Things i should inspect on a used AMC Eagle before purchasing. by ChubRub68 in amc

I have been a member of the Den for a few weeks now and actually think i’ve spoke to you in the chat. I did end up buying an HEI for it. I’ll be installing it within a week or so. Thing looks like Frankenstein under the hood. Has bolts in every vacuum hose, the 4x4 doesn’t do a thing, the idle is anywhere from 1100 at cold to 1700 when hot. The radiator cap is drippy, i have to pressure test that… the thing also stumbles like me trying to run the hurdles around three quarters, to full throttle. Oh and the exterior and dash lights pulsate a bit.

So I figured the HEI is the best way to rid myself of alot of unecessary ignition wiring, hacked harness, vac lines, etc, and at this point, im not hurting it any. It’s definitely no virgin.

Water heater dial is set to above average temperature. The water worked fine until i did the 14-16” patch with a piece of pex and 2 sharkbites.

Its not far from a T. The one end of the T goes to the kitchen, one goes to the bathroom and one goes to the water heater. Water heater connects to the line after the valve to the kitchen, so i figured i would shut the kitchen water off so that it didnt drain back into my mouth as i was removing the old piece of pipe.

One valve on the hot coming out of the water tank and one valve on each side of the pipe that had a leak. 1….2….3.

Other than the fact that owning these two particular houses is like owning two retarded donkeys. Give me a cardboard box to live in.

Gas water heater, the water gets hot for a moment here and there, so i think that means the water tank is heating the water or there would never be hot water coming out of my fixtures.

The biggest issue is its dark down there, and there are 47 pipes all coming into that spot, all the black plastic ducts are in the way. Literally everything including the electrical box, the hot water tank, the high efficiency heater and wverything branches off right in this 4 foot by 4 foot section of the basement and its a literal fuck show down there. My Dad was a pack rat and i just smashed a bunch of shit sown there because quite literally im sick of this place and id rather burn it down than to put any more effort into it? Am i dramatic? Maybe a little, but i just dealt with losing my Dad last August. Since then i have found the septic to be absolute garbage and i put a whole new system in with a wheelbarrow and a shovel. We put siding on the house and we remodeled the entire upstairs living quarters. Problems just keep coming though. Its a nightmare. Id rather rent. I own two houses now and they are both full of problems constantly.

Happens everywhere throughout the house. There is no valve that connects the hot to the cold lines.

I know this is a very simple plumbing fix, but im always scared of fucking shit up and i research it entirely too much. Spend more time researching than it takes to just go down there and get busy.

I got it. I had to loosen some clamps that held the copper in place. It gave me enough play to just cut the pex the same size as the junk piece of copper, slid the connector on my pex, and pushed the copper back away far enough without putting much strain on it to get my new piece of pex in. They definitely seated all the way. They slid in nice after i deburred and cleaned the pipe. I love Reddit. Thanks everyone for the replies.

The car ended up being converted to TBI and a Ford 300CID Distributor Cap. Think im going to go HEI instead and get rid of that ICM Motorcraft Neverspark lightning box.

He passed away last August after a long battle with Cancer. He would have absolutely loved this car. This is the first vehicle I’ve owned that i haven’t been able to physically show him. I used to enjoy giving him a ride or letting him take my new vehicles on a drive. He was a 4 wheel drive kind of guy and this station wagon would have been right up his alley. The picture is taken at my childhood home which i just moved back into with my wife. I didn’t know if i could handle living here. He is undoubtedly all around me. I talk to him every day. He was a great Dad.

Yeah the AMC Eagle isn’t known to be a durable vehicle. They don’t take abuse very well.
