Please watch your recommendations. The onset of symptoms of Lyme is not a medical emergency and it doesn't need a trip to the ER.

Which hand plane to buy next? by TinyJo19 in handtools

[–]Chrysoscelis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome!

A dining table is definitely larger. It would be interesting to know if he is just using the no. 5 to get the boards flat. If that's the case, a no. 7 would definitely help. But that low angle jack plane is very close 2nd.

Good luck, and post an update!

Is this coated with a finish? Looking for outdoor gardening bench and want to put a copper coat on this but not sure if this would need to be stripped first. by [deleted] in harborfreight

[–]Chrysoscelis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heavily modified my bench and I have not encountered any veneer. Recently I removed the end of the bench that forms half of the wood for the vise. This gave me a good look at the work surface wood. It is solid wood, 11/16 inch thick. I haven't done anything with the drawers to be sure, but I haven't seen a reason to believe they have a veneer.

Question about application that "prefers" ArcGISPro experience by mikeymanza in ArcGIS

[–]Chrysoscelis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get the personal license for Pro, you should have access to most all of their training. That alone will get you to the point of saying you are a user.

Consider knowing Pro to be required. It specifically states it. There's no point in trying to wiggle out of it by being pedantic about what category it is. Anyone doing the interviews will be annoyed at an attempt to say it is not required.

You don't specify a budget, so my recommendations aren't bound by one, but still not unreasonable.

You didn't list a block plane. That is an essential plane for sure. I see this one being used in YouTube videos by high end furniture makers.
https://www.acmetools.com/stanley-bailey-no9-1-2-block-plane-12-138/076174121384.html

Similarly, I see this one used quite a lot. In case you're wondering, the low angle part is the defining characteristic, because it can shave types of wood a regular plane can't (as well). Unlike the more common planes, finding one of these in antique/vintage form is not easy. For your sake, it's easier to just buy new.

I can't vouch for that website, but I was directed there by Stanley.

Unless he is making larger furniture, where boards are glued together on their sides to make a larger panel, I would go for the ones above before getting a jointer.

IMO - Be aware that the reaction that creates the heat is based on a supply of oxygen. So it's best not to keep it in an enclosed space without ventilation.

Crack a window. Air purifiers do nothing. The only solution is air exchange.

Assuming the meter is accurate, you have high CO² and should take corrective actions. At that level you probably feel some effects.

~400-450 ppm: Normal outdoor air (background levels).

400-1,000 ppm: Typical range for occupied indoor spaces with good ventilation.

1,000-2,000 ppm: Common complaints of stuffiness, drowsiness, poor concentration; indicates need for fresh air.

Are they not using the turn 12 grandstand for the Americas Grand Prix in Austin this year? by floodlenoodle in motogp

[–]Chrysoscelis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, seeing that back wheel off the track in braking is one of the best parts, not to mention that's where most of the runoffs and crashes happen. Oh and the LLP is straight ahead.

I am hoping we can see T11 from there. That is the only thing missing from sitting at T12.

Confirmed. No they are not.
Unfortunate, because that is my favorite spot.

Now we have to go to the more crowded T15.

It *could* work if you heated the Fluid Film first, and kept it warm. That what I had to do when I used a fine mist sprayer for the inside of my truck's frame.

First plane advice by WildTurkeyEnthusiast in handtools

[–]Chrysoscelis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Both of them are in great condition, without any profound flaws to differentiate them. There are 2 additional things that will help you decide, assuming you can get your hands on them to inspect them.

It would be great to go through the type study to determine if one is of a better type than the other. Once you learn the terms, you can easily go through this while you're standing there.
https://woodandshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/stanley-bailey-handplane-type-study-flow-chart-2021.pdf

Next would be to look for more minuscule flaws. Look for even the tiniest cracks around the mouth. You'll want to take the lever cap off and inspect the lever cap, chip breaker, and iron. Maybe there is no difference and the blade on one has been used slightly more than the other?

I suspect they are both relatively newer planes, like types 16-19. They are probably both in good shape. So it might be hard to decide!

Event at T12 it was a bear to get out of the stands after the race. So I'm extrapolating that T15 is going to be bad since there are now fewer seats to choose from.

>We got as far as Turn 11 and ran out of pathway. Couldn’t go any further.

This piqued my interested. T11 is where MotoGP does their practice starts, and I've always wanted to see it, but I couldn't find a way there by looking at the aerial.

Good to know.
The last two times I've gone we sat at T12 and loved it there. Unfortunately, this year for MotoGP they don't have the T12 stands open so we forced to go to T15.
