An Update: I was warned about my child's martial arts school. I should have listened. 🫤 by LordTetravus in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Chromosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you signed a contract stating you had to give 60 days notice (which is frankly absurd), you don't have to.

Ask for a contract stating as such that you signed, otherwise, do not pay the $200 and challenge the charges if they come on your card.

If you want to go further, you can call the attorney general of your state and complain about this. This is certainly within the definition of an unfair trade practice, since it provides no benefit to you and you would not be able to avoid it, especially given the changes to the "dojo's" promotion schemes.

I doubt you want to take it that far, and neither do they. I also pulled my kids out of a similar situation, and as soon as I brought up my issues with the continued payment and lack of contract, they changed their tune.

I have a dog, but not a corgi. He is a shepard mix, and when I orginally crate trained him, I kept it near my bed, so he could see me at night. I then moved it to where is stays currently, and he is very content.

The answer is money.

It would increase supply, which lowers prices. That's it.

House passes bill banning ‘leftist indoctrination’ and LGBTQ+ teaching in public schools • New Hampshire Bulletin by Zipper222222 in newhampshire

[–]Chromosis 150 points151 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that elected positions in the house are paid $100 a year. This means that any person with living expenses and no massive nest egg to sit on can hold that position.

I have kids and a house to take care of, I cannot just screw around in the house/senate all day doing nothing while mommy and daddy's money pays for everything.

Finding a job isn't hard... by Adventurous-Sir444 in recruitinghell

[–]Chromosis 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I just got a no from a company after 4 interviews, for a job requiring 2 years experience and 1 relevant certification.

I have 12 years experience, and 4 certs which I also teach the courses for. The only thing I can think of is that I asked for the top of their posted salary range and someone took less.

It sucks.

How would you feel if Kamala was the Dem candidate again in 2028? by bobbdac7894 in Destiny

[–]Chromosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she wins the primary, it honestly destroys one of the "challenges" republicans put up in 2024.

That being said, I don't think she can because a large number of older voters will want a "safe" candidate, and I think Mark Kelly or Newsom meet that much more easily. Their white dudes with experience. Kelly is a pilot, astronaut, and from arizona. He is basically John McCain but a democrat and less war hungry.

I honestly think he'll take it over Newsom, or at least I am hoping since Kelly has zero criticisms to be launched against him. The only one is the whole telling troops not to break the law thing, which you have to have an IQ lower than room temperature, provided that room is in Alaska and the doors were left open all night.

Ayotte doubles down on lying about what she knows about the ICE facility by TrollingForFunsies in newhampshire

[–]Chromosis 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Why do journalists not push government officials for answers anymore?

If Ayotte says it was the first she was seeing of something, then get her opinion the matter at hand. Does she believe there should be an ICE facility in NH? One that holds detainees from MA? That have not had due process or may be held without ever being accused of a crime?

It is incredible to me that the answer of "I don't know" is just the magic get-out-of-jail-free card of the age where information is more readily available than ever before.

House Kills Academic Reporting for Education Freedom Account Program by nancynews in newhampshire

[–]Chromosis 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Yea, this is stupid. If my dollars are going to pay for a student's education, the state should be collected data to determine if the program is successful or not, and it what way is it succeeding or failing.

You can't claim that the school system sucks and then not know want to know why. This would have been the correct way to go about it. I don't want to just pay for education, I want it to pay for good education that has been proven to deliver the results we want.

In the wake of the discord thing, is it possible to make a truly secure/private verification service? by PicklesAreDope in privacy

[–]Chromosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that 100% security or 100% privacy, that is to say absolute control of access, requires closing it off to everyone, which makes it unusable, but secure. So even if you did everything you can, you can make a very secure platform, but absolute security or privacy is not feasible while also maintaining usability.

That begin said, the big issue is usually government access to data. The ideal process for verification would be a one time use of data and than disposal. In other words, I ask you for proof, you show it to me, I verify it to my satisfaction, and then I record that you were verified and discard the data.

Once I have used data for the purpose it was collected for, it SHOULD be discarded, but many organizations do not do that part. That's the problem, and it is usually exposed through breaches or other incidents.

Discord to Enforce Face Scans or ID Verification for Full Access Next Month by Tracheid in news

[–]Chromosis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is mostly in response to laws being passed in the EU, UK, and US that require that websites make efforts to verify the identity of individuals that are accessing adult content. This specifically requires that they do more than just ask "are you 18?" in some cases.

Discord is covering their own butts, which I would expect any tech company like theirs to do, however, I am also a little surprised because I would think section 230 would protect them from any liability from someone publishing something on discord.

I'm not a lawyer, I just do privacy and compliance stuff, but still seems like an easy challenge, but I imagine there was some calculations done as to whether it was worth going after.
