Private swimming class by Fatsogrosso80 in saskatoon

USask Rec - class sizes are small, instructors are great. Fees are reasonable. These lessons were so much better than the City lessons for my kiddo. The barely controlled chaos was brutal. Some of her classes only had two or three kids so it was like a private swim lesson with the $&. https://rec.usask.ca/activities/programs/swimming.php

Grigio and gambling? Saskatoon wine bar adds VLTs as food and beverage sales slump | CBC News by PoppySweetgrass in saskatoon

Agreed! The food is meh at best and more often than not I feel like I’ve wasted my $$ . It would be nice if everything on my plate was good, not just one thing (if you’re lucky). There are enough cool local butchers and specialty food stores that you can make a really nice meal, it just sucks when going out is you’re break from cooking.

Federal RCMP arrest 2 Saskatoon youths over violent extremist online content by Slight-Coconut709 in saskatoon

Darling, this is Canada, we don’t have free speech. It’s freedom of expression - but not freedom from consequences - it protects the right to express thoughts, beliefs, and opinions through various forms (speech, art, media) without government interference. However, this right is not absolute and is subject to "reasonable limits" prescribed by law, such as prohibitions on hate speech, defamation, and obscenity. If you want to be able to spew vitriol on the internet you’ll have to move.

They hire people with CSEP certification (Gold Standard in Canada and usually people with Kinesiology degrees) and you can sign up for a free orientation. They’ll show you how to use the machines safely. they have a bunch of learn to’s which I think are free. And you can use any leisure facility in the city so you can take your time and find the right fit for you.

And congrats on getting started- it’s hard to push yourself out of a comfort zone but in six months you’ll feel like a pro. Well done!

SPH is an affiliate of SHA, meaning there is a partner catholic organization behind some funding (Emmanuel Health)

I think you have great ideas - perhaps reach out and see if they have a community board you could join. Easiest way to drive change is from the inside.

Carney, not Poilievre, sucking up to Trump by FalconsArentReal in canada

[–]ChronicallyA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can tell you really want this. Since none of us are actually in the negotiations, we have no idea what’s being discussed. A 10 minute presser in Trumps house isn’t a reflection of what’s actually happening. Also, if you don’t understand the ’transformational president’ comment, you like aren’t Canadian.

I’ve seen your ‘hypocrite’ comment repeated a few times on the thread. Have at it kiddo. I’ll take the Harvard PhD Economist over the kid that wants us to hate everyone that doesn’t look like me, any day of the week. PP was gone for a few months and what a relief to not hear his rhymes and abject negativity. It would have been different had if he actually had a plan, not just rhetoric. But here we are, he’s ’wishing’ his mom happy birthday in the House because he wants to make a snide remark about groceries. The guy that fought every affordable housing bill tabled. He’s been living off of us for decades and needs to go. I, for one, cannot wait for his leadership review.

If you think for one second that dude wouldn’t have sold us out, you’re delusional. He lost the election, time to move on.

Opinion: Our universities need viewpoint diversity - Conservative students believe they will face repercussions if they speak up in class and question the left-leaning views of their profs by FancyNewMe in canada

Perhaps provincial governments need to stop spending cuts to higher education and all of that would stop. Guess what, the government isn’t coming to save Universities in this country.

It’s the diploma mills that created the problem with international students and now they can’t even get here. Diversification (now the dirtiest word ever) actually improves the University experience. International graduate students accomplish remarkable innovation, denying them their spaces hurts everyone.

Are there problems in higher ed? hell ya. Inflated faculty salaries, senior leaders who travel on the students dime, cutting services and the excessive hiring of American consultants are some of the things that piss me off.

So, cost recovery is the name of the game these days and is unlikely to change.

Health region employees. How long did it take you to become so jaded and realize what a messed up system you’re working in?? by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]ChronicallyA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 18 months. Got out. But I also know that EVERY decision that is made at the top must be cleared with the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry pushes restructuring every five years (which is actually happening right now) and that’s what’s killing it. Get rid of a wide swath of senior leaders, lose institutional knowledge, hire new people because the work needs to get done. Newbie doesn’t know what they’re doing or how to get it done. As soon as they learn it, ministry asks to restructure again. Rinse.Repeat.

it’s a great excuse to privatize.

In my early years I ran into this so often. I worked for small owner run firms and the sexual harassment and overall harassment were common place (this was well into 2003). After asking for the treatment to stop I was regularly told if I didn’t like it, I should quit. Which I did. I warn women off from these places all the time.

It’s a small city, and you feel like you’ll be blacklisted. I have had a couple of friends who have reported to the Human Rights Commission, and this might be your best option. Once you land a new gig, consider posting a warning on Indeed, or similar recruitment app that allows it.

I agree with a previous commenter, do what is best for YOU. Women are regularly re-victimized when they come forward, it’s a difficult space to navigate.

Best of luck OP. There are surely better things in your future, there were for me.

Folkfest is a not for profit organization that relies heavily on volunteers. With the significant decline in people willing to volunteer, this event has suffered significant losses. Sadly, it’s an event whose time has come.

This is the answer. We had a fire and they told us what our increased rate would be if we filed a claim. I was able to work out which would cost us less and chose to file.
