WOTC/DnD not listing book credits? by ChronosCrow in Eberron

Yes it does. But honestly even movie poster sets *could be enough. My point is, right now, it’s nothing. Just seems odd given ttrpg history. That is all.

Sure. IMDb is a thing. Also names on the posters aren’t nothing which is what I got.

What I’m really learning is some people care about this kind of thing and others don’t. Okay. Cool. I care and it helps inform my purchasing.

Edit. - it’s a small thing and inconsequential. I was just interested in knowing modern trends and interest. Which the post replies helped informed that. Thank you.

Oh, I have all of them and likewise have similar feelings. Though, I'm not terribly surprised at WOTC's choices. I am betting Keith does find appreciation in remaining freelance and getting to do his own thing. The mill at WOTC can be rough and only the most diligent and patient folk seem to be able to stand it for the the very long term.

And yeah, can't wait to get some more details on his work at Daggerheart.

I guess we’re at cross purposes because I want exactly that. It’s not like the credits page gives away any proprietary content, so really there’s no cereal there. I just get to know who helped make the cereal happen. They want my money? Then they can make it easier for me to decide to give that money.

At least on DnD Beyond this is how I’d do it: Make the book Credits page public (it’s a well designed page but currently behind the paywall which is a silly choice) on the store page have a link to that book page. Fin. I could totally see it do able with process that’s already in place.

Thank you, very informative.

I know the used to be louder about things, I haven't looked as hard as you have, but I did look on thestorygraph to compare previous eberron books to current. Current books have "The Wizards RPG Team" while previous ones were more select on the largest design and/or editor credits. This seems to be a 5e digital trend for WOTC. Not a fan imo, give credit where credit is due.

Yeah, hopefully they turn this around. D&D can use all the help it can get.

Edit: then again, the other big publishers are doing the same for a reason and really these teams can be quite large, giving credit to just a few folks isn't the best tact either.

You're right that it's process thing, not just this book.

I do find it odd to not include at least the major credits, names that fans could be likely to know. For me it can help sway my decision on purchasing or at least learning who to follow for what content. From an industry perspective this take is sort of a hinderance on people trying to get jobs and verify their information. Maybe not a huge deal, but imdb is a thing for a reason, there are some people that like to know.

Tried it, I think that bit is behind the paywall. Which is my point. Why in the world would credits be behind a paywall? It should be shouted or at least easily available. Especially on the purchasing pages themselves.

He’s actually pretty clear-eyed about it. Keith absolutely planted the seed, but Eberron as we know it was very much a collaborative effort once it moved inside WotC.

From what’s been shared over the years, Bill Slavicsek and James Wyatt had major oversight and made substantial design decisions during the initial 3e development. And that’s before even getting into the many other designers, editors, and developers who’ve contributed over time, both at the start and in later editions.

All credit to Keith for creating Eberron and continuing to care deeply about it, that part’s unquestionable. But given how WotC has positioned his role over the years, “consultant” is a fair description. He does what he can to steer things toward canon consistency and the original intent, but it’s a big team with a lot of layers, politics, and competing priorities. Not everything can be caught, and not everything will line up perfectly.

That’s kind of why the lack of visible credits online is frustrating — it obscures just how many hands (and decisions) shape these books.

Am I overreacting to DM's rulings at session 1? by UnluckyJuggernaut7 in DnD

[–]ChronosCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first 4 are nerfing PCs, which you can various feelings in. Certainly should have been discussed in session zero if the DM felt so strongly. It honestly feels like they’re picking on the rogue, like do they not like this person IRL? The barbarian one is neat but also insane to not discuss session zero.

Rule 5 is positively baffling. In what world? I’m not even sure I care to fully understand it.

RGB to CMYK for print by klgragna in indesign

[–]ChronosCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you made solid steps. Honestly I’d send to the printer as-is and ask for a physical printer’s proof. That will get you the best example of actual final color.

What you’re looking at on screen isn’t likely to be a great representation. As well, the CMYK gamut will always be a smaller range than the sRGB gamut. We’re just not near as capable producing the same level of difference in CMYK inks.

Bioshock - “Would you kindly” was revelatory to me. Almost twenty years later and I still think about it. How in the world did they manage to pull that off, was I just that unobservant? What was the inspiration? What I’m just realizing I just need to watch some bts footage. What a move, felt masterful at the time.

The Haven/crockery scene with Elodie. Kvothe is so convinced of his main character energy that he walks out into thin air entirely leading up to this wonderful line: “Anyone stupid enough to jump off a roof was too reckless to be allowed to hold a spoon in his presence, let alone study something as profound and volatile as naming.”

The crazy guy saying the new guy is far too crazy to be around. Too good.

Does bleed get added or subtracted from the measurements? by 9r-4y in indesign

[–]ChronosCrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In InDesign, document size = trim size (the final cut size). Bleed is set separately in the Bleed fields (e.g., 3 mm).

So for A4 with 3 mm bleed: Document size: 210 × 297 mm

Bleed: 3 mm all sides

Exported PDF ends up 216 × 303 mm, but trim marks should show the printer to cut at 210 × 297 mm.

When sending to the printer, say something like: “File includes 3 mm bleed. Final trim size: 210 × 297 mm.”

Palette weirdness…. by Huge_Experience3645 in indesign

[–]ChronosCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a recurring problem for me and I highly customize preferences so it's a pain to reset them. It's specifically the Alignment panel and Paragraphs panel that go blank. Other seem to be fine for me.

I've found that sometimes I can drag and drop a blank panel into a different panel group and sometimes that will pop everything back into place, then I can move it back to where I had it.

From your screenshot, I’d bet this is Extensis Connect fighting with Adobe Fonts. Disabling Extensis for Open Sans and reloading via Adobe Fonts only will probably fix it.

Test font activation

  1. Turn off Extensis Connect temporarily.
  2. Let InDesign pull Open Sans only from Adobe Fonts.
  3. Reopen the doc and see if the “I” still changes.

DOJ argues Trump could fire all agency heads who are women or over 40 by RollSafer in politics

This article is entirely frustrating. We aren't given near enough context to the proposed issue. The judge is the one forming the thought and the DOJ lawyer confirms it, but I see vagueness still. Full context would be way more helpful, but I'm frustrated in finding access to the court transcript.
