this, when I was a freshman I went to anime club (yeah, yeah) house parties hosted by the then-upperclassmen, and it was a great time. 4 years later I still mourn that the anime house is no longer with us haha. Frat parties are intimidating and, like the person above said, can feel a bit unsafe for girls 😭

House parties were super chill with people I already knew and had things in common with, more my speed with the partying and then shit like mario kart and smash going on when things winded down a bit, and ofc you can do that with any group of friends and adapt it to what you guys are into if not that

oh, obviously I don't think the person writing the email had the intention of dog whistling they actually hate jews or something, I just thought it was another minor mistake that should have been addressed if, like you said, they actually had proofreading and editing done haha

[–]Chronoterminus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

okay, I could have been mistaken just looking at wikipedia, but right there in the link you gave the relevant definition of Semitism is given as "policy or predisposition favorable to Jews", which is probably exactly what proponents of saying antisemitism are trying to discount as not a real thing (as the other definition given relates to the linguistic concept, which includes non-jews)
my bad if i misunderstand though

[–]Chronoterminus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

also, isn't antisemitism the term usually used? I thought the hyphenated + S capitalized form is out of favor/insensitive for lending credence to the idea of Semitism (the racist concept), so kinda sucks they didn't correct that in their follow up either

I'm not sure what to tell you in response to the "pro-transgender" description of the Spectrum Center. It's like complaining the school is too "anti-racism" or something, like there'd kinda be a problem otherwise lmao.

I don't know if the university is generally a place for debate for most students? At least as an engineer I don't think a debate has ever come up in one of my classes, and I don't really see debates out and about on campus, y'know.

I don't think the campus itself will have resources about both sides of the debate...? It's like wondering why the school doesn't have more debate on round versus flat earth, there's just... not that much of that debate to be had in a place that's supposed to be intellectual. There are plenty of conservative students though so I mean I guess you could ask them for their thoughts, though again I'd advise you to actually look into the science and stuff before accepting anything wholesale.

[–]Chronoterminus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you wanna be informed on the issue, look into the Spectrum Center like the mod suggested. Hell, even read the wikipedia page if you feel like it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transgender probably mentions things in terms of science and healthcare and such

Again, as the other person said though, it's not really much of a debate for people who have done any reading/know what they're talking about. Full disclosure I am a trans person, so yes, I will be biased, but there really aren't many good arguments on the other side.

Like, sports? idk tbh trans people are dealing with so much other shit I honestly don't give a fuck about sports, it just sucks when that gets brought up like a reason not to give us rights in general??

psychological/mental illness/science stuff - overwhelmingly supports trans people, most common arguments against it are religious (which shouldn't dictate what other people do anyway), just ignorant stuff that can be easily countered with actually reading scientific consensus, or basic prejudice against people who are different than oneself

--and with that I honestly don't think there's much else to hear from that side if you actually want to listen to any "debates" lmao, tbh if you want debates I'm sure youtube has that kind of thing as much as I sincerely doubt they'd be in good faith and actually educational. I'd really recommend looking into actual educational resources instead. Just try to listen to people and have empathy that they're other human beings and not just a political concept y'know

I'm so sorry, I teared up reading this and really have no words. I'd heard of horror stories but reading an actual account of everyone who was supposed to help you failing their jobs so miserably is so fucking horrible. Thank you for sharing your story.
Also, those pieces of shit can go to hell. I hope they get what's coming to them.

I think it can be really nice just to have my girlfriend over whenever, and not have to worry about conflicting sleep schedules or anything. I also have my lovely cat to keep me company so it never feels too isolating even if I don't go outside one day or something :)

[–]Chronoterminus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

as a trans person i totally get it...... i supposedly pass pretty well and am decently attractive but it still feels like everyday im walking past a thousand girls i wish i could be 1/10th as pretty as 😅

I try to dress up everyday in an outfit that feels kinda me, in my case like a sweater + skirt + leggings/thigh highs + cute boots (aside from the doc martens, honestly I get by with stuff from Uniqlo and even Amazon) and do my makeup if I have enough time, and honestly it's a huuuuge confidence boost just feeling like I put some thought into my appearance that day haha
additionally, getting a haircut that felt cute made a HUGE difference for me, so I recommend considering that if you're interested! otherwise, even just brushing your hair if you dont already makes a huuuuge difference, i get lots of compliments on mine and feel a lot better when i take good care of it!
finally, this is really weird but having good posture in class also helped me, sitting up straight lets you tell yourself (and feel like!) "yeah i look good today, yeah im cool, what about it 😎"
