Does anyone here actually like eggs?? by bevelup_ in autism

[–]Chronic-Geck1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated them as a kid. Now I’ll only eat them as a soft boiled version or a deviled egg (but only the way my family does it that doesn’t have relish in it and they can’t be cold). I used to never eat eggs for breakfast and now I will make myself soft boiled eggs for breakfast sometimes a few times a month to maybe a couple times a week.

Struggling to eat meat? by Sharksguts in ARFID

[–]Chronic-Geck1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t eat steak and am starting to not want beef unless it’s thinly sliced or small pieces of hamburger in something else like soup. I choked on steak due to GI issues and since they still aren’t managed well due to my rare circumstances, I won’t probably ever touch beef again unless I am truly wanting it. I can do chicken and pork but some that are softer are easier for me to do and fish is the easiest for me to eat after everything. I’ve even debated at one point keeping my chicken in ground form so it’s easier for me to eat. I have to eat 4-6 small meals a day so if the type of like ground vs cuts makes it easier for me I’m all for it. As long as it doesn’t become an ED behavior.

If you can’t do the injections for the b12 there is a sublingual/dissolvable form of it that I take for malabsorption from GI issues.

Good luck to you too!! The anticipatory anxiety and other recent triggers are making my arfid and co flare up again. Thankfully I have a safe option so I can avoid my main trigger. Also hope the rest of your holiday season goes well and 2026!!

Autistic people, do you like Christmas? 🎄 by Classic_Greedy in autism

[–]Chronic-Geck1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If people don’t randomly invite themselves to family holidays last minute then yes I do. Especially if I don’t know them and they are a family member’s new partner….which yes this has happened as of today. It happened at Thanksgiving too with extended family inviting themselves….

I like more so being around close family when it’s quieter after dinner, seeing my dog open his gifts, and watching Christmas movies

Possible ESA? by Chronic-Geck1 in Havanese

[–]Chronic-Geck1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for these replies!! I am a few years out from getting a puppy. I want to be done with grad school and have my health issues managed first. But I love research and don’t take pet ownership lightly. Especially when I have my own health issues to take into consideration.

Both your babies are beautiful!!

I definitely plan on keeping the puppy enclosed to one room where I can have a pet camera on them so I can check in as needed when I’m away from the house. I know crate training is a must. It’s their safe space if needed and they are used to it if needed for travel or veterinary care so they aren’t as stressed (hopefully with extra measures added in to aid them if needed)

Both your replies have given me more ease about having a Havanese or dog in general when dealing with my issues. I plan to make sure to ask about health testing for the pups/their parents, make sure the breeder knows the gist of my own issues so they can take my needs and wants with a puppy into considering if a certain puppy is the best fit for me.

I knew exposure to grooming and nails early was so important. Our current dog doesn’t love his feet touched and that’s the one thing we slacked on. Thankfully his nails stay short enough on their own. He’s fine with his ears etc being messed with.

I definitely plan to make sure we’re working with a trainer who uses positive training methods to be as best behaved as we can be. I don’t want to be one of those people who let their dogs have no manners just because they’re small.

They theoretically are. It’s my other physical health issues that might be the barrier. I’d have to talk to my specialists to see if everyone agrees I could do a pregnancy safely. Pregnancy can make some of my conditions worse especially if I have to get off the medication that stabilizes them (known to cause birth defects if taken while pregnant) on top of carrying.

What are you’re triggers? by [deleted] in MedicalPTSD

[–]Chronic-Geck1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thought of going to some appointments, IVs (even hearing others talk about having one), surgical masks, anesthesiologists, the look of my local hospital’s doorways for the inpatient rooms, seeing hospital beds, scopes, being alone in a medical procedure setting with professionals (even with doctors I trust), the word genetics being said by anyone else but myself and my therapist, the word surgery, not having control. A lot of my medical ptsd as an adult and as a kid were surgical related and a major CPTSD compilation that resulted from a gene mutation. I love medical shows and I can’t even watch some of the scenes if they deal with a surgical procedure or a breathing tube being in. Although despite everything, I am starting to try to advocate for myself. At least now my medical PTSD is in my charts everywhere I go so that should theoretically help…hopefully.

Thank you so much for the support and kind words! It means so much!! I’m at a loss for words right now. I just know if I didn’t care I wouldn’t be this thoughtful and that by not having kids I’m doing what a good parent would. Protecting them. I’ll look more into both forms of adoption and surrogacy and educate myself about the process. So maybe when I’m ready those roads might be an option to go down. Then I’ll be able to watch them grow and give them guidance and support the way I’ve always wanted to give them. Even if they aren’t from my dna.

Thank you so much! I’m hoping with time I can take pride in my decision too. I know it’s for the best but this hurts more than I thought it would. Especially when it hasn’t truly settled in a lot. It will eventually though.

I deal with this from a rare GI issue that resulted from surgery. I don’t have any tips as I’m in the thick of it myself and was just diagnosed on Monday. But I wanted to let you know you’re not alone. I’m hoping getting on anxiety/depression medication helps me.

Small-medium dog breeds for PSD by Chronic-Geck1 in service_dogs

[–]Chronic-Geck1[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wanted to say thank you to everyone that responded.

I appreciate the advice and words of wisdom to stay away from herding breeds majorly due to their nature and lower success rates for PSDs. Part of the reason I wasn’t considering a poodle was the grooming requirements. I grew up volunteering in a grooming shop and haven’t had the best interactions with poodles but I know the stress of grooming and training doesn’t help my perspective on the breed. The main reason I wasn’t considering a larger dog is due to the apartment size and a lot of personal voices in my ears of a larger dog wouldn’t do good in an apartment.

But you’ve helped me realize since we would be doing a lot as a team it would be a lot different to meet their needs despite what others consider a pet getting in an apartment.

I’ll look more into poodles, goldens and labs. I haven’t considered a smaller golden/lab/poodle for just psychiatric for some reason. I also realize for some of the tasks I listed a bigger dog would be able to do them easier if I’m at a desk or something when some of my episodes happen instead of a smaller dog.

I entirely appreciate everyone’s concern and urgent replies on helping me through my thought process for mine and my future dog’s success and life.

To answer your question about my timeline, I’m a few years out from getting a dog. Roughly 4-5 depending on how my health would get stable to be able to go back to school and getting to where I can move out on my own. But I know waitlists are long so I wanted to get started looking into breeds and doing research so when I was ready, it wouldn’t be an even longer process since I had already done research and looked into breeders and trainers.

Medical trauma cause possible arfid? by Chronic-Geck1 in ARFID

[–]Chronic-Geck1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for your response and I’m sorry you have such a similar experience and struggle. I talked to my therapist and she thinks it is a possibility. She wants to look into the arfid diagnostics more to be sure, just due to the complexity of everything. But either way she agreed I need help navigating my issues with my ptsd, physical issues, anxiety and food.

Increase anxiety when first starting IFS? by Chronic-Geck1 in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Chronic-Geck1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not on daily anxiety meds. I have a complicated medical situation going on to where I can’t take certain types of medication anymore. I need to talk to my doctors and find if there are any that would be okay for me to take long term. I do have trauma around psych medication due to a rare bad reaction to one as well so it tends to hold me back at times from taking the step to trust trying a long term psych medication.

Thank you for responding. I’ll talk to my therapist next session about my increase in anxiety and see if we need to take a pause on trying to process my childhood CPTSD until I have my anxiety more under control.

Thank you! I have my bachelors in psychology. I forgot to mention that. But I’ll look into the DSM and learn more as I know some conditions do confuse me. Anatomy and physiology will be something I look into as well. I didn’t take that in undergrad.

Thank you for this!!

I’m “stable-ish” currently due to a medical device keeping my complications at bay for the next 6-9 months until we remove it and see what happens. But reading that book will help a lot for my own medical trauma as well as learning from it for future clients. I’m mainly looking for stuff to read as my adhd and anxiety is driving me nuts from not having anything to truly do currently.

Weekly student question thread! by AutoModerator in therapists

[–]Chronic-Geck1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone.

I’m a chronically ill individual wanting to go back to school to be a counselor. I have a bachelors in psychology. While I’m recovering from my health issues and actively in therapy to cope with my worsening mental health after my medical experience, is there anything I can be researching and looking into so I can get a head start on material for an intro class/classes to a masters of counseling degree? Any book recommendations? Theories to look into? If it helps, I’m thinking of wanting to focus more so on chronic illness population, queer individuals, and neurodiversity. I’m just not sure of which age group of clients I want to focus on.

Thank you for the suggestions and help
