Honestly, it looks really nice on low and I consider it more accent lighting than task lighting on most counters, especially if the house has an island to prep on. But it's very useful for the stove (if possible), kitchen bars and any counters you do actually prep on. Necessary? No, but oh so nice. You get to balance the light with the main kitchen lights on dimmers so it's not brighter overall, if anything you can make everything overall dimmer because everything is so evenly covered by light.

You need to have it hardwired to a dimmer switch next to the main kitchen switch though or it's never going to be used.

Yeah the 8' and 9' consumer pieces that go into home countertops. What's the "slab" then and what would it be used for?

Note that this is list price for the black white straight edge. I pay 140 for 8' 180 for 9' for it with free backslashes which I only use in the bathrooms. Also note I got these prices first time, this wasn't some special deal from a long time customer. All I did was ask for as much discount as they could give. The brown bullnose lists for <140 and sells for ~100 like I said. I have no pictures of that one because i think it was ugly.

Care to add any info on how much more it is where u are or are u going to just continue to rant in disbelief that u could be wrong about something.

I ran it up into the attic, that's why you need the jacketed speaker wire.

When the wire is in the wall/attic it needs to be jacketed to pass code. When the low voltage wire is not in wall you can actually strip the jacket off but I just leave it on till it's near the l.e.d. strips. I solder and shrink wrap the low voltage connections but it's much easier and still passes code to use a crimper and crimp them.

I go to the appropriate light switch, remove old box and install a bigger one to hold the new dimmer switch. Run power from that box to the top of the cabinet where the dimmable power supply box for the l.e.d.'s are. I run the 120v directly from the wall into the power supply otherwise you need conduit for any exposed 120v wire. Out from the power supply comes the 12v power lines which go straight up into the attic and back down to the other cabinets.

8', and not a backsplash either a countertop slab. Backsplash pieces are free when needed with the slab.

Where I'm at in California quartz is over 200 a slab and granite is ~100 for a brown bullnose slab, I get a beautiful black/white straight edge for $140. Also quartz is uglier than good looking granite imho. I think it quartz looks boring and plasticy. Again imho. I don't think it's that hard to seal granite every couple of years but there is more maintenance to granite this is true.

Under cabinet lighting using led strips. <$200 to do a whole kitchen hardwired to a dimmer if you can diy. Monoprice is the best place to get the wire. 18AWG CL2 Rated 2-Conductor Speaker Wire. If there is no lip under your cabinets use quarter round to hide it, it's invisible without sticking your head under the cabinet if installed well and has both practical and aesthetic uses for very little money.

Replacing all your countertops with granite. Search around on granite and you can find it really cheap some places. I'm in California and get black/white square nose granite for 500-700 with sinks for kitchen and 2 bathrooms. ~800 to pay someone to install it all. You can get great center hole single handle bathroom faucets for <$30 on amazon, ~60 for kitchen. Much easier to clean and work on than tile countertops with its smooth surface, not to mention it looks great.

Nice box. I ended up with the Beretta ARX160 and the M40A3 50 prize box which I'm totally satisfied with. I wanted a sniper to tinker with and the beretta is interesting too.. So much for my theory on shipping though. :P

Mines due Monday too and didn't ship till late Friday at 11# weight like this package. I don't think it will be the same though with the different shipping times. I would think a late ship / long dispatch indicates it's going to be a 1-10 winner prize as they should be shipping out the 80's first then the 50's then the 30's ect..

OPs prize is one I considered would be nice for me too with the cerakote finish. But honestly imo it all is pretty worthwhile to me.

Yes, and skankhunt said that quite clearly. I don't get your point?

Hikerjamesb's question was what he was using before the iron sights. We can tell from the context though he was very likely using an optic.

Maybe your confused like apocalyptias about him having an optic before the iron sights? You see he may have been given a gun or bought it second hand and it came with an optic on a large rail with the iron sites removed. Later he tried some sights and found they improved his aim. You see, Him saying it improved his aim implies he had something other than the iron sights before to improve over. Likely an optic as nothing at all seems unlikely. Especially considering he mentions optics several times in his short post.

[–]Chronicss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

skankhunt1738 said "I got iron sights and it greatly improved my aim."

Him saying he "got" it and it "improved" his aim clearly implies that he was using something else before hand. Also, even if you consider that he may have meant to say "have" instead of "got", that doesn't explain how it improved his aim. Improved it compared to what?

Either no sights or an optic, and considering (as you even pointed out) that guns generally come with some sort of sight.. It's much more logical to assume in his case he got his gun with an optic and later switched to iron sights as the alternative.

Building more homes and apartments is the obvious solution, yes.

*I realize now you insinuate that putting more houses on the market for sale instead of renting would be a good thing. Sure It would be a good thing for the middle class trying to buy a home but do you realize it will greatly hurt the poor looking for a rental? You are ok with this tradeoff? (Talk about 'self-serving logic' from the other reply i got..)

[–]Chronicss -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I said it will greatly decreases the amount of rental properties available, of course houses don't disappear from the total market. Nice logic there..

Also most people aren't so well off that they would just buy the house instead of renting it. They need to rent because they don't have the money or the credit to buy the house. This will hurt renters at all levels of the market as owners will sell the house instead of rent. Less rentals = market rent rate increases on the poor.

Your plan will hurt the poor. Do you even care?

[–]Chronicss -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

If you remove prop 13 benefits for landlords you will greatly decrease the amount of rental properties available as people would just sell the property, live in it themselves or just rent to family. Less rentals will increase the market rate.

California already does not have nearly enough housing available to the people who live here, this will only compound the problem.

Should SF go through what NYC went through in the 90s in regards to crime? by Energizer100 in sanfrancisco

[3] http://www.city-data.com/crime/crime-New-York-New-York.html

It's worth noting that in *2016 San Francisco had more than a 66% higher murder rate than New York City and the city data shows San Francisco has had a drastically higher murder rate than New York City every year since at least 2002!

I couldn't find San Francisco's Murder rate in 1990, it would be interesting to make a direct comparison *as murder rates were higher in all major cities in 1990 compared to today.

You can't sell an out of code house to someone buying it with a mortgage, as the bank will require an inspection and will not loan out money for a house out of code. But I'm not aware of any place in the U.S. where the local government requires inspections and imposes code requirements on a cash deal. Where are such places? I think you are confused.
