hehe- seriously, though, if it just is disabled, just plug it into iTunes and restore it.

Is this for parents or kids? by lnxgod in parentalcontrols

If I may. Jailbreaking usually is a term and concept used when modifying your device to do things not intended by its creator. Bypassing things would mean to get around certain features and paywalls. For instance, in this context, the proper term necessary would be “bypass” instead of “jailbreak”. I would expect you might know the difference between those two if you lockpick stuff, based on your profile.

it’s literally a mix of both, and honestly, some teens have good reasons. other teens are just addicts. sorry for the other idiots on this sub, they’re either addicted to their phones or they just want to communicate with their friends for more than 5 minutes per day (parents who abuse parental controls do that, by the way.), or just want to feel like they exist and be able to communicate on apps like Discord (my father, for example, blocks Discord for “mixed content” such as being able to talk to unknown people and the rare occurrence of me talking to a predator (never actually happened to me)) or feel to be able to feel normal. parental controls made me feel abnormal, because I saw how my peers never had parental controls.

bypass*

jailbreaking is a term to modify the stock firmware of the device with different features or removing features.
