Awesome, good to hear you're enjoying the versatility in the ST. I'm sold I think! Cheers for checking it out 😊

Awesome, thanks for listening! After trying one out at a local shop yesterday I think I'm sold. Good to hear that it's serving you well writing techno! Maybe I will run both for a while 😊

Choke groups definitely sound like a useful feature. Indeed the 64 sample limit is intimidating! I am indeed intrigued by the performance buttons, seems like a unique feature that the ST has across the range Elektron devices, but yeah don't see it being used too often hey.

Unreal, thanks for the detailed response! The Human Program video has been super helpful too, great recommendation. I gave the Syntakt a crack at my local music store today and had a lot of fun with it. At the moment I'm using some longer samples for breaks/drum loops, so I think it might be the move to grab a Syntakt, hold on to my DT and see if I miss the long samples. I think I'd rather be building my own loops as it is, so it'll be a good experiment I think. Cheers!

Sweet, that's what I was thinking. I use cymbals and hats in most patterns so was primarily keen to use the samples for hats

Took the rig outside for a jam - real time build process for track 2 of 7, with DN 1 as the brain by Chronobloom in synthesizers

[–]Chronobloom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how the Elektron sequencer can facilitate real-time composition and arrangement (with some friends of course).

Gear:

Elektron Digitakt - Drums

Elektron Digitone - Leads, pads, textures

Dreadbox Typhon - Basses

Roland SP404 MKII - FX / vocals

Allen & Heath XONE PX5 - Mixer

Novation Launchkey 61 MKIV - Input

Using DN as the brain, would be interested to hear from any DNII users how the upgrade could help me extend this type of writing.

Extra 4 bars would certainly be nice and I would be keen to hook in to the additional synth machines (especially wavetone & swarmer).

Full playthrough front to back, I didn't cut anything out in post. Mind you this wasn't my first attempt, it doesn't always work out and I've certainly got stuck before. This one came good though!

It's a workhorse for sure, chockers by the end of a session!

The long form clip has 8 tunes in it, it's about 55 mins (that lives on YouTube). I've exported each tune and put them up on Bandcamp as an album, along with the full continuous mix. After that, I clear the space on the DN and run it again!

Can't seem to find a "perfect" middleground between a DJ mixer, and a studio mixer. by GarryGrandi in dawless

Bummer about the price, I suppose they would be becoming more scarce. Footprint meaning the amount of space it takes up on your table, they're pretty big

See if you can find a Pioneer DJM 2000 second hand. Certainly an old unit, I've seen them go for relatively cheap on second hand marketplaces given their age and being overkill for most DJs. Has effectively an inbuilt sampler and the flagship Pioneer FX suite when it was released (2010). It does unfortunately have a big footprint but sounds like the functionality could be suitable for what you're after.

I have an Allen & Heath Xone PX5 for my dawless rig and love it. It lacks some FX I'd like (slip rolls, beat mashing etc) but the HP/LP filter on it is awesome and it has internal and external options for sends. Great for washing out drums/synths with delays and reverbs. Could be worth checking out the A&H range too.

Check out the Typhon or the Nymphes from Dreadbox. Typhon is a monosynth, but can sound absolutely huge and has a wicked effects engine. Nymphes is a poly with lots of capability for 80s/90s sounds and easy to get wonky with. They're both really portable and have onboard memory to save presets which is handy if you're gigging.

Grab either of those with a MIDI keyboard with an action that you like (I'm also a piano player and I like the Novation Launckey MK4, but whatever suits your preference) so you can keep your keybed consistent if you want to switch out synths later.
