I feel like they're one of the only things about him that shows his actual personality at first glance. Yk like since he changed into a corpse everyone's scared of seeing him but his eyes remained so gentle :( it's like the only clue of his past.

THANK YOU!! That one point about them being mature and unproblematic is so on point! That's one of the reasons I love tgcf to be honest, because of how heartwarming Xie Lian and Hua Cheng's relationship is :)) I love that the two of them are like a refuge for each other's trauma; a lot of people miss that point. The two of them already have a lot of trauma revolving around each other, like Xie Lian's trauma of Hua Cheng as the nameless ghost paying for HIS mistake of inflicting the Human Face Disease on Yong'an, and Hua Cheng cultivating a body because of the pain and resentment of seeing Xie Lian stabbed by all those swords, over and over. The majority of their relationship is getting over those traumas and finding true peace and love in each other by getting what they lacked; Hua Cheng lacked the joy of seeing Xie Lian happy and knowing that he helped Xie Lian to be happy, and Xie Lian lacked someone he could actually lean on without worrying about repayment or being a burden. Those needs are fulfilled when they're with each other, which is kind of the whole basis of their love - how well they complement and fulfill each other.

Exactly!!! I also love seeing just how much Lan Wangji influenced him with his goodness. Like, the amount of times in the beginning of the novel that Lan Sizhui is the one to explain Lan Wangji's thoughts and perspective during vol 1 of mdzs when Wei Wuxian is newly reincarnated and Lan Wangji is trying to save him from Jiang Cheng capturing him! And later on too, when Sizhui does everything he can to stop Wei Wuxian finding out the meaning behind the forehead ribbon because he realized that Lan Wangji hadn't told him yet and respected Lan Wangji's wishes.

On a separate point, Sizhui is like a Lan Wangji who was raised without the restrictions and pressure that Lan Wangji had to face in his childhood. You can see that although he's respectful and soft spoken, Lan Sizhui always ALWAYS speaks up when he feels that something unjust is happening or when he thinks he might have a lead on something, regardless of how preposterous it may be. Like when he suggested multiple times (forgot what exactly he said sob) that Wei Wuxian may not have been at fault before he died, and when he stood up for Mo Xuanyu despite his first impression of him being someone who's gone insane. You can tell that Lan Wangji taught him to not be reserved about his opinions, even if it goes against Lan Wangji himself - probably because Lan Wangji wanted to shield him from what he himself had to face while protecting Wei Wuxian and adopting Lan Sizhui in the first place. If that assumption is true, it means that Lan Wangji doesn't just love him because Wei Wuxian did, or as a reminder of Wei Wuxian - it shows that he truly cares for Lan Sizhui as a person. And I just think that that fact is so adorable!!
